Hello, Quick remarks about regicides : Due to the A24 elephant heroes change they are now able to destroy CC during phase 1 on a regicide game. I attach a replay from Dakara to illustrate this point. DakaraRegicideReplay.zip Extra heroes in regicide games : I figured out that some civs can have access to "new" heroes not trainable in normal game. Macedonians 4th and 5th heroes : Kushites 4th hero : Some heroes can start with a horse or without. Example : About balance : Starting with random Heroes providing huge or useless bonus can severely impact the balance of a game (for example compare Indibil and the Kushite hero above) Also starting with a cavalry or infantry or elephant impact the hero safety : Elephant heroes can't be garisoned Infantry and Elephant heroes are easy to snipe. Cavalry heroes can kill all the economy of the opponent at the start of the game. -> In order to balance regicide games: is it possible to provide a similar hero to each civilizations ? For example a cavalry hero with better resistance and less attack than standard cavalry heroes and with no bonuses. And this specific hero don't stop the possibility to train a standard hero during phase 3. This would be even greater if this can be set as a game option, Standard Regicide / Balanced Regicide (Yes random games are still fun)7 points

That is true and false. 0 A.D. is the product of over 20 years of work, and has the advantage that it won't die when the maker company drops support, since there's no maker company. Our 'budget' to make the game is theoretically infinite, and in 100 years hopefully it'll become the absolute best game of all time, no questions asked. But it also means our priorities aren't quite the same as most other games. Short term marketing has little value when we'll still be here in 5 years and players might have moved on. That doesn't mean we don't want it, but time is limited and priorities shift. ---- Anyways, I agree. I do think we could make better use of our social media, and I think we could communicate with content creators etc. better (and I am hearing you-as-a-content-creator specifically). Truthfully, 0 A.D. having an actual 'community' is not that old a thing, and A23 has definitely been on a different level than before with the mod support and all. It sounds a bit weird, but we kinda weren't ready for it. Having a list of content creators to reach out to about releases would be great, and I think it's something that ought to be looked at for the A25 release, which hopefully will be more orderly. The social media itself is trickier. It's not so easy to do since you need to be fairly involved in the community / dev possibly, and it takes time. I don't think we have had too many candidates in the past, but perhaps we've also not been asking all too well.4 points

Hey again ! Thank you for the feedback, I've made the changes. I did swap temple and workshop, but it's good that the buildings speak for themselves nonetheless. I'll tale a break of some days on this to cleance my palate and go back for the second wave. So changelog: New blockouts: Cavalry Stable Archery Range Wall Gate, Wall Section and Wall with Towers. Greathall (new version) Mesh modification: Tower defense as wooden straight base. Scale of houses seems to be an effect of the screenshot, explanation under. Temple was made wider, but I kept the stone circles. It's quite appealing and iconic (if not as accurate) of germanic faith. Also runic stones will be fun to texture. Textures: Added a basic color palette. It's going to help get a feel of the cohesion and help me along the line to map the uv. It may seem to cartoonish/lowpoly stylised but it's a work in progress. The more models/parts I add the more refined this texture will be and then when I'm sure of the final result I will make a uptostandard version via substance. Points of discussion: The workshop has a ram in the concept art. I would very much like to add it, but: I was lazy to get historically accurate references for the type of siege engine of this civ, and I did not find the original mesh of the engine of the celts or gauls. If someone would be so kind to point them to me (references or the mesh). The archery range is a bit empty, and it's the biggest case from the concept art problem. Once modeled to scale they are not as cramped. There is two solutions: add eyecandy in the mesh or bolsterise everything. Note post_render: so I went back to compare and I found that my models are on the realistic scale side. I'll remake them to fit the greater scale of the others civs meshes. The Current work updated: Civic center Houses: To scale with others in engine: Barrack: Great Hall (new '1 floor' version) Tower Defense, version with stone pyramid base and straight wood. The stone version comes from the concept arts of @Obskiuras. Don't know if they were instead meant for late goth civ. Temple ( As I said I kept the stone circle because I like it, but it would be easy to remove if that's the final strong opinion) The walls and gates Workshop (lacking a ram, I still made some wheels. I'm thinking of adding more miscellanious parts to enhance the 'artelier' fell). The stone path for now a mesh, but it will be baked as a decal on the later stages. Stables (horse is for embellishment sake, from a personal model.) ... ok, ignore the wall near the trough, seems to be a mirror mistake. Archery Range The files: suebian_house_wip.rarsueban_buildings_blockout.blend sueban_buildings_blockout.blend3 points

Nice! I guess that this kind of special feel was the initial purpose of having different "civilizations" (even if exaggerating or simplifying history or abstracting "reality").2 points

Perhaps siege engines should be built by soldiers. Either after researching a tech or unlocked by building an Arsenal.2 points

