  1. remember the lobby is used also by casual players who want to do private games together with their friends, oftentimes against AIs or with modded versions of the game. they wouldn't have any interest in taking that test.

  5. mace_exploit.mov Credit to weirdjokes for this one. People will soon be abusing this, as word is spreading. Macedonians seem to be able to generate res by repeatedly trading res back and forth. Ex. 500 stone -> metal 500 metal -> stone 500 stone -> metal 500 metal -> stone 500 stone -> metal etc. If you do it with speed, it seems to generate res, so in just a few seconds, I had an extra 500 metal. Maybe this is a release blocker?

  7. @Yekaterina I don't know if this is a valid question: Who will spent his/her time to create a entrance test? Doing an entrance test before you can play ranked games does not seem so bad. I think this is a very valid concern. Finally, what is the goal and what is the method? If stopping smurfs is the goal then I don't know if the entrace test is the ideal method. But I have a better idea for an entrance requirement for OP TGs and it does not require a programmer. Get your 1v1 rating above 1500 or be kicked. Jokingly, I can't help to remark this: I don't know if this idea is fine with meth.

  9. I agree. Perhaps it would be just enough to be able to train up to 3 heroes, but each one only once. Can still have more than 3 available heroes that way.

  11. Hi, I tested this in a game and I was unable to make pillar in phase 2 because the pillar needed hero to raise the limit from 0 to 5. So basically, I had to train Ashoka to get pillar(p3), an to go overboard I trained chanakya and garrisoned it in blacksmith. The train time was op fast, almost exploit level. but the wait was not worth it. It'll be good if we can make pillars without hero in town phase as proposed though.

  13. Huh. I guess you are serious about this, contrary to what I expected reading the title. First of all, I don't think this would be a good idea. I understand we don't suffer from a too large player base, so I wouldn't want to put up too many hurdles for potential newbies. Personally, if I wanted to check out the online multiplayer part of a game and was presented with an ~hour long exam to enter I might say 'What is this $#!t ?' and leave right away. I'm not necessarily convinced saying a n00b is 'not ready' is a good approach; if they play poorly, they will get handed their butt swiftly, but anyone serious about playing strategic games against others will learn from that and improve. As for smurfs, I think people will just have to live with it. A welcome message in the lobby could tell ppl that ratings might not be accurate and remind everyone to be kind; seems to me that one or two additional active mods would do more for a good experience than any technical approach. However, should the swarm intelligence decide to go with this exam, I guess something like a lake map, populated with three medium AIs showing the behavior you suggested, would do fine; as you want to include all kind of things into the score ceiling or floor effects shouldn't be too much of a problem.

  14. btw today a player called Sarah T came on and met me. She complained that everywhere she goes, people harass her and interrogate her whether she is me. This is unacceptable; you don't harass innocent people for my problems. If you got a problem with me then take it to me; send a message on forum or ask me to a 1v1 duel. You can even publically shame me on the forum if necessary. However, harassing any of my innocent friends is absolutely unacceptable! Nor does it solve your problem! Don't vent your obsession problems on innocent people just because you are too scared of me! @user1 pls don't ban random innocent people just because someone claimed they are my smurf account. Smurf speculators are rarely right. Just because you saw a feminine account name, doesn't mean it's definitely my smurf account. It's very likely that they are just a new player, although not necessarily female. defenderbenny

  15. there are a couple of new details in the link. Relationship with Han Dynasty. According to Chinese history books, "Ronko" (Lunheng) written in The Later Han Dynasty provides knowledge about Wa in the Zhou period, and historical records of the Han Dynasty explains about Wa in the age of the former Han dynasty, such as; people of Wa were living in many separated provinces and they sent an envoy. "History of the Later Han Dynasty" (the period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, established in 432) describes that Wano Nano Kokuo (the King of Japan) received Kanno Wano Nano Kokuo Kinin (the Golden Seal of the King of Japan, Chinese Colony) from Kobu-tei (Emperor Guangwu) of The Later Han Dynasty in 57. Also Suisho the King of Wa (倭国王帥升) (also written as 倭面土國王帥升) sent seiko (slave) to The Later Han Dynasty in 107. "Gishiwajinden" (literally, an 'Account of the Wa' in "The History of the Wei Dynasty") from Sangokushi (Annals of the Three Kingdoms) describes state of Wakoku in the third century in detail that Queen Himiko ruled over the Yamatai-Koku kingdom. Although there is no evidence of an official negotiation between Wakoku and Wu in the Three Kingdoms period, two Gabuntai Shinjukyo Mirror (Mirror with figures of duties and sacred animals) with the name of the era in Wu exists as a relic. One was excavated from Toriibarakitsunezuka Tumulus in Ichikawa Misatocho (former Mitamacho), Nishiyatsushiro district, Yamanashi Prefecture and it has an inscription about counting years of Sekiu Gannen (year 1) Year (in 238). Another was excavated from Akura Tumulus in Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture and it has an inscription about counting years of year seven in Sekiu (in 244).

