Hi everybody! After all these excellent updates from the various artists, inside this game community, maybe it's time for a task force to update the game maps? Maybe also to review the various old maps and.. eliminate some of them?! I believe that the most recent quality parameter for maps is higher than the parameter adopted during the game development primordium.4 points

I almost did that also, but decided that it would confuse people, so I didn't. The reason I considered doing that was because I wouldn't mind a siege workshop in town phase as long as most powerful siege weapons were not available until city phase. I wouldn't want powerful siege weapons like our current battering rams available in town phase, but would be OK with the simple carried log battering ram in town phase. There was no way to properly express this with the current poll options. [Edit] This was basically covered in the @wowgetoffyourcellphone post.2 points

Could I request banana and mango trees? Mangifera indica Musa balbisiana Also, a variation that is twice the size and height of the current mangrove tree could be possible. I commute daily to the University I am enrolled in and mangroves are a common sight in my daily trip. Mangroves could grow enormously that you could mistake them for being island themselves. Twice the size (height and circumference) of the current one is the largest that I could estimate based on what I see daily.2 points

Greetings! As some of you might have noticed development has nearly come to a halt a while ago. This was not only caused by issues around the initial attempt at releasing Alpha 23, but also regarding how development was done, and a certain number of internal conflicts. A few people were not quite happy with where the development was going, or how the team "interacted" with each other. A long time ago the team at least had each other's backs in cases of conflict. Apparently this ceased to be the case a while ago. You might now wonder why this sad story above is the start of this communication. Well, some of us decided that we were not happy with this, and after each and every one of us stopped considering the current team in this state to be good steersmen we decided to give the whole community an alternative. Please let us introduce you to Fork AD. The amount of changes that have been made to the code since we forked is greater in number than the amount of changes to WFG's SVN repo since May. That may not sound like a lot, until you consider that we've been at this for less than a month, and WFG allegedly has a lot more active members. Now we know you've been craving to know some details of what we've changed so far. Apart from fixing some glaring bugs in the code that were even pointed out to WFG when they were noticed, we are updating a lot of things so we don't place users of our code at risk. There also is a lot better Single Player support, though one could blame that on most of said code effectively being unmaintained, better mod support, improved development tools, a bunch of housekeeping that was needed, and more. If you now ask yourself when and where you can download Fork AD, we still have to defer you to a later point. We will release for all supported platforms, which are still Linux, macOS, Windows, and BSDs, once we are confident that we are releasing something that fullfills your expectations, and is something we can be proud of. Although the progress has already been substantial, we are always open for reinforcement, either from new people or from those disappointed or demotivated by the WFG direction. Artists in particular are very welcomed. As said before, the state of that fork is not yet publicly available, but all information will be given on our website when available. Meanwhile, you can reach us at https://web.libera.chat/gamja/#forkad Kind regards, fatherbushido, leper and mimo.1 point

Hello everybody. A long time ago I suggested here a possible entry on 0 A.D. on Wikibooks Wikimedia project. As nobody felt motivated to do it, I started it this week. The main idea is, throughout the chapters of the book, allow people to know not only the characteristics of the game but also a little of the history of its development, its technical challenges, and attempts on the adequacy and fidelity to the historical aspects, as the game put a strong emphasis on historical accuracy. In order to follow the rules of the Wikibooks project, the book does not intend to be a strategy guide and/or a walk-through. So, it is a start. I think it will be funny to write about the project in a way different from what we can get on Wikipedia. - https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/0_A.D. Regards, Sturm1 point

Obviously Themistocles is a naval focussed hero. I don't have any particular issue with this, but it means that he is never used for land maps for any good reason. I think that it would be nice to give him a buff for wall construction either in speed or cheapness. He was instrumental in Athens completing the long wall and their city walls after Persia had sacked the city. What are your thoughts?1 point

What kind of 'free code' do you mean? Not the already free game code? Funding developers to write new or improve existing code, or do reviews, or artwork, presenting the game software conventions, or whatever else Wildfire Games needs to accomplish the objectives of Software in the Public Interest. There is still a lot to do until this game is finished, and a successor to this game was planned too.1 point