Based on numerous requests, I went ahead and made a mod to add 2 genders to "Citizens" in the game. It is based heavily on my work on Delenda Est. The Two-Genders mod does not change any stats, only converts the "Female Citizen" unit to a unit that uses Female and Male actors. The only civ that keeps Female Citizens is Sparta in this mod. It is compatible with Alpha 24 and can be tested by anyone with that release. If successful, this may be folded into the main game's repo at WFG's leisure and discretion. DOWNLOAD THE MOD HERE, FROM GITHUB.COM: https://github.com/JustusAvramenko/0-A.D.-Alpha-24---Two-Gendered-Citizens I will maintain/curate the mod and commit fixes for any problems you guys may find. Also, if you are familiar with GitHub, feel free to submit Pull Requests to the link above.1 point

Hello everyone! I'm Ratkid, and I recently started messing around with the 0AD Scenario Editor. I found out there is a very limited amount of information and helpful guides online about this feature, so I started a discord where we can connect with each other! This way we can help by answering each other's questions and testing new maps! Everyone is welcome to join the 0 AD Scenario Editor Discord and invite others too join as well with the following link: https://discord.gg/E2UWF2Nk Noob or pro, we can use all the help out there! I look forward to seeing you all there! - Ratkid1 point

Hello This is ouzomezes from the Greek Translation Team Hats off to fellow translators who managed to make a Project Charter and stick to it and so their languages have been implemented to the game. I started translating back in 2016 when I was a student at Uni...now 5 years later almost 27 and getting older...long story short, there is almost no unified plan for the translation ,If you are part of the Greek translation Team ,reach out on Transifex We are all doing this because we want to make this game accessible to as many people as possible and it would be good to be considered for implementation on the next Translation Freeze ( i think it happens every2 years or so) So while I have your attention, is there a way to localize the website, It would help to reach a wider audience before finalizing localizing the game Best of luck1 point

Sorry to be a snitch/not sorry, but there is a limit to things. I ignore this type of unprovoked bigotry and racism in the vast majority of cases. But it's a bit different if it's deemed acceptable for a regular visitor of the Multiplayer Lobby to use the crowded lobby to espouse overt religious extremism, spamming out any normal discussion people might be having, and then out of the blue turns it into a heavy racial rant as well. Read pesem's messages. There's a limit... I want to clarify very clearly that this is only a small part of a much larger rant that went on for a while. It wasn't provoked either. He just joined the lobby and started ranting about how only Jesus can save us. I guess he saw me online, and decided to go all anti-African... What kind of Christianity is that? I had one previous encounter with him, the time before last, when he was ranting even longer about Jesus, and that women in tight dresses were the devil trying to tempt us and blablabla... I asked him if he always does that in the lobby and the ranting became even worse. @Hannibal_Barca eventually muted him this time because he launched personal attacks. But here's my second problem. I originally asked if there were moderators online and @user1 responded. I asked him to ban the account based on the considerable rant he could read for himself, but he just ignored me and left again. The racist ranting continued unabated, and I notified user1 again, and told him that kids play this game. His astonishing answer was that you needed to be at least 13 years old to play, and promptly left again, further ignoring me. The racist ranting continued. So what is he saying? 13 year olds aren't kids? Hardcore racism is perfectly fine in the lobby? I should stop bothering him? How long has this nonsense been going on? Kids play this game... Africans play this game... Other non-supremacists play this game... I don't know if Pesem is a schizophrenic mad man or if he's just a super troll. I honestly don't care. This behaviour should never be tolerated, and I feel embarrassed to have to make a post about this. I'm disappointed that such behaviour is deemed acceptable, and expect this to end. Religious extremism, racism and sexism have no place in a multiplayer lobby where people get banned/muted for way less. I have to deal with Christian extremist neighbours in real life, and faced more racism (actual violence) than anyone should have to in their life. I'm going to throw one hell of a tantrum if I have to tolerate it in the lobby as well. I go there to relax. Not to find out that in fact, I'm a soulless monkey created by satan.1 point

This mod hides territorial borders, by setting the "BorderThickness" to 0.0 Don't forget to turn off GUI (Alt+G), Silhouettes (Alt+Shift+S), FPS (Alt+F), Realtime (Alt+T) and Gametime (F12). redico.pyromod Edit (5/Apr/21) Found a much easier way to hide the borders, should work for all mods and scenarios, if you have multiple mods installed and still see the borders try loading redico after all other mods.1 point

or people greatly overestimate the Alpha state. Or new generations already do not know what an state Alpha is. I've heard people claiming to test 0 AD until I get out of the Alpha State. Just as we have heard people complain about an Alpha as if it were a triple A and how it was a definitive game (1.0 v)1 point

A24 dropped just like every other 0ad alpha release. People just got too used to the status quo, not understanding this is an alpha.1 point

Just to be clear, this thread is not about putting changes into the main game, this is about adding stuff to my personal mod. It's about adding realism and will be a complete rebalance. Also for me personally its realism/strategy > micro. Especially if its worth it putting the effort in.1 point

A simpler approach might just be a matter of limitations. Soldiers could only construct battering rams. Also sappers could have a high base attack against buildings.1 point