  19. I think we need to try some opportunities for differentiating civs. I recently made a mod change gameplay as a whole, but a more conservative approach would be to only differentiate a few factions. Also since gameplay mainly stays the same, people do not need to adapt as much to the new settings to enjoy the game. I differentiated the following factions: Athenians: Can now reasearch economic technologies for 50% less metal. Coupled with the extra metal mining speed this encourages players to use p2 earlier than other factions. Gauls; Can now train fanatics for -20 metal in 15 seconds. This should allow fanatic rushes to be more succesful. Also the slinger becomes available in p2 in the CC, which means that if you go to p2 early without barrack, you can use that precious stone to train infantry (slingers). Kushites: Can build small pyramids for 150 stone in p1 and have 50 meter aura. This makes their eco unique. Mauryans: Can build pillars in p2. Pillars reduce the research time of nearby structures by 50%. Persians: Can now train spear cavalry in p1 at the CC as well as jav cav. Their skirmishers cost -20 wood and have -20% attack. Having access to the skirmisher is an now a bigger advantage for the boom, encouraging Persians to reach p2 earlier. Their CS melee cav and archer cav is now better(see below) also encouraging p2 play more. It also creates a quantity of quality approach for Persian infantry. Romans: Can open/close the doors of Janus in the temple. When closed the temple has no additional aura. When opened Infantry trains 20% faster and need -20% experience for promotion but they gather resources 20% slower. Spartans: Skiritai are now rank 2 but move 30% faster. I am curious to see if faster speed is more fun than bare strength. Also I want to add a few minor balance changes Archer v skirms changes Archery tradition is 50% cheaper, but requires p2 (a net buff as nobody would do the tech in p1 anyway) Iberian team bonus only reduces the food cost of skirmishers by 10%. Cavalry changes: Rome/Iber Champion cavalry nerf: Rome cav loses 2 pierce&hack armor, while Iber champ cav loses 9 pierce attack. Merc cav now cost 95 metal. Spear cav gets +1 hack/pierce armor and axe cav gets +2 hack and +1 pierce armor. Promoting CS units from rank 2 to 3 now requires +50% XP Melee infantry get +9.1% attack (NB This also affects the skiritai and fanatic). ps: I also worked on another mod and posted at the forum earlier. However rest assured that I won't spam mod suggestions as I do not intend to make more than these two. For the other see https://wildfiregames.com/forum/topic/68779-expansiongameplay/?do=getNewComment Proposed-featuresmodV2.zip

  20. I don't know whats wrong with all balancing people who think that giving any unit rank two, especially for a small fee will help or make them just unique. SImply making op civ. Let's take current merc cavlary, what kind of outcome you got there? OP unit. Skiritai were strong in a23, then someone decided to debuff them and again one more time lets buff them due being weak civ. Good tactic: rush p2, get upgrades, rush another player. Player usually dies as skiritai from start has better dmg, better hp, etc. basically even if enemy do upgrades of p2, still will have weaker units. More eco damage. Every unit should cost more of metal, 200+, then metal on the map should be reduced especially the one in the area of cc's. Basically reduce amount of spawned resources, except trees. Starting res of metal should be 2k rather than 5k. People should be forced to make more cc's or actually use traders. Didn't play your mod, just quick tip while balancing as many forgets about rank 2 being just unfair. RANK 2 units should be allowed to build any buildings or do any eco. They are buffed to the max and mostly these are the mercenaries (hired to do specific job, not to do your eco or building ur stuff)

  23. I did not consider people unwelcoming, except for the special one from Brussels. Also I clearly had some general mistakes that revealed that I am was not an experienced player. My story might not translate to other new people as they don't get the honor of being compared to Stockfish. Also when people said I really was Stockfish, I just played along saying things like "Stockfish is so good, I can't be him". I just want to express that not everyone considers the environment unwelcoming for new players. Fun fact: On Voobly for AoE2, real noobs get smashed really hard in the new player lobby. So before I joined online play, I prepared myself a little offline. I remember watching Stockfish play against Weirdjokes on Pyrenean sierra casted by tom0ad. Though I can't find the game anymore, so maybe I am wrong on the details. I think I remember the player names correct as they were weird and funny ones.

