Guys............................................... Han Rice Paddies are 60 wood and 30 build time. Reassess.2 points

I am starting to do this. I have also noticed some newer players such as LarsVanDijk, mebewell and sneakEP hosting games which allow both noobs and OPs. It's only been a few weeks and I saw a dozen of cosmic players rising to 1300-1400 level extremely quickly (even if their number can't catch up with their skills). Also it's not impossible to balance 1100 players if they are willing to learn. ALL OF YOU STARTED FROM 0, DON'T FORGET THE TIME WHEN YOU WERE SMASHED BY VERY EASY AI! It's often the case TG hosts swap out 'unknown players' for 'known players' who joins late, which shrinks the community smaller and smaller. Even old players coming back are discarded as 'unknowns' just because many TG hosts joined late A23 or A24. If Christmas, Rollo, Arkhipov, nagasushi etc come back, they will either get kicked or accused of being a smurf... sad Funniest thing ever, Boudica (one of the smurf persecutors), accused nagasushi of being a smurf xD...2 points

@Dakara I am talking about a serious problem and you tell me to stop whining?! This is not about myself anymore, too many other people i e. New players are getting harassed, and I think that is an unhealthy climate in the lobby which used to be a friendly place in A23. You might want to know there is a Zakara impostering you although we all know who he is. We have confirmed that he is a smurf because he admitted it and told us all of his previous accounts. Most people claimed that Zakara is your smurf and even wanted to report you to user1. If that did happen then you would have been banned without knowing why. So dakara you were lucky. I politely asked him for his true rating after 2 imba TGs, and he gave up his other accounts because he never had a rating. So in future TGs we consider him to be 1500 instead of 1700. That's the way to approach suspected smurfs, not straight up harassing then non-stop. If the crowd did go with their instinct, I don't know what would have happened to you.2 points

Part of the issue with archers is that they have a lot of micro potential, so their strength might feel different depending on how they are used. With Maurya or Kush, a few players are trying to mix in their army cavalry (jav or sword), they select the archers to manually target javeliners one by one while the cavalry should try to flank the enemy ranged units, therefore, in both cases, avoiding the melee units protecting them. Some also tries to spread archers over a long line to take advantage of the better range of archers, minimize overkills and do hit-and-run attacks. Using map obstacles (buildings water, mountains...) can also be useful. Balancing archers with javeliners will always be an unpleasant question. If you try to balance them assuming no micro, then a player with good micro will give the impression that archers are op, if you try to balance them assuming that both players have advanced micro skills, the archers will feel very unpleasant to any player who don't want to use too much micro. Expecting them to be well balanced from everyone perspective might be unrealistic. Having said that, I would agree that archers are struggling a bit too much currently, especially with pikemen. In any case, archers/javeliners balance should definitively be checked with the impact that the introduction of unit acceleration might have on the game.2 points

Guys, there are several things that people are "used to" that are changed every alpha. Also, should we not improve or fix things just because people are used to them being broken or poor? I think in this case, the major issue is actually that the portraits are simply switched, rather than completely changed. Simply switching them as I did does indeed cause unnecessary confusion.2 points

Yeah, it's pretty weird that some people are super vigilant about smurfs. They should give it a rest. The fact that some people are very upset about smurfs is probably a big motivation for the few smurfs who cause problems.2 points

@EmaczYou should really attach the crashlog.txt and crashlog.dmp files. (Wild guess: you're on a Windows laptop and some automated update changed your settings to the wrong GPU.)2 points

