This mod was originally started on A23 in the fall of 2020. It is a mod that modifies the gameplay and adapts to some of my habits as an Age of Empires 3 player. When the first version of the mod was just finished, A24 was released, so half a year later, I started from scratch on A25, and now the modifications have roughly achieved the desired effect, so I will post it here as well. Because I am Chinese, I will give a general introduction in Chinese and English. The English part is translated by machine. Please refer to the Chinese content. 相比A25这个模组主要改动如下: Compared with the A25, the main changes of this mod are as follows: 现在的版本是0.25.7,这里提供模组本体以及汉文补丁。 The current version is 0.25.7, here is the mod body and another Chinese patch(Players who do not understand Chinese do not need to download this). As someone who plays Seleucids pretty regularly these day, I actually never even knew about this. Unless I find myself playing a 1v1 on an inappropriately large map, the thought of building a new CC is one that never even occurs to me. The military colony is a superior building for expansions.2 points

Maybe the feature is fine, but I think it's really bad there's no info. Should be in the tooltip and maybe a loading screen.2 points

In most game, skiritai are probably between not used (because Brasidas allows to make an army with high DPS, and thin meat shield) and around 40 units, very rarely more since they are not good for the economy. I think making skiritai less attractive will just make them not used at all since other strategies will just dominate any strategy featuring skiritai. A group of 10-15 units doing commandos mission seems to describe best the way naked fanatics are used in the game rather than the skiritais. There are two issues in my opinion with Sparta spear champions: - upgrading champions is rarely a viable strategy. Melee champions are not meant to be produced in large quantities, they will die before being massed or they won't be affordable anymore (Shield bearers have the same issue); - spear infantry champions are not cost efficient. If spear champions are designed as better to counter cavalry and to loose against sword infantry champions, then spear champions infantry has very little usage in the game. They are too slow to catch cavalries, too weak to fight swordsmen, too expensive to stand idle or be used as meatshield. All spear infantry champions or mercenaries are barely used at all in the game. Assuming that everyone with a long stick should be specialized at killing horses is a bad idea if we also aimed at having a low amount of these horses on the battlefield.2 points

Hes not joking (at least I tested this with the ptolemies which are similar to seleucids) Maybe the limit exists because the 2 civs have military colonies, but it's super weird that the limit doesnt exist if you have a hero and that there is no information about this2 points

I am not disputing that at all, I quite enjoyed using them back in the day. I was simply pointing out that spartan champion swords men where different to the others2 points

The time one needs for capturing is the timer. I think it's fine that once you own a building you can do with it whatever you please.2 points

I think Briton chariots should be different from archer chariots. Maybe Mauryan chariots should function different than scythed chariots. What I would like to see is to make the Briton chariot a unit that can carry infantry (or priests) without further benefits than speed. This gives the player the ability to quickly do guerrilla strikes with infantry. Every chariot would have fighting capabilities similar to an elite rank CS jav cav, but when produced it also comes with a free infantry champion garrisoned in it, so you don't need to tediously load the chariots. It would have the major advantage that the infantry are now a mobile force that unlike cavalry do not take a bonus damage from spearmen.2 points

I think rams are too strong now, and the cost is too high. It should be a relatively cheap siege weapon that mainly consumes wood. It should be able to be produced in P2. Correspondingly, it should also be slower, more fragile, and lower in damage.1 point

should be disabled imo. Seems very not ovious and I don't see a specific reason for why they need to be able to build cc's.1 point

It is possible to merge the obstructions dynamically but I wonder if gameplay would suffer? Without roads Walkers in a row? Why not. => Formations. Already there. Effects also. Yes I like some more economy and loveliness. Like my profession and apprentice system I urgently need to overhaul1 point

Competitive team games too. Basically if you keep melee units around for that long it’s because the other side isn’t doing a very good job of killing units. It’s rare to see level 3 units in the game now and when you do it’s probably because the game is already over. sparta also used to have champ swords. Would like more than just the champ spears there. Yeah, I meant more cost etc. so that it isn’t just a backdoor to make champs also strong agree re officers. I think also suggested that somewhere back in the forums, though, and no one seemed interest. I think of something like that being a cool semi-hero bonus.1 point

The Extraordinarii were recruited exclusively from Rome's Itallic allies. So does not make sense as an upgrade for Roman Hastatii.1 point
-
I think he means that Extraordinarii were by definition not Roman, but instead Italian/Latin allies. Thanks! Yeah, basically it would just be a small core of Centurions. Can have a max number (easily done in the code; already possible), so that they don't simply replace regular champions. Perhaps max 5 and they give a small (non-stacking, so you spread them out) bonus to nearby troops, since Centurions are officers. If no aura, then maybe max 10. It would just be neat to be able to actively promote some of your units to something stronger, rather than having them passively do it for you. EDIT: in DE, I allow players to promote up to 2 Spartiates to Olympic Champions and Macedonian Hypaspists to Silver Shields (and Hetairoi to Somataphylakes). Helot Slaves can also be promoted to basic Hoplites after researching "Helot Emancipation." That would be a neat stat for the end screens. Perhaps an XP column. Not sure which tab it would go under.1 point