  25. Great idea! We don't need anyone to review noob games; their score says everything. We can prevent them from changing game settings so that there is 0 chance of cheating. Now, if you are hosting an OP TG, you only let people with OP badge in (reasonable). This OP badge is only obtained by good performance in the test, which is optional. So, if a new player who is good comes along, you can just tell them to do the test, instead of saying 'I don't know you' and kicking them. It really hurts people's feelings and they have no obligation to be 'known' to you. Similarly, if a smurf nubs on purpose - they get certified noob badge and OP TGs will kick them out. City builders will get the cosmic badge and they can be left in peace to build their cities. Noob TGs don't really need balance because new players improve very very quickly (especially after reading my guide )compared to OP players, and frankly, most noobs don't really care about balance. when it comes to smurfing in a 1v1... if you see their noob badge you probably should refuse to play with them. If you feel bad then maybe unrated.

  27. I would say yes! That is a good limit. Also, I think is positive if there are, say, 5 heroes available but you can train only 3 X match. I think that having those limits increase the longevity of the game, because you're forced to make decisions and try different combinations each time

  28. Asian Diplomacy. According to the Book of Sui, Silla and Baekje greatly valued relations with the Kofun-period Wa and the Korean kingdoms made diplomatic efforts to maintain their good standing with the Japanese.[19] The Book of Song reported that a Chinese emperor appointed the five kings of Wa in 451 to supervise military Affairs of Wa, Silla, Imna, Gara, Jinhan and Mahan. Japanese records According to the Nihon Shoki, Silla was conquered by the Japanese Empress-consort Jingū in the third century.[21] However, due to lack of evidence,[22] this story is considered to be mythological in nature. It reported that the prince of Silla came to Japan to serve the emperor of Japan,[23] and lived in Tajima Province. Known as Amenohiboko, his descendant is Tajima Mori.[24] According to Kojiki[25] and Nihon Shoki,[26] Geunchogo of Baekje presented stallions, broodmares and trainers to the Japanese emperor during Emperor Ōjin's reign.[27] Korean records The Samguk sagi (Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms) reported that Baekje and Silla sent their princes as hostages to the Yamato court in exchange for military support to continue their military campaigns; King Asin of Baekje sent his son (Jeonji) in 397,[28] and King Silseong of Silla sent his son Misaheun in 402.[29] Hogong, from Japan, helped to found Silla.[30] According to the Gwanggaeto Stele, Silla and Baekje were client states of Japan. Korea says that part of the stele can be translated in four different ways, depending on punctuation and supplying missing characters.[31] The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences investigated the stele and reported that it reads, "Silla and Baekje were client states of Japan".[32]

