  1. This whole discussion is replete with logical inconsistencies and dilettante historian cherry picking. If team bonuses aren’t meant to be an actual bonus then they should be eliminated. But I doubt anyone wants to eliminate features. It is asinine to throw a fit over the use of a word and not offer any suggestions when that word could be easily replaced with the word “colonizing” or any number of other options. Please move the discussion forward with a real suggestion or alternative: suggesting Athens should have a useless team bonus while other civs have helpful team bonuses isn’t a suggestion for improvement. This entire thread has been thrown askew because one person, who said they barely play the game, said they didn’t like the use of one word in one portion of one proposal. We can do better than this.

  2. It's not the bug, search is a resource consuming operation. Reducing the delay to 1 second for all doesn't sound good. In theory we could reduce to 1 second (or 2 seconds) only for registered users without posting limits. @implodedok

  3. I have been berated by this player once and it kept me from playing the game for months afterwards. His remarks were extremely sexist in nature and just generally appalling. I wish there were a way to keep people like this from playing the game because I genuinely don't like being in the same space as him.

  4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6tRpIseYCA GODS WILL RETURN!!! My favorite RTS game is back. What is your opinion for not using the traditional "DEFINITIVE EDITION (DE)" version? Detail that appears only 3 civilizations in the trailer, Greeks, Nordics and Egyptians, Will Atlantis be kept out at launch? We don't have much information yet, just that it has beautiful graphics and updated gameplay.

  5. Today I had a very unpleasant experience in a game. A player named harmony insulted me for the whole game just because I played bad. They went as far as stating they have had a *** intercourse with my mother and other racist offences (really?? only because we were losing a non-competitive game on a free-to-play videogame run by volunteers?). Now, I don't really care about this kind of childish attitude. I usually play to relax after work. But I thought that reporting such toxic behavior would help other players avoid wasting their time with this frustrated person. PS: so far I didn't have had (luckly!) many experiences like this on 0ad. I think that overall players like the one above are a minority in our community. Which is full of passionate and fair people . Update: Added the different account names of player harmony to the title

  6. I don't agree that any team bonus should be very powerful. They should just be sweeteners. The combination of team bonuses, civ bonuses, and rosters, playstyles, etc. should make civs play well together.

  7. I think Civ Bonus 1: Democracy Civic Center -10% training time and -20% research time for each passing phase. Civ Bonus 2: Silver Mines of Laureion Miners +20% metal mining rate for each passing phase. Note: This can function as a soft team bonus, since the Athenian player will have excess metal they can tribute to allies. Team Bonus: Delian League Allied Docks and Warships -20% build time and cost. If you look at other games, team bonuses are super targeted and aren't meant as game-changers. Just nice to have.

  8. Lol, I don't see the same amount of hysterical renunciation of the ptolemies, romans, iberians, or macedonian team bonuses, which have about the same degree of historical inspiration for their team bonuses.

  9. Democracy in Athens only had influence over the Greek states that were also in the commune-state stage, because those states didn't even have a solid monarchy and chose between oligarchs, aristocracy and democracy, but for states that had entered the kingdom stage There will be no impact. The Macedonian, Seleucid, and Ptolemaic kingdoms, who are also Greeks, will only regard Athens' democracy as an immature and outdated system, so it is difficult for me to imagine what team rewards can be brought by Athens' democracy.

  10. For a good layman's read on Athens during this period I would point out Lords of the Sea: The Epic Story of the Athenian Navy and the Birth of Democracy by John R. Hale. It isn't the end all be all of Athenian history for sure, but in terms of something pertinent to finding a team bonus for a game like this it would be valuable. If a few people want me to I can review the book again and some other sources and make suggestions. Admittedly I only have a BA in History with a focus on the Athenian navy and Alexander the Great's campaigns (with an emphasis on logistics), but if it is useful just let me know.

