  1. Unfortunately, not all matches have been played this week. I find it unlikely the match between Dakara and Stockfish will be played even with a deadline extension. Since Dakara showed more activity on the forum and the lobby, I will give him the win by forfeit. Thus we can start the 2nd round (semifinals) this week! The deadline is at Sunday 23, 23:59 UTC. The matches are: ValihrAnt (2322) vs Dakara (1772) Feldfeld (2169) vs Edwarf (1861) @ValihrAnt@Dakara@Edwarf

  3. Again we are spinning in infinite circles. Why can't we find a way to balance phase 1 swords instead of making everything the same again? What I mean is that we must also keep the focus on diversification, if not, it will always be an alpha for changes and another for reversing the changes.

  4. SPI does work with a law firm but I don't know if they will help us in a timely fashion. (My experience has not been good in this respect.) I'm not sure I would handle this using legal means anyway. I would just write Steam and ask to take it down, and see what they say. I doubt that Valve would want to keep the game on their platform against the creators' wishes. That would be an unnecessary legal and PR risk on their side.

  5. Spectators shouldn't be allowed in tournament matches, and I think they also shouldn't be allowed in rated 1v1s. At a minimum there is a big risk of "ghosting", ie. sharing information with a player that shouldn't be shared. At a maximum there is a risk of disruption of the game through network attack (DoS or DDoS) in order to benefit a certain player. Unlike with gladiator arenas of ancient Rome, you can be a spectator afterward by watching the replays.

Credits This mod is based on modifications to the Feldfeld Mod but has been stripped down into a lightweight version. It utilizes public mod library files instead of customized versions of Feldmap to ensure compatibility. Partial customization is implemented directly in the map generation script to prevent out-of-sync (OOS) errors. 8. You both have good points. For the DDOS situation, I don't want to elaborate too much to give any ideas but I don't think announcing the game beforehand would change much. For cheating by sharing information, this is of course something that should be taken seriously. Many of the benefits obtained through this kind of cheating could also be from another kind of cheating, that doesn't require a third party, but is difficult to perform. If we compare with big chess websites, games are public and nothing prevent a player to give advices to another I guess, also if not abused, and if done properly, cheating with engines is possible without being detected. Of course it's not exactly the same situation but the point being, if someone is motivated enough he will find a way I guess, so is it worth it to trade off the community benefits a live tournament game could bring for less convenience for the potential cheater? That's a good question and if players have concerns they can write in this thread or message me. Personally I would still prefer to go for live games. For comparison, AoE2 streams games with a delay, so pure live games is an impossibility, but the stakes are much larger there (and they have more programmatic capabilities, also being closed source is an advantage to this regard it looks like). If even one tournament game gets DDOSed, it will be detected and there will be a clear precedent. So measures could be taken at that moment. It is much easier to avoid DDOS from these 1v1s than from the regular TGs. We cannot say the same of cheating which could be very hard to detect. I will note again that the competitive aspect was not the first objective of this tournament, but well it's still a tournament. As things stand, I will give players freedom over if they want to announce it, personally I will ask my opponents if they want to. Matches that get played on-the-fly in lobby without getting scheduled of course can't be announced

  9. Yesterday, user1 informed me that the leaked accounts are banned. I think that they have been banned for a while, but yesterday is when I was informed of it. As for why it took so long for the accounts to be banned, it was necessary to update the Terms of Use to forbid account sharing and disclosing passwords. Then it was necessary for the new ToU to take effect, which happened when alpha 26 was released. Clause 1b is the new clause that forbids account sharing and disclosing passwords.

Since there was no vanilla civs in Mill0ad I had my work cut out playing byzantines with no heroes. It was a big plus having so many interesting mods ready to go with A26.

  20. IIRC, 0 A.D cannot be legally released on steam as of now (Valve requires some copyright waivers that we cannot give due to the lack of a CLA). So they did do something wrong, and we should probably contact Valve as we have like 2 decades of contributors who have not agreed to said waivers.