  29. Scholar Controversy. The theory of mirrors being made in Japan On the other hand, because of the fact that no mirror similar to the Sankakubuchi Shinjukyo Mirror was ever discovered in China and that some mirrors had the name of eras already changed in China or had nonexistent eras, there are theories that they were made in Japan or produced by the craftsmen that came from China, or they were made in China and loaded on a ship destined to Japan or they were modeled on Chinese mirrors and produced in Japan. Discussion about the Sankakubuchi Shinjukyo Mirror Because Sankakubuchi Shinjukyo Mirrors were discovered mainly in the Kinai region, many researchers advocating the Yamatai-Koku kingdom in the Kinai region maintain Himiko's mirror and many researchers advocating Yamatai-Koku kingdom in Kyushu region maintain the mirrors were produced in Japan. However, some researchers maintaining that the mirrors were produced in Japan advocate Yamatai-Koku kingdom being in the Kinai region. Some of them advocate that the Sankakubuchi Shinjukyo Mirror was produced in Japan by craftsmen and others in the Wu dynasty (Three Kingdom) in celebration of Himiko's dispatch. On the other hand, researchers advocating the Yamatai-Koku kingdom in the Kyushu region consider the all Sankakubuchi Shinjukyo Mirrors were be forged by future generations (though the name of era in Wei dynasty was inscribed on them.) Researchers advocating that the mirror was produced in Japan point out the following questions while those advocating Himiko's mirror disagree. Questions It doesn't chronologically match because Sankakubuchi Shinjukyo Mirror was discovered only in a tumulus after the fourth century, never in tombs after the third century which corresponds to the era of the Yamatai-Koku kingdom. No Sankakubuchi Shinjukyo Mirrors have been discovered in China and Chinese scholars say that it is not Chinese. There is the mirror with the inscription of the name of a Chinese era which didn't exist after the change of the era. Though 100 bronze mirrors were given to Himiko as an imperial grant, many more Sankakubuchi Shinjukyo Mirrors were discovered. Counterargument No Sankakubuchi Shinjukyo Mirrors were left in China because it was specially made for theYamatai-Koku kingdom. The third year of Keisho (239) was the year when the month of the New Year of the fourth year of Keisho was regarded as being after December, which showed it was a time of turmoil. Later, as well, Himiko was given bronze mirrors several times. Against the argument that Sankakubuchi Shinjukyo Mirror was discovered only in tumulus after the fourth century, it consistently shows that this mirror was made in the Wei dynasty because the beginning of the Tumulus period was moved up to the third century and it was discovered in the tumulus chronologically in the third century due to the recent study results of the chronology in annual rings. That mirrors inscribed with 239 and 240 were also made in those years is understandable without question. On the contrary, the theory that this mirror was not related to the Yamatai-Koku kingdom despite the name of the era as maintained by researchers who advocate Yamatai-Koku kingdom in Kyushu region is rather inconsistent. Though there is no crucial evidence to determine whether the Sankakubuchi Shinjukyo Mirror was made in the Wei dynasty or in Japan, it is one of the compelling evidences of the Yamato theory of the Yamatai-Koku kingdom because the mirror inscribed with the years 239 and 240 can be considered to be mirrors from the third century as seen when counting years according to the accepted view of chronology in recent years. There is little doubt that the person who made the mirror wanted to use the name of Wei for some reason.

  38. RTS and ARPGs are if you look beyond the outer shell actually quite similar, basically you zoom in a bit more, change the controls and add a loot, inventroy and character skills system. So I thought it would be a cool idea to use 0 A.D. as a base for a ARPG like Diablo. Besides the mentioned changes to the code, one would have to have higher quality character models and some simple changes to the AI I guess. Most of the enviromental art of 0 A.D. is good enough to even stand up to a closer zoom, so that would give us a great start. Not sure if caves are possible too with the 0 A.D. engine, but otherwise an outdoor RPG would be sufficient I guess Sadly I am no programmer, but if we would find a team to work on this, I would for sure contribute to the 3D art department. Additionally to that, there could be a cool new cooperative game-play type where you can team up with a few friend and play against an RTS like A.I. to defend your home town or such. I don't think something like that has been done before in ARPGs, so that would be cool to try out. We could also stay true to the 0 A.D. roots and try to make a ARPG without magic in a somewhat accurate historical setting. Obviously not totally realistic, but also a nice change to all the Diablo clones So what do you think? Anyone interested in taking up the task of coding this as a mod?

  39. Hi. Yesterday Phillip added some code that allows us to, from the console, view the world from a selected unit. This is awsome, you have to try it. Thankyou Phillip. He also showed me how to bind commands and little scripts to keys, I bound the view-from-first-person's perspective to the key T and it worked great . Now I'm wondering if I can bind diffrent things to the W,A,S,D keys so I can control the unit directly from the first person perspective without using the mouse. I'd like to bind "move forward" to W, "move backwards" to S, and either strafe sideways or turn left/right to A and D (probably want turn as there is no mouselook (yet?)). and some key for attack (enter?) Is anyone else interested in this little modding project. It lets you lead from the front like the ancient generals of old did! An additional idea is being able to change binds in game: if you press T not only does it set your view to first person, it could also change the binds of WASD, and also make it so if you move your mouse to the edge of the screen it doesn't exit first person, but if you press say H or something, then it changes the binds back to normal camara movements for the God perspective mode. I forgot the command that changes the camera as Im not on the home computer right now, but it works great and everything looks good. Another idea that was floated is improving the collision detection to detect walls (as a mode) rather than just the model bounding box. This would allow units to walk around in a building. Simple interiors could even be added to the buildings for fun. If you need to know how to do the various diffrent collision detection algorithims, just ask divverent or Lord_Havok on quakenet irc as xonotic/nexuiz/darkplaces has 4 or 5 diffrent types of collision detection algorithims programmed in to choose from per-model and you could ask them what the algos are. Anyone want to work on this little feature/mod? It's awsome as is to look from the first person perspective, really gets you in the game, and you can command using the mouse, but adding keyboard controls would make it even better (say, via binds)