Thanks for the patch anyway. I guess I will be able to reuse parts of it for https://github.com/0ADMods/building-sockets1 point

Calling the gameplay modders i remember for a helping hand: @wowgetoffyourcellphone @Angen @ffffffff @borg- I Ask for a helping hand in this case for any1 of you guys if possible, to start a github mod for the gaul redesign, proposed by @Genava55 so i can properly implement the rest of the shields and give a more in depth, historical accurate, and interesting Celtic factions in a Kushite/Seleucid Scale. The main goal of this mod is for having a base for the changes done in the celtic roster including the carnyx if desired, and later branch that changes if you guys want into your mods, but having the Master only with the historical accurate changes. Otherwise for having also the alternative of the deffault vanilla roster @Genava55 may i request also a distribution for the actual roster in the meantime?1 point

While not ideal, DE makes this work with the 'Upgrade' feature. You can switch the Maiden Guard from Sword to Bow to Flaming Arrows and back.1 point
-
It's a dual role unit, switchable templates would have them put their bows and quivers to use, but we don't have those yet.1 point

Hi! What do you mean by that? (can you detail it a bit more?)1 point

3. Should all factions have a battering ram? Yes, even if just 2 or 4 dudes carrying a log. In fact, you could have the "dudes+log" be the default battering ram in Town Phase, and then there be a "Covered Battering Ram" upgrade come in City Phase.1 point

I prefer the one here at the Royal Ontario Museum even if they did not bother trying to get the paint right the style is a much better take on Greek Classical statues .Will give me an excuse to visit my youngest brother in Toronto and take some photos. Enjoy the Choice1 point

Stone and Wood should suffice, yeah. (same as in DE) I also have a yuge problem with a lot of the costs of things in vanilla, technologies especially. I don't think anything should cost more than 2 different resources except for special cases.1 point

I don't request a subforum about special units, it's just a topic about that without any other purpose to speak of that in a generic way It seems the post above was posted in the wrong topic, am I wrong?1 point

While reading old irc logs from 2010-2011, I read ideas about having different path of "upgrading" soldiers depending of the civ. I don't quote but that idea (from "Mythos") was: for example: - cart upgrades by ethnicity - pers upgrades Infantry and Cavalry separately - greek upgrade by unit type (spearmen, javeliners, ...) - celt, iber upgrade by weapons (sword, spear, ...) There are things like that in DE mod and there was also in WFG 0ad before almost all was flatten in the blacksmith. Let's talk.1 point

First of all, congratulations on the excellent 3D modeling work. You really are an artist! However, let me also say that in the case of textures, the buildings seem to be ... I do not know if I can explain it well ... but they seem to be "too brand new" ... the buildings appear "not to fit" in the scenario... Maybe it's the colors, maybe they lack a bit of "dirt" on the walls or in the areas near the floor, more color variations... Regards, Sturm1 point

The ingame wallbuilding changes the size so as to adapt to the playerchosen area to cover. There are small medium and long wallpieces, and any length is achieved by hiding excess wall length inside the turrets. I guess you know that already. The problem is that it sometimes looks odd? It should be possible to adapt the length numbers in the templates to not get ugly results. If one only uses fixed length pieces, it won't be possible to wall off some passages. It might even result in not being able to close a circle if there would be no adaptation. So if they sometimes look ugly, I think it should be possible to use better numbers, so that the ingame wall placement algorithm can chose 3 medium wall pieces that look better than 4 short ones for instance. Or what's the issue that needs remodeling? I forgot the OOM. That was the reason we support mapsize 512 (giant) and not 1024. You are right that one could avoid initializing a grid for the entire map, but only allocate memory for the parts of the map that were written too. The problem is that it map authors probably need to be able to create something the the high res grid and then refer to that grid later on. So one can't discard the grids automatically after a single processing step. Using Binary_space_partitioning one could access the high-res-grid areas with good performance. However partial grids won't save much if the the majority of the map area uses these grids. Map authors could deallocate the grids if they don't need it anymore, but a solution that doesn't require these additional steps would be easier to handle. I recall the alternative was just storing all entity shapes, which could be extended to include visual actor shapes. The RandomMap object already has a list of entities stored and can easily lookup the obstruction sizes of the few templates used by the map. With BSP one could do the collision tests quickly. Actually we don't want to test for obstruction collisions but want to mark arbitrary areas on the map with a tag (tileclass), but that could still be solved by storing area formulas instead of rasterizing them.... At least for rectangles and disks that would work, but not really for paths, meh. Perhaps these grids could be eh compressed with lzma...dunno...1 point