  22. if theres anyone who already knows this stuff well and can easily make such simple adjustments for me, we can work together and make a totally fixed/improved 0ad mod prob within a day or 2 tops since it takes such minimal effort for me to figure out proper balance for functional, viable but not op options and it would be equally as easy for someone well versed in the programming aspects to simply adjust the values. Im thinking building costs, unit trantime, unit cost, etc. as well as if possible, mapgen rate of metal/stone/extras or if possible, and i assume this is more of a stretch make a fair balanaced maps mod, better than a25 one which had many issues with variability such as 400 foods not being balanced, hunts varying in distance making 1 side get half the walktime often resulting in basically half the value, etc i also would really like to add, if possible, removed buildings, or buildings that have already been designed/have existed in the code, but never used,(i have seen some in some special maps maybe a year or 2 ago like strange wood structures) im sure i could make use of/bring into the game with balance a lot of such buildings/ideas. specifically, id bring back stoas.

  23. My ideas: Archers should be good against unarmored units and slingers against armored ones; do this by reducing crush armor on armored units especially, add more crush damage on slingers, (so may need to increase crush armor on buildings and hard counters for siege). Archers should have a little more attack. Javelineers should counter archers and jav cavalry. I'd add armor, especially pierce, and reduce attack rate. Elephants and chariots should cause AoE damage. I think melee units are mostly good now, but I'd like to add an axeman unit with higher damage and lower armor; mainly good against siege.

  24. What about announcing the dates of the matches here, so spectators can join?

  25. I am wondering if the correct move is to nerf swordcav's pierce armor a little. They shouldn't be able to tank fire from the CC so easily as spear cavalry, right? I think with this change, p1 swordcav will be pretty well balanced (not significantly better than a skirmcav rush). My only concern would be sword cavalry's effectiveness later in the game. (unit specific upgrades again here could fix the latter issue)

  28. we can play Team Games, I made very few changes like changing the grass texture and changed the sun color and elevation and rotation and nothing more, I think using feldmap we can play team games also it is only used for 1v1, because few people know how to install feldmap. I wanted to make the map more darker like in the evening but not sure others will be interested. this mod is part of my learning process, will try to include more changes if others suggest it.

  29. So far I haven't made any nerfs for Han, but I can certainly see the issues you mention @hamdich. In addition, I think crossbows are a little bit overtuned, they probably need at least slower prepare time. I agree it is difficult to balance sword cavalry in p1, it may be the best choice to move them out of p1. As for acceleration and spear cavalry, I see the concern about spear cavalry having a hard time chasing. The first thing to note is that spear cavalry have 2 components that make chasing difficult: 1) stopping to attack and having to accelerate and 2) prepare time. Prepare time is a massive contributor because the spear cavalry must be stationary during prepare time. I actually have what I think is a nice solution to this, if people are interested. among my list of "unit specific upgrades" (see attached discussion) are 2 upgrades for spear cavalry: 1) Horse Racing: increased movement speed and much higher acceleration (phase 2) 2) Lancing tactics: increased pierce damage and decreased smaller prepare time. after testing, these changes made spear cavalry much more effective when chasing enemy cavalry, and the distinction is that these upgrades are unique to spear cavalry, so the upgrades act to differentiate spear cav nicely. I have not yet made a merge request for these upgrades (https://gitlab.com/real_tabasco_sauce/0-a-d-community-mod-unit-specific-upgrades/-/tree/unit_upgrades), but I think they should be added to the community mod after balance changes and team bonus changes.

  32. Reception to my previous post was overwhelming (for good reason). AoE devs contacted me for civ ideas but I reminded them that I am committed to 0ad I have decided to present a new civ idea, based on the extensive research I did over the last few months (I have a degree in research, in case you've forgotten) Civ Name: Morbius 2 This civ is slightly out of this game's rule book (500BC to 1BC, this civ existed between 600BC and 501BC), so it might not be added, but hey, at least you can learn a little about history or make a mod out of it. This civ only had men (that is why they died out after 99 years as they couldn't reproduce, and lifespan of a normal man is 99). Hence, you cannot forage or farm properly, but you can cut trees and mine metal/stone at 500% efficiency (They loved getting stoned, Historically). Also, this civ should have a unique unit named Unique Man who is just like a regular citizen solider except he is unique (in some way, maybe we can have @elexis0addev come up with some ideas?) Hope this civ sees the light of day Cheers! facts

  34. Those were not copyrighted maybe we should ask SPI to register them. Technically they did nothing wrong in the sense that the license was respected and attribution was given. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do need to get in touch with them first. Cause we sure as hell ain't releasing anything on the 23rd of December. Also a steam presence has some heavy consequences on the lobby, with regards to server load and moderation. And finally I have no idea what they did with the game.