  12. Thanks for the advices, but I really don't want to pay back them (although at a certain point in that game I just ordered all my units to circle around their CC.. which triggered them even more and that was funny ). The kind of offences they use are something like a middle-school bully could say. So nothing that could honestly hurt me at my age My problems with being insulted the whole game are: If I am constantly pinged with insults I lose focus on the game and I play worse. Even if I do not feel offended, the game experience becomes unpleasant. Again, I usually play 0ad to relax after work. So playing in this condition is just a waste of time for me. I don't want to spend my free time with socially incapable kids. So, sorry, if it happens that I am playing one of your TG and one player start to talk to me with such level of aggression, I would just either quit the game before the end or start playing not seriously. I try always to play at my best and not quit in advance because I respect other players and their time regardless of their skill level. But thrash talking is one exception to this rule. There are people that are fine or don't care playing with players that lack even the minimum amount of social skill. I cannot. And I think there are other players like me that would prefer to avoid playing with them. Therefore, as @Norse_Harold has said, I think this thread could be useful to ban harmony/Shyft_sierra from non-toxic games and have decentralized moderation. So if this decentralized ban is applied I (and hopefully the majority of other players) could enjoy 0ad game more. The only reason I can think this person should be stopped is that new or sensitive players could quit playing 0ad. But this is more a problem of the whole (developers, moderators and players) community than mine.

  13. There are lot of ways you can pay back this dude, make as much army as you can and rams and resign near his cc. send all you resources to some one who is border with him or fighting this dude etc. believe me this guy will feel a lot irritated after this and he will start talking BS to you take screenshots and send that to devs.

  16. If you want your mod to be available in the 0 A.D. mod downloader, you need to follow these steps. 1) Prepare your mod as explained in the Modding Guide. You should end up with a .zip file. If you created a .pyromod file, copy it and rename the copy to modname.zip so it can be uploaded on mod.io. 2) Sign up or login on mod.io. Go to Mods > Add Mod, and specify 0 A.D. in the field Game. Add all the information you want to make available for visitors. Complete the submission steps until your mod is shown as waiting for moderator approval. 3) When you are ready, send me a PM here on the forums, or an email. I will get the mod from mod.io, test it and take a look at its code. When I have checked the mod is not dangerous, I will sign the file. I will answer the PM/email with the signature. I can also report bugs in the mod, and mistakes you may have made when uploading the file on mod.io. I try to consistently dedicate Wednesday afternoons to mod signing. Important Notice: Wildfire Games signs mods in order to mitigate the attacks that can be conducted against file repositories and the clients that download from them. Signing a file does not imply that the mod is official, nor that Wildfire Games participated in its creation in any way. It does not mean that it is exempt of bugs or oversights either. The only guarantee signing brings is that the file you are downloading is exactly the one that the signatory tested. 4) I will put the signature in the metadata of the file on mod.io, then make the mod live. Right after this is done, your mod will appear in the mod downloader! Happy modding

  17. Today i had very unplesant experience in a game. A player named DoctorOrgans insulted me for the whole game just because I'm simply better player. He sees only 1 viable strategy and it is "follow me", "do what i say".. If you simply ignoring this toxic player he starts calling you "idiot" and other bad words. This is not first time but many many times. How this can be resolved? Am I the only player person who experienced such low IQ behaviour?

  22. Team rewards will not be the first advantage you consider. The design of a faction should be such that even if there is no team reward or the effect of the team reward you do not like, it will not affect your choice to play this faction. This does not mean that the actual effect of team rewards is weak, but its impact on player choice should not be significant compared to civilization rewards, unique buildings/units/technologies.

  23. This is a great exaggeration and does not reflect how civs are chosen in real life team games. There are team bonuses that are more powerful than others, but very frequently players pick a civ such as Persians despite their lack of a team bonus. There is also more civ diversification when different combinations of civs can lead to alternative playstyles, because of interaction between civ specific bonuses and team bonuses. -15% ship construction time is not an actionable bonus since there is nothing a player can do to take better advantage of the bonus. Reduced cc upgrades cost and time is a VERY actionable bonus because a player can decide which phase to prioritize and it opens up an endless box of new playstyles. I think team bonuses are great because they can form part of the strategy of the team game. A team game is not 4 simultaneous 1v1s, and people pick their civs not just for their own interests. @wowgetoffyourcellphone other games such as AoE2 have much less noticeable civ bonuses than team bonuses, but also its worth recognizing that there is much more gameplay depth in 1v1s than TGs in AoE2 and that this is not the case in 0ad.

  24. The problem with a team naval-specific bonus is that in order for it to be useful it will need to be powerful (on par with iberians or gauls or ptol bonuses). If Athens has a strong naval team bonus, then on naval maps each team will need one Athens player, which will negate the effect of the bonus (if everyone always has it).

