Hey gameboy, that's related to me merging D359 yesterday. You can fix it by de-activating fancy effects as it turns out I can reproduce this (didn't notice yesterday, unluckily). Edit - I'm interested in other people reporting SQL/GL error, by the way, as testing these shaders things is annoying at best.2 points

I've also got a few questions. I took the liberty of continuing your numbering Nescio. 58. Is it possible to change an actor's look (i.e. VisualActor) using a tech (explicitly not via upgrading to another template)? Preferably just part of the entity, like when one upgrades the shields of pikemen in the Blacksmith the shields actually change. The reason why I'm asking is because I've introduced a more fluent experience system, like in the Batalion-mod, but now the only way to see the difference between a basic and an elite soldier is by looking at its rank icon (which is not too bad I guess). If it is possible, could one point me in the right direction? The only VisualActor (c-)component I could find was in simulation2/components where I did find a MT_ValueModification listener, so I tried: let newActorName = []; newActorName.push("units/athenians/infantry_spearman_a.xml"); warn(uneval(newActorName)); Engine.BroadcastMessage(MT_ValueModification, { "entities": [this.entity], "component": "VisualActor", "valueNames": newActorName}); as a test using an Athenian Hoplite, but it does not work. No error, but also no change in appearance. Any help would be appreciated. 59. Another "is it possible" I want to change the ability to select a single entity, e.g. when a unit goes berserk, it should not be selectable for a while. I found out that one can do that by using an upgrade, so the template changes, but any ideas how I can do it without the template-changing? (To make it reversible.)2 points

Today, I tested the latest version of SVN22302. When I started the game, there was a problem message on the main interface of the game: ‘WARNING: SDL_Set Windows Gamma Ramp failed.’ BTW: When I rotated the camera, I found the red box, which had never appeared before. The map I used was the Mediterranean coast.1 point

To be pedantic it cannot be a DDoS (distributed denial of service) if there is only one computer doing the deed. It would be nice to have actual proof someone is trying to cause denial of service. Do you have any logs on your router to support your claim ? I'm not saying you are lying, but not much can be done without proof unfortunately.1 point

Yeah, their maps are really rough... They clearly don't consider geographic accuracy a relevant concern for their video's. A missed opportunity for a channel trying to bring lesser known histories to the fore. Their topics are definitely interesting and I enjoy watching their vids, but yeah, they could be better... I love Osprey, but yeah, it's not exactly academic literature in the narrow sense. Yep... Here's a very critical look at pre-Islamic North African trade with West Africa, from an archaeological perspective. It's definitely somewhat outdated, and completely ignores the written histories, but it's still interesting: https://journals.openedition.org/afriques/1145 This article is not very detailed, but still interesting: https://www.caitlingreen.org/2017/10/saharan-and-trans-saharan-contacts.html Contains a nice map depicting the locations of Roman and Byzantine finds in Saharan and Sub Saharan sites: This article is short and brief, but informative: https://www.ancient.eu/article/1199/the-roman-empire-in-west-africa/ (The Nok did NOT establish Djenne though, that's a huge fart on the writers part) One thing that isn't explored enough is the trade in West African gold, which I believe may have been substantial since at least Carthaginian times. The gold fields were usually kept secret, so you wouldn't expect many detailed written histories on the subject. They really need to get those chemical analysis done ASAP... Angus McBride's interpretation of Carthaginian traders in the Tichitt region of the South Western Sahara (they are ancestral to the Serer/Bafour/Mande peoples): The other thing that is constantly ignored, and this really grinds my gears, is the important role that the Kingdom of Kush played as an intermediary between Ancient, Greek and Roman Egypt and Sub Saharan Africa. They were by far the most powerful, wealthy and advanced civilization that stretched well into Sub-Saharan Africa, and their North-South trade was very strongly established since pre-Dynastic times, and continued on a large scale even after the fall of Meroë, up until the Islamic conquest of North Africa. Whatever volumes were traded across the Western Sahara during Antiquity, I am very confident that they paled in comparison to the volumes and variety of goods traded along the length of the Nile river. Kushite/Upper Nile Valley trade relations with more Western regions along the Sudanic belt, passing through Darfur are almost completely ignored in academia, but an important part of the puzzle in my opinion. In addition, there is a very large corpus of detailed depictions of Sub Saharan Africans in a Hellenic and Hellenistic context, of people with explicit Nilo-Saharan features (I'll make a separate post about this, because it's even more substantial than I originally realized) as well as a large amount of Sub Saharans in Roman art, many with Nilo Saharan features as well. And there is a wealth of not often cited written histories referring to these people as well, but even established researchers tend to get pretty lazy when it comes to Sub Saharan topics. Also the Byzantine relations with Christian Nubia (The Kingdoms of Nobatia, Makuria and Alodia) and with Christian Ethiopia (Aksumite empire) were direct and substantial, to say the least. The video did mention Aksum, but still didn't come close to really exposing the nature of the kingdom at the time. Oh well. I have this gnawing, purely conjectural feeling that Septimius Flaccus expedition to lake Chad may have wrecked some serious havoc in the region and may have even contributed to the terminal decline of the Nok Culture, by disrupting their trade networks to the Lake Chad region. As I said, just conjecture on my part , but I feel that the possibilty needs to be explored, as the dates coincide..1 point