Small simple mod which enables stables as living space for animals. So now you cannot just build one stables and spam cavalry, at the start you have 5 free place for horses and every Stable adds space for 10 more. Limited units to buildings: cavalry and elephants @nani Life space.zip1 point

This game is amazing, I've been looking for something like this for awhile now. I love city builder RTS games and I've been looking for a game that has anything to do with Egypt and this fits me perfectly. I do want to know though if you'll be expanding on the building aspect of it? like Id really like to fill my kingdom with different structures or statues and pyramids, obelisks, even adding roads would be awesome, because right now it kinda feels empty with just the same few structures1 point

The purpose of Wildfire Games is to create free software. From what I can tell 0 A.D. is one of the highest quality free video games and probably the most qualitative free RTS videogame. It seems silly to depart from that unique position to become a lower tier proprietary RTS. Doing free software means that one can't sell licensed copies of code or artfiles like thankforpie proposed if one wants to remain an organization operating exclusively to produce free software (because free software grants everyone the right to make free copies). That doesn't mean that one can't use crowdfunding to further 0 A.D. And the fact that free software is a charitable cause gives WFG and donors tax-exemption at least.1 point

In my perspective following the thorsberg (wood planks) shield and the covered leather. Wood: Base Shape of the shield structure. Player color - Celtic Design: Leather cover teared from hits revealing the wood, (i wish i could give bump map in that teared zones making it look like scratches) 1- Yesterday Texture already commented by stan | 2 - Texture used in most of the shapes | 3/4 - New texture baked today adding wood planks, and teared leather cover (player color) above both player color and celtic design. Edit: Added specular map and norm map with the affected zones here the result: Note: Both textures can be applied to the shields by leaving the damaged variant when healths drops below % Amount.1 point

Hi Stanislas69 and thank you for the welcome. Thank you, also for the clarification. I just assumed everything created went for peer review and acceptance prior to inclusion in the game, as is done on my project at my day job. Everything we do is reviewed and tested prior to inclusion into our software. I guess, I just assumed it was also the norm for your organization. I will contact @Nescio and @Itms about what is needed most at this time. Thanks again for your information, Dok1 point

Hi Nescio and thank you for the welcome. In answer to your questions, as I stated in my application, I am interested in all forms of documentation needed by the project. I would be very interested in working with the in-game documentation you referred to. I did see several places in the game where the information was sparse to say the least. I have heard of LaTex and Markdown, but have never used them. I am familiar with XML and HTML as I use them in my day work. I use a product produced by Madcap software called "Flare." I am also familiar with Dreamweaver, Muse and Edge (Adobe products) for generating HTML. I use WordPress and ServerPress for website building. https://play0ad.com is where I downloaded the game to begin with. I have also explored many of the links on the "Development" tab (trac) to begin my work on the bible for my own use. I have registered with "code", thanks to your inquiry, but not yet to "trac". I will do that today. Your last question kind of stumps me as I am not sure what the context of the question means. Are not all volunteer,s that are welcomed into the midst, belong to the "team" or is there another hierarchical level that I am not aware of that has a different pathway then the rest of the volunteers? Either way, I do not believe I can truthfully answer that question, being as I was just welcomed and have no idea yet of your project status or what has been done and what is still needed. Is there a POC for documentation or a documentation manager that I can contact to find out where I would be needed the most? If that is you, by any chance, then great. Let me know what you would like me to do. In the meantime I will start looking at the in-game documentation and start researching the information. Thanks, Dok1 point
