Hey, does it make sense to have outpost make a warning sound once enemies are in the range of it? In this way, outpost has a valuable use.3 points

If your farmers are close enough they of course find the fruit trees after exhausting a berry patch with no prompting. Seriously do we really need more hand holding than hovering your cursor over a tree to see if its wood or food? Since fruit trees are usually solitary, does anyone waste time setting up a wood line next to one?3 points

Or there could be a 2 minute cool down between notifications. If no units within range for 2 minutes, then it resets and will play the notification the next time.3 points

Hi! I'm Daniel, current president of the student association of GUL UC3M (gul.es, sorry, we don't have an english version) an association focused on the promotion of open-source software. TL;DR: We are going to organise a videogame open-source event in late April (jamon.gul.es) and we would love to have someone talking and sharing about 0 A.D. - Long version In 2018 we organised a game-jam called GUL Jamón (jamon.gul.es/2018) with only open-source software. It was only not a game-jam but also a week of training in Pygame and Godot. The event was quite a success and we want to repeat this year but given it a little twist focusing on talks rather than a game-jam due to the pandemic. This new edition will be called "GUL Jamón - Charleta Edition" which will be something like "GUL Jamón - Small Talk Edition". This edition is planned to be on 19-21 of April, between 15:00-19:00 (GMT+1). It will be completely online and free for everyone. I am creating this post to look for someone willing to participate in the event, and give a talk/workshop about 0 A.D. Thanks for your time! PS: Ideally I would love if the speaker know spanish because we try to promote all our content in spanish, as in english there is resources for almost everything but not in spanish. However it won't be an impediment because we will be in an university environment so everyone should know english.2 points

Hello everyone. I hope you're having a fine day. I have a simple question to begin with. Is anyone interested in helping to moderate the lobby chat? If we have enough lobby helpers maybe we can actually have someone available 24/7.2 points

@LetswaveaBook - thanks dude, just got in from work - was about to circulate the video but found you've already done it2 points

It is a 1v1 with Macedonians vs. Seleucids: Which faction do you think has the advantage? Casted by @mysticjim If we want to understand balancing, I think we should also discuss fair matches (instead of 60 firecav agains 80 CS infantry).2 points

Here's a perfect sound: counter-strike-jingle-cs-radio-enemy-spotted.mp3 In seriousness, maybe a single trumpet note or something?2 points

If you are bothered by the way fruit plants look, then you should go to settings and ideally there would be an option "Yeka Fruit". That option would change to visuals of fruit plants to the equivalent of yekaterina's chickens. I think that is a fair solution to the problem.2 points

What about testing the A26 SVN this saturday at 6 pm CET?2 points

Wei Qing hero is hyper OP. Must nerf him a bit. -10 health per second... put him with a few champ cavs and charge into enemy army , then all die in 10 seconds...2 points

Rather than a sound, a ping on the minimap (or both) might be better in case someone has several outposts.2 points

Oh! The Macedonian market is still exploitable due to their barter bonus.1 point

I think it strongly depends on the map's per player population, size of map, and when players overall attack. If it's a small map, irrelevant of population, you're better off with Mace attacking early with mercenaries. If it's a large map and there's a lot of travel, and higher population, you're better off being Seleucids. If you're a player who attacks early, it's probably better to play Mace but not on large maps or with large per player populations - unless you win the RNG lottery for metal.1 point

I was thinking a rather innocuous sound effect. Also, with a cooldown time between notifications it would be a nice little feature. A good example of it is in Age of Empire III when the enemy is first sighted by your Explorer.1 point

What about adding fallen fruits and decals? Or adding fruit meshes as props?1 point

I just had to sign in and give your comment a like. Couldn't have said it better myself.1 point

sounds unnecessarily harsh and generalized. but I agree that having a clear distinction between trees=wood and berries=food does make it easier to understand. The question is if we should copy that or if there is another way to make the food trees visually more distinct? something like this for example. But tbh, I wouldn't mind switching to just berries for food. We can still keep the models for the trees, only that they would only supply wood then.1 point

yeah, clearly they are more interested in game accessibility than in botanics. in reality there is a whole lot of trees that give edible fruits and can also be cut down for wood, figs for instance give a high quality wood, but in 0AD can only be exploited for food. at AoE they decided to have food and wood gathering separated in order to simplify game mechanics, and they had food gathering limited to berry bushes because they are easier to render in a clearly different way. this is mindful designing. something 0AD never bothered about.1 point

Maybe a very soft sound which is not disturbing. You don't want that your enemy is harassing you by annoying your outposts, right? The rather stupid attack-sound would be a no-go1 point

They have no interest in botanic? There were some nice improvements in the art to make berries bushes and fishes spots more visible, even with low graphic settings. Berries bushes on Sudanian savanna are still a bit hard to find too. In many cases, the minimap remain probably the most effective way to proceed. Simply because berries can be hidden behind a forest or berries are barely visible on the explored map for example. This specific case is however quite interesting since it provide an example in which the minimap could fail. The extra green dots next to the civic center could be confused with the starting berries. Not sure if something new to help players find what they are searching for could be useful. I vaguely remember a post talking about having different icons around selected champions/CS, I am wondering if applying the same to trees would help. Then maybe defining a "select all berries" shortcut to highlight them ? P.S.: In SVN, these trees would be more likely hidden on the minimap by the big civic center icon. Mines icons can also hide important information too. Thanks for letting that feature as an option! (I am looking forward to see if the big icons can be exploited for sneaky attack ).1 point

there is a reason AoE only has fruits on bushes.1 point

Banana trees seem very obviously distinct as well. I will grant you the Fig and Apple trees though. Perhaps the Fig trees should be removed and the Apple trees remodeled.1 point

Doesn't have anything to do with map generation, so out of scope for the map script. The reasoning presented back then was that square maps look more unnatural, sharp corners provide an unfair advantage, there is unequal distribution of area and they are around 27% larger than the equivalent circular map. To be honest, I don't really care and I highly doubt the original proposer cares either.1 point

Then 60 seconds or so. The cool down could gradually get longer and longer until by minute 20 it no longer works. (all of this would be invisible to the player).1 point

For example, if you have 10 barracks selected, but you only have enough money to build 8 spearman, you click the icon to queue them up (even though it says 10), and 8 barracks will queue up 1 unit each. Another example.. 30 houses selected, but only enough to produce 10 women; click the icon and 10 women will be produced.1 point

I *think* that in the 0-8 min mark if the outpost would make a sound (maybe different for cav/infantry) each time they are spotted it would make them have interesting utility for counter-raids. After 8 mins sounds could be muted?1 point

Looks fun! How would the teams be arranged on this map? I would hate to be sandwiched in the middle down there.1 point