Well teamgames are a thing too. Just requires you to play differently if your goal is to have your units promote to champions. If competitive won't be able to achieve units getting to 4th rank (seriously doubt it though)- no loss no gain i guess. Skiritai won't get to champions because spartans don't have champion swordsman type unit. And there are also ranged units that would be able to promote to champions if that type of unit exists for the civ. Kushite archers to noble archers for example.1 point
-
This was discussed before. It would be virtually impossible to do in competitive games for most melee units. The exception would be games where skill isn't close (i.e., not competitive) or with skirati (units that get a 2 rank head start). As a result, I would prefer @wowgetoffyourcellphone's suggestion in the abstract. I would be curious on how to do it so that cost makes sense and isn't just a work around for training champs to beginwith1 point
-
So, for Romans, I was thinking of making a patch to where you can promote the Elite Swordsman and the Elite Spearman to Centurion (4th) rank for a cost. Maybe limit it to a max of 10 or something. I'll fix the Centurion's sheath position. You guys are quite right to note that while the Romans wore theirs on the right, the Centurion wore theirs on the left, possibly for additional distinction.1 point

Yes, the Samnites are described in length in the book 9 and 10 of Livy's history of Rome1 point
-
Concerning the topic of single geaves, this is attested by an account, Livy: LIVY, 9, 40: Equal danger, and an issue equally glorious, soon after attended the war with the Samnites; who, besides their many preparations for the field, made their army to glitter with new decorations of their armour. [2] Their troops were in two divisions, one of which had their shields embossed with gold, the other with silver. The shape of the shield was this; broad at the middle to cover the breast and shoulders, the summit being flat, sloping off gradually so as to become pointed below, that it might be wielded with ease; [3] a cuirass also served as a protection for the breast, and the left leg was covered with a greave; their helmets were adorned with plumes, to add to the appearance of their stature. [4] The golden-armed soldiers wore tunics of various colours; the silver-armed, of white linen. To the latter the right wing was assigned; the former took post on the left. [5] The Romans had been apprized of these splendid accoutrements, and had been taught by their commanders, that “a soldier ought to be rough; not decorated with gold and silver, but placing his confidence in his sword.1 point
-
This at least means that whether the sword hangs on the left or right side of the body has nothing to do with the shape of the shield.1 point
-
This should be an eclectic product of the Italians influenced by Greek hoplite, because many peoples with swordsmen do not have greaves at all.1 point
-
That's not fashion, and if you've ever used a sword and shield, you'll find that in combat your left leg is in a lunge in front and your right leg is supported in the back. In this position, the shield is more resistant to impact and your right leg is safe in the back, so you only need to protect the left calf in front with the shin guard. In addition, it has little to do with the shape of the shield. This is mainly because the sword at this time is relatively short, the scabbard is on the right side of the body, and the sword is drawn upwards faster. You can't do this if the sword is longer than 80cm.1 point
-
Small nitpick, but i think the sheaths are on the wrong side of the hip. They were generally worn on the opposite side of the dominant hand.1 point

Well then slingers have more accuracy1 point
-
We also need g=9.8 +-0.1 ms^-2 (to 2s.f) and not some javlins experiencing g=42 right next to some archers with g=17 nonsense1 point
-
Perhaps I can suggest a middle-ground solution to your argument: Projectiles maintain the same accuracy as before, but the launch speed is near infinity. This will ensure absolute precision but Not necessarily guaranteed hit. If your archers did aim accurately, then the projectile will hit the enemy unit and there is no chance to avoid projectiles by dancing. However, if your archers aimed inaccurately in the first place then the probability of missing is also 1. After this is implemented, dancing will be obsolete but there will be no unrealistic homing missiles or any additional pathfinding issues.1 point

The idea makes sense. A hot key similar to the go-to-last-attacked-alert could also go along with it. A general comment on sound notifications and cool downs. We often operate as though unless a sound effect has played we are not under attack. Sometimes we come under attack but no sound effect has played and we are upset to see the damage we have suffered. (Is this because of cool-downs? What are the other conditions?) Having the outpost make a noise, especially inconsistently, might similarly frustrate players by habituating them to expect alert sounds.1 point

My idea. Let's keep it simple, shall we? To differentiate the Epilektos from other champion spearmen, let's make them have -1 all armor types, but +10% speed, +20% attack range, and +10% attack. I can make a slightly longer hoplite spear for them and also resize a smaller aspis for them. I don't think a champion needs to necessarily look more armored than an elite citizen unit, especially since if they historically did not necessarily wear more armor. If you want to change the name, then I am open. In the old days we had to make it simple, and the "Ekdromos" didn't seem like a good fit for a champion, hence the genesis of the Epilektos (and the Marine) which combined the aspects of the Picked Hoplite and Iphicratean reforms.1 point

My thoughts: Cataphract: slower speed, better armour, good against infantry, especially ranged infantry. Also good against other cav in close quarter combat but is not fast enough to beat spear cav. Chariots: mini siege towers that can shoot while moving, unlike regular cavalry archers that have to stand still before shooting. However, to nerf them, they don't target one unit but all enemies entities when fighting.1 point