  25. Wait what, cheats can be allowed in rated matches? Wouldn't make sense to me.
    1 point
  26. Cheats are allowed for this game. If you look into the metadata.json file you attached you can see: "cheatsEnabled":true You can also notice from the commands.txt file you attached: cmd 1 {"type":"cheat","action":"addresource","text":"wood","player":1,"parameter":1000,"selected":[]} which confirms that your opponent used cheatcodes. Double-check game settings before starting a game, especially if rated. ;)

  27. That should work, cause i personally don't like to wait 20 seconds on every search ( especially when there's no results for your search query, waited 20 secs - search another one after 20 secs no results - wait 20 secs )

  28. Thanks for the heads up! Most of the issues you mentioned is well aware of and noted. The security button and some functionalities are not working so far , and also you might see an error saying defbot.py does not exists, you can totally ignore the error. Some files were excluded but a new update will be pushed soon which should cover all the issues. ATM, hope you enjoy

  29. Instead of praising that Athens reached democracy, we should focus on what they achieved (under democracy). So practical examples on how democracy benefited Athens would be welcome.

  31. Hi I installed this mod via "mods selection", it change a lot of thing in the lobby etc, but specific sub menu option for godeye are missing from the "option" main menu. I'm having a message error as if my "option.json" doesn't exist I went to my mod file and it is there inside a ziped filed. It's like if the pathway to find the file is wrong anyhow?. Unfortunately i can't make screenshot while i'm in the lobby, it freeze my computer. Anyway it seems that those options are still available from other sub menu..... Also lot of things seems to not work : -going strait to the lobby, -seeing techs from resume - auto giving resources to ally ... even if i clicked on those options and they'r still clicked after quitting and rejoining the game. Thank for what you've done so far!

  34. Thanks for posting this info. It helps to inform the player base so that a decentralized justice system can be effective. According to user1, lobby moderators aren't responsible for moderating player conduct within the game. The "jurisdiction" of a lobby moderator is public lobby messages, user names, and game room names. The in-game conduct needs to be moderated by the game host and the players in the game. My recommendation is for more hosters to establish rules for their games, and for more players to join such games. Here is a forum thread with my advice about how to choose and enforce rules for the "pro" or "OP" team games. In addition, I would like to see lobby bans become more effective, and when lobby bans are effective then in-game bans are effective. We need a C++ software developer to volunteer to help with that.

  35. In a related issue: @Langbart, how do you define "not outdated"? I am currently in the process of putting all the civilization database (those with Civ: prefix) back to current alpha standards. Starting with the Athenians, of course.

  37. Interesting, I encountered this player earlier and he was nice to me, but I only played one and probably did not catch on to his behavior tendencies. I would say Shyft_sierra and his smurf accounts rank as number 1 on toxicity scale. He makes JC look like an angel. It seems most people let Shyft sierra play despite his level of toxicity, but I would support hosts that ban him from their games.

  38. There are indeed a few such players. Unfortunately there is no way how to ask lobby moderator to punish such player. Either they will ask you for thousands of evidence, and even if you provided it (but who makes screenshots in game right?) they tell you hosted game is in full control of person who host. Also there is no send flowers to such person in-game so in fact no single way of defense. The worst part is other players won't care much, they simply want play fast, not their problem or just ignore him. With the time tere will be no enough players so you either doomed to not play or accept such toxic players. Once I made a mod for host of the game, to be able to ban permanently such person, but reaction here was even worse. They blamed me I'm bad person. There is no solution to stupidity other then just leave this game. Nobody will listen us. See result 1 month later or 1 year later.. so we write such text here just at least feel some stress reliev.

  39. Iphicrates is a sitting duck. He can't hide behind the slingers and boost everyone like all the other heroes he has to stay in javelin attack range or the army doesn't get any benefit. The moment you direct him independently (to flee, for example) the whole army loses the benefit unlike all other heroes. His formation aura needs to be stronger than other auras where the heroes can hide behind the entire army.

  40. Hey everyone, I am writing this post to let you know I will become mostly unavailable in the three coming weeks starting Tuesday. "All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to us." It's an opportunity for me to regain some of the energy to keep working on this project and to rest in general. I'll be at the open source experience in November in Paris and at the CDL in Toulouse so they will be my only 0ad-related tasks Social Media might be a bit silent too for a while. If you see people having issues there, don't hesitate to help/direct them to the forums. I count on everyone of you to help make A27 a success and to be nice when I'm gone, and I hope to see you all soon. See you soon folks,