I think that the issue with the Royal Stoa is first of all, why is it royal? That makes it only refer to one of many stoas built. Next, it should be redesigned if it will still play a role in the game. As far as I am aware, there are two functions the stoa could serve, commercial and academic, possibly both. To outline my rationale, most of the time these were used for trading, and the Stoic school of philosophy was even named after this structure. I could see it having a purpose of being used to research various technologies based on the aforementioned points, but if it seems like just one more duplicity, then I won't miss its presence in the game. As a definite point, the Spartans shouldn't have the stoa. They resented trade, and as far as I am aware, they never built a single one.1 point

Seleucids during the reign of Antiochus III relied on the Phoenician navy, so indeed this is not exactly the same situation than the other Greeks and Hellenes building their own ships and less dependent to one region.1 point

I never was a fan of medieval fantasy. I never liked it, and that's a big advantage.1 point

That something might have seemed a good idea in the past doesn't mean it should be set in stone; ideas can evolve. I'm posting here to have a critical look at the Seleucid unit roster and discuss whether it still makes sense in the current situation. As did Athens and Sparta. That doesn't mean they should have them, though.1 point

Originally, war elephants were a replacement for battering rams, so they wouldn't count as Champions. That's all changed though.1 point

Yes, I see currently: Britons, Iberians, Macedonians, Romans: 2 Carthaginians, Gauls, Ptolemies, Seleucids: 3 Spartans: 4 Athenians, Mauryas: 4+1 Kushites, Persians: 5 Yes, I agree; not really relevant for the Seleucids, though. Something else, the Seleucids currently have a quinquereme (which uses the Ptolemaic actor); I think it should be removed (and the Macedonians should get one). In Hellenistic times Carthage, Rome, Macedon, Rhodes, and the Ptolemies were the naval powers, but not the Seleucids.1 point

Regarding 59.: I discarded the idea to make a unit unselectable, but I now let it ignore all orders. However, for this I need to set (in UnitAI.js) // Ignore orders. "Order.Attack": function(){ }, "Order.Move": function(){ }, for every order that can be given and for every stance that needs it (e.g. broken, amok, berserk), which is bad in my opinion. Is there, to anyones knowledge, a more general way of ignoring all orders? And if there is, could one point me in that direction?1 point

Yes, I'm dusting off this old topic. 0 A.D.'s Seleucids have a great architecture set, but I think it's time to have a critical look at their unit roster, as @Genava55 is doing elsewhere for the Britons and Gauls. To start with, I think the Seleucid troops should be based on the reign of Antiochus III the Great (r. 222–187 BC), for several reasons: representative for the Seleucid empire (312–63 BC); a century earlier it was founded; a century later it was reduced to a rump state contemporary of Hannibal, Scipio, and Philip V successful general, many victories (and some defeats), reasserting control over various regions texts from several authors (Polybius, Livius, Arrian) have survived Polybius lists Antiochus' army the Battle of Raphia (217 BC): Livy describes his army at the Battle of Magnesia (190 BC): As does Appian (minor differences): Polybius also describes a parade organized by Antiochus IV (reign 175–164 BC): Currently players have to choose between a traditional army (Silver Shield Pikeman and Scythed Chariot) and a reformed army (Romanized Heavy Swordsman and Seleucid Cataphract). However, the sources make it clear that heavy cavalry was used in combination with pikemen and chariots, so this choice is an artificial dichotomy. Furthermore, the cataphracts in question are apparently Galatians (Celts who sacked Delphi and settled around Ankara). Perhaps something for a mini-faction? [more to follow later]1 point

I think we should consider OpenGL deprecated going forward, too. Mac OS has done so, so the only useful thing is OGL 2 for legacy systems support. Vulkan / Vulkan+MoltenVK are probably the systems of the future for us.1 point

Well the issue is that Mainland and Anatolian Plateau aren't exactly the prettiest maps... I don't think this will be committed, I haven't seen @aeonios around for a while now. Well if that 20% are Linux users maybe not. I believe Mesa doesn't support high GL versions... Cheers Mates, thanks for keeping the community alive ! @feneur Maybe we should post those on twitter + facebook on Sundays mornings to get more people to watch them...1 point

for me one of the main problems of the "Livestream Pro Game Series" is that we don't have these nice graphics from @LordGood and @Stan` and all the other Graphics Developers in the live stream of @HMS-Surprise @Feldfeld @Unknown_Player and @psypherium (Alistair). Is that maybe a problem of performance with large unit amounts in game? Or is it simply a lack of good graphics card? For promoting this game this is a very sad showing off the game if we only focus on skill and tactics but the leave the ambient feeling of the graphics side behind. Maybe we can fix that somehow? If the performance is the problem I guess we have to wait for the multithread pathfinding at least. I hope there is a progress coming. Btw is there finally a graphics computing thread in progress? Or this nice new @aeonios graphics patch around @vladislavbelov? Because for the ambient feeling this is very sad if were are not gaining that. Btw the stream and the gameplay and the commentary else was really nice! Thx to everyone at that point! ( @borg- @nani @elexis @Boudica for acknowledge and all the other ) Here is the last Stream link for a quick look:1 point