After a long time of hard work, I have the honor of being able to show you this great initiative which I am sure will give a new life to 0 A.D. and to the world of Real Time Strategy games. I present to you RTS Tournaments, a website expressly dedicated to creating competitions for RTS games, among which, of course, is our 0 A.D. RTS Tournaments was born thanks to the innate spirit of competition in this type of game and how it is wasted due to the fact that there is no decent organization that organizes game competitions as competitive as RTS. COMPETITIONS: RTS Tournaments will create various types of competitions (some more competitive than others). The first version of RTS Tournaments will feature the following competitions: -Weekly Cups: This type of competitions will be small tournaments (with no more than 16 players) with free registration. At first they will not have any prize. They will be small snacks to kill boredom! There will also be for teams! - Qualifying Cups: These types of competitions are more important! They will serve to classify you to high-level competitions. - Open Ranking: This competition is somewhat special. Once you register in it you will have to play two games a week until the end of the season. The top 3 ranked players will immediately qualify for the Grand Champions League (GCL). -Grand Champions League: In this competition the best players of the game will fight to prove who is the absolute champion of 0 A.D. It will be a league made up of 8 classified players. In this first season, the competitors will have to qualify by playing the GCL Qualifiers (8 in total), but from the first GCL the players will be classified as follows: The last four players Open ranked players + the winner of a single GCL Qualifier will be selected to compete in the GCL. (I thought about doing a team GCL, but I think more players are needed than those who currently play 0 A.D. so it is not ruled out in the future.) COMPETITIONS WITH MONETARY PRIZES: From RTS Tournaments we think that the existence of competitions with monetary prizes would be a great success, since this would attract the great sleeping players of the game as well as other titans from other RTS. a) FREE COMPETITIONS WITH A MONETARY PRIZE: It would be great to do a weekly competition like this, but for now we can't afford it. But without a doubt, we promise to do it when we have the necessary financial resources to do so. Right now RTS Tournaments only generates expenses, due to the fact that we have to pay for web hosting, domains, designs, etc. But when we have a stable economy we promise to do it! EVENTS: RTS Tournaments will organize various events for the community such as: - Challenges! Where a top player who wants to can spend an afternoon playing live annotated games on twitch against community players who request it through twitch chat. - Prizes for the best 1v1 player - Best tg player awards - etc. SOCIAL MEDIA: At RTS Tournaments we don't want to limit ourselves to being a mere competition portal, but rather we want to go one step further, which is why we have social networks like YouTube and Twitch where we will upload a large amount of quality content. We want to commit to uploading a daily video at least! We will also have twitter where we will be posting the latest news. -YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/RTSTournaments -Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/rtstournaments -Twitter: https://twitter.com/RTSTournaments BADGES AND TITLES: From RTS Tournaments we propose a system of qualifications which are awarded to players based on their skills and performance in competitions. Our proposal: LM (Lobby Master) Obtained by having a score of 2100 or higher in the 0 A.D. lobby. NM (National Master) Awarded for being among the top six players in the GCL in any of its seasons. IM (International Master) It is obtained by being among the first three players of the GCL in any of its seasons. GM (Grand Master) Obtained at a special event every 6 months. These badges would appear in front of your name in RTS Tournaments and probably in the 0 A.D. lobby itself. so that all players can recognize the skill of that player as well as motivate others to achieve it. EX: (LM)ValihrAnt (2372) These are our proposals but they can be modified to suit the community. FUTURE EVENTS: In case RTS Tournaments achieves its goals, we have great ideas in mind such as making a world championship by country or region. COMMUNITY ASSEMBLY: At RTS Tournaments we want the community to show us the path to follow, so every Monday we will upload a post so that, the community can propose changes within our website, modifications to some rules, new ideas for competitions, etc. Later we will upload a small newsletter where we will inform about the news about RTS Tournaments, the changes proposed by the community and the changes made, as well as some statistics that may be interesting for our users. DO YOU WANT TO BELONG TO RTS Tournaments?: We are currently looking for a person who wants to create content in English for our official YouTube and Twitch channels, so if you are interested, have a good microphone and feel like it, send me a private message through here to chat more in detail. We also want to have affiliated content creators, who if they wish, can upload videos to the official RTS Tournaments channel explaining strategies, balance changes, etc, so if you, as a youtuber from 0 A.D. would you like to upload videos from time to time to the official channel send me a private message. Finally, we are also looking for RTS Tournaments moderators to help me in the lobby to answer questions and resolve conflicts that may arise within the competitions. ECONOMICS OF RTS Tournaments: RTS Tournaments is an organization made by and for the community, for this reason we do not have funding of any kind beyond what I as a natural person am putting so that RTST can become a reality. RTS Tournaments will be financed in several ways: - Donations: Being a community project, at first, we will not have more funding than that given by the community itself, therefore all donations are appreciated, and will be used to improve the services of RTS Tournaments, in addition to allowing the existence of monetary prizes in competitions. - Social Networks: RTS Tournaments will upload quality content to social networks such as YouTube and Twitch. We currently have a channel with more than 7k subscribers on YouTube, so we think we can monetize that channel in order to generate at least 30 or 50 euros to use in prizes for competitions. While we receive donations, RTS Tournaments will make their expenses public so that all users can see how each penny is spent. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RTS TOURNAMENTS LINK: https://www.rtstournaments.com/ Without more to add, I hope you have loved this project and enjoy playing competitions of this wonderful game. =D - Stockfish ¡Lea el documento en español!: PRESENTACION RTS TOURNAMENTS ESPAÑOL (1).pdf1 point

LOL They copied that too. First I saw (a LONG time ago) spamming champs was boudica's old account. Merov, alekusu and others did the slinger spam. Borg did skiri squads in formation and fanatics too. Vercin's old account did mass archer cav, then liberty too. Mass camels were featured here by xfs and nigel used them a lot. Luzbel had some op combos: skirm cav+spear shield or slingers+blackcloaks. And many strategies they brought from other games and many get reinvented all the time.1 point

I haven’t played them. But I’m sure by the time I do they’ll be the same as every other civ. Perfect (lazy) balance1 point
-
The argument for spear and bows to be available in earlier phases is the lower tech requirement for a civ to produce those weapons. I'd equate p1 to stone age, p2 to copper age and p3 to bronze age roughly. The high number of warhorses in p1 of a typical 0ad army is quite off1 point