  35. Thanks for reporting this. It's definitely against the Terms of Use. If it happens often then we can request a temp ban. Just one room name with profanity is currently being punished with a kick from the lobby, which has the additional effect of de-listing the game. And, when a game is de-listed then players can't rejoin in case they're disconnected at some point. In some cases I may issue a warning to the game hoster instead of an immediate kick from the lobby. When this happens in the future, and hopefully not from Aslan., , if I'm online then please ping me or seeh in the lobby and/or IRC, and I'll take action as soon as possible. If I'm not online then try pinging user1, and if he doesn't reply then post evidence on the forum.

  36. After much research (I have a degree in research) and interviews with history professors I think I have come up with an idea for a civ. The Morbius civ. This civ defaults at 10000 of every resource (historically, this was a very rich civ). However, to balance it, it only has one type of unit called Morbius which requires -10/-10/-10/-10 resources to train and takes -5 minutes (I'll work on a solution for non-linear time). I don't think there's a feature in the engine for such gameplay (@elexis3 can you check) so maybe keep this for the future. I am thinking alpha 100, which is only halfway through in 0ad's full release roadmap. @stan0adArtist, I attached a picture of morbius for reference Let me know what you guys think cheers! facts

  38. Example of influence of the Celtic mercenaries in the Illyrian art, right in Gostilj (Srebrenica): The Getae were a threat before the Gallic invasion, as seen by the Getic wars with Lysimachus. After that, it seems to me they were mainly busy in the Northern coast of the Black Sea with the Scythians, the Sarmatians, the Bastarnae and the Scirii. Seems correct. As a general rule, the Illyrians in the south close to their homeland got heavily influenced by the Greeks and the Macedonians. In the North, the Iapodes and Liburnians got mixed and influenced by the Venetian and Hallstatt cultures. Although for the language, I cannot help at all.

  39. Bardylis is not celtic. The Celtic influence in the Balkan was mostly on the east with the kingdom of Tylis and the Triballi and on the north with the Scordisci. The Dardanians were beaten but not that much Celticized, most of the Celticized Illyrians and Thracians joined the Scordisci and the Triballi. But it is true that it changed the warfare in the area for a long time, as seen by the Celtic - like weapons used by the Getae and Dacians.

  43. I think the best should be to create a common architecture for the Illyrians and the Thracians, mixing Greek and Iron Age traditions. I will see to do a summary of the Thracians for the vanilla as a proposal. @Lion.Kanzen Beware of something about the Illyrians, there are a lot of BS around this cultural group. This is because the Balkans are still very nationalists and the war between the Serbians and the Albanians is not that old. Typically this map is the kind of excessive extension commonly seen on the Illyrians. The Pannonians are not Illyrians, the Veneti neither. The Messapians connection is indeed real but it is probably old (end of the Bronze Age), it could justify some mercenaries and regional units however.

  44. I could not find data on Scodra, since what I have read described the Southern Illyrrians as Hellenized and the Northern ones Celticized, I assumed that it was Hellenized since Scodra was in the South just atop the Epirote territory. Would be cool to see a Celticized faction with a hoplite champion though, if we switch it to Gallic structure set.

  47. Italic Illyrians. MESSAPIANS. this illustration can be some early, you noticed by their arcaic style. PICENTES ---Non Italic origin----- Our Timeframe Italy. Core of Illyrians (Delmetae, Daorsi, Ardiaei, Breuci) With the term Illyrians are defined all that tribes that share an authentic language and culture, coming from the East Hallstatt Cultural Facies and living in the area of modern ex-Yugoslavija and Albania. Even if the different Illyrian tribes were quite different one another, being somehow celticized in the north and hellenized in the south, Classical writers identified a common root for all of them, and common habits (for example, the use of tattoo). Illyrians were also famed pirates, and their ships, Lembos, Pristis and Libyrnis, were well known for being very fast and highly maneuverable, and were even copied by more civilized nations like Makedonia. Now I can see why they link with Piceans or Picenes... This are Illyrian houses?