For the smaller farms and higher cost, we also need to consider the full cost per farming lady. We need 50 food for the woman, 20 wood for 1/5th of a farm and 15 wood 1/5th of a small house and there is thus 16 seconds build time. All of that adds to a cost of 50 food, 35 wood and 16 seconds of build time. For Han the cost are 50 food, 48.33 wood and 22.66 build time. Not only the wood cost, but also the build time each worker needs to do is increased. I don't think it gives a comfortable early economy. When other factions place 3 farms for 300 wood and 150 seconds build time and research the farming tech, the Han need to place 5 rice paddies for 500 wood and 250 seconds build time and thus lack the wood for the farming tech early on. If we ignore the ministers, this faction has similarities with Persians. Persians also get the 10% more pop and the Persian palace also gives resource tickle worth 3 population. Persians have a very strong lategame, but they start with archers/crossbows. Persians are not a good 1v1 and are below average. Ptolemies and Iberians are way better than the average faction. I don't expect Han in 1v1s to be more potent than Ptolemies or Iberians, unless these factions receive major nerfs.1 point

There are some players who are very arrogant and make people don't want to play 0AD, we should let new player in high level games also so that they can experience the real deal, there are a lot of player who let new player play and are ok to sacrifice balance in the process also. we need new players in 0AD so its advisable if old players let at least one or two new players in TGs with good players.1 point

This is probably true. It still doesn't make sense to me why people try to manipulate their rating in this way. The higher their rating goes, the more they're going to get upset about losing when a better player comes along.1 point

Some people just can't lose and they rely on knowing the dude behind the keyboard to predict their strategy and give themselves an advantage in balancing. If I just tell you I am a 1700 player, you have no idea how I will play, whether I will rush or boom or do some weird strategy. But if I tell you I am Reza, you know for 90% chance you will be rushed, or if I tell you I am metafondations then you know 95% chance you will be left alone to boom but be destroyed by a P3 push. Anonymity means you have to do scouting and more uncertainty, and some players don't like that. Furthermore, some people can't stand other players improving faster than them. So they come up with smurf accusations1 point

In addition, it is recommended to put the sword and shield hands of the Han army in the first stage instead of the second, like the Romans, because swordsmen are almost everywhere in Han society, and the army can easily recruit swordsmen, but using 戟(JI ) soldiers with weapons of equal length require special training. For the same reason crossbowmen should also be placed in the first stage, just like javelinmen and slingers of other factions. Archers and 戟手(Jishou) can be placed in the second stage, in our opinion, training these types of soldiers is more laborious.1 point

We can consider giving rice fields to the Mauryas after a little more research perhaps next alpha. Millet does look different from wheat. Will have to investigate how to make a Millet Field look nice in the game. I don't think it was trying to play up a stereotype, but instead attempting to make something unique.1 point

The watchtowers in the Han Dynasty were not independent defensive buildings, but constituted a line and net-like warning and warning system, so there was one a few miles apart. This watchtower was solid, so there were no stairs, but rope ladders were used to go up and down. The watchtower is in a yard, protected by a wall, and there are several houses. Once the enemy is found, the soldiers will light the wolf smoke on the stone platform outside the yard. This early warning system continued until the Ming Dynasty.1 point

In fact, the rice fields should be handed over to the Indians, who more widely depend on rice as their staple food. If you wish to give China a unique crop, we would prefer millet (粟Su), which was the staple food in China until the Tang Dynasty. We don't want other countries' understanding of our staple food to stay on the stereotype of modern times, after all, this is the Han Dynasty and not the 19th century.1 point

Yeah, I can only agree. Pretty new to the game, some days ago mr.michael (or a similar nick) accused me of being a smurf in the lobby of a TG. After that, he accused me of being a noob and said that was not going to play with me. I felt like Schrodinger's cat: a smurf and a noob at the same time. Some people are completely out of their mind, and for a new player this is not a friendly environment where to learn to play and have fun. Unfortunately a real-time moderation of the lobbies seems to be necessary.1 point

Can we create a sub forum for implemented and planned features in a sub forum under gameplay discussion? To better consolidate and organize discussions and feature adjustments Example: Sub forum: Implemented feature ===[ IMPLEMENTED ]=== Barracks Garrisoning Experience Trickle Sub forum: Planned feature ===[ PLANNED ]=== (Name of planned feature) Sub forum: Suggested feature ===[ SUGGESTED ]=== (Name of planned feature) Then move around topics which are adapted to be planned from suggested then with planned moving to implemented as features get commited.1 point

DE features nudity IIRC. Originally Mauryas' maiden were topless. When it comes to mods it's the responsibility of the authors to decide their audience. I would go for a safe approach though, with straps of some kind.1 point

@Stockfish I applaud the effort, it's definitely interesting. I'd have to ask, though - how did you end up with a channel with 7000+ subscribers on the back of having no content?1 point

true but there's balance breaking changes that need svn to be tested, like acceleration. that's the point of my proposal.1 point

I don't know. In Alpha 24 archers made the same amount of damage but they have been the OP ranged unit. So if we buff them again they might be suddenly OP again. And cavalry archers are not useless. I've already seen successful rushes with elephant archers. When they reach rank 3 they are very tanky. Maurya has a special upgrade which makes sword units stronger. So you can try to counter javelineers with sword cavalry, and you can use sword infantry against spearmen.0 points