Wouldn't mind adding a unique 'engineer' unit trainable at the arsenal. Soldiers could make crappy siege, but engineers of much better quality (attack/def/hp boosts)1 point

Usually siege weapons were built on site, and ammunition probably was improvised based on the available materials the engineers could use. When Demetrius was attempting to besiege Rhodes, he hired a large number of specialists from Asia Minor and imported materials for the construction of his mother of all siege engines.1 point

@wraitii - I totally hear what you're saying. No, I don't believe 0AD with it's limited resources can compete on an even level with a commercial juggernaut that is any iteration of AOE, and for sure, I can see that the dev cycle of A24 was cruel on it's devs. And as I said at the start of this thread, this ain't an A24 bashing. But 0AD does have a long pedigree, you only have to Google it to see it's not some lone indie dev working on a vanity project, it has made a relative impact. And 0AD has one huge asset, it's community. Devs do dev work and they don't get paid, but a far greater number of people play the game, and of those who are very enthusiatic about it write about the game and produce content relating to the game in order to push it further (I do however, refuse to use the term 'influencer!). They also don't get paid. But they'd really appreciate just a little more joined up communication between the two areas. I don't think @wowgetoffyourcellphone's suggestion of a PR/Strategy road map is out of the question. I don't think it would cost anything save the time of the volunteers who take it on (not unlike the devs). And if the people who do the dev work want no part of it, that does not mean it shouldn't happen. It appears there are a number of people who would be very interested in being involved. I'm going to leave this reply with a quote. I'm pretty sure currently one or the other definitely applies to 0AD's community engagement and communication in general, I'm just not sure which;1 point

And here I thought the alpha was part of the brand instead of the version1 point

There's basically three reasons: we don't have the time. Remember that nobody is doing this full time, nor is making any money off it. none of us particularly want to do it ('cause we're mostly developers) to call the A24 chaotic is a massive understatement. The release was nothing short of a miracle. I don't think we actually wanted to communicate too much, in case it ended up being completely buggy or unbalanced for some reason. Yes, communication could have been better with some more planning, and we certainly could use more help. But I think you're mistaken if you think 0 A.D. has even a remote chance to stand against the Age of Empires PR machine. Even Age 2 is much, much bigger than 0 A.D. is. We benefit because more people play RTS games, but we lose some because people prefer those games. 0 A.D. is also still quite laggy, and needs a fair few improvements before I think it's ready for a more mainstream audience. I would push towards dropping the 'alpha' from the name, but that doesn't mean it's quite ready.1 point

Xenophon is fairly vague on what they did with their other equipment. As to range, these were troops using lead projectiles, which generally went a lot further than typical slung stones. Fun fact as well, it was not unheard of to inscribe messages on these. The one to the right could be roughly translated as 'catch.'1 point

The guy is back under "Melusines" username. He exercises the same behavior and rethoric. I've seen many messages in lobby from him attacking various religious, ethnic and race groups (i.e. "I hate muslims", "Serbia", encouraging people to burn Serbia and many others I do not want to type), and usual talks about Jesus. Anyway, I am personally sure It's the same person (Melusines=pesem=other accounts) which would mean multiple accounts and hateful speech in lobby which is break of ToS. (I am reporting here since there is no responsive moderator in a24 lobby and to put stress on the background of the person.)1 point

Thank you very much Stanislas, I really appreciate it! And those weren't even the worst quotes... He actually called us "explicative ebola zombies", and something else about AIDS, for those of you just joining and might be wondering why our lovely friend was removed from the conversation. Thank you to all the people who showed their support in this matter. For those who think that pesem/Glestul's commentary was even remotely acceptable, you need to self reflect. I've had an eye-opening discussion about the difficulties regarding moderation, and will say a word or two about it in the future. Basically, we need the community to help regulate extremism in the lobby, and in the forum. It's an open source project, so we can all help weed out toxic behaviour. If everything falls on the handful of moderators alone, they get overworked and over stressed. The bad people shout louder, so at least the "good" people should try to speak in chorus. We have terms that everybody agreed to. If someone is excessively violating them, try to politely draw their attention to the unwantedness of such behaviour. Don't attack them, don't insult them, just inform them. If the behaviour continues notify a moderator. Most importantly, don't criticize a moderator for taking legitimate action if the offense is well covered by the terms. Just grow up and realize that your words, your actions, and your silence when your voice matters can cause real world damage. Moderators and developers have lost their mind in the past... To the moderators, please don't hesitate, or feel bad to take action against the level of dehumanizing talk that Glestul/pesem demonstrated. This is NOT an edge case, if there are still people who feel that way...1 point
-
Ban Glestul. This is not free speech, this is 4chan level of trolling. I assure you that you don't want this kind of attitude to last in the community. All opinions are tolerated until it is used to insult and dehumanize other persons.1 point

The terms of use are clear. User1's "responses" were insultingly dismissive. I would have never made an issue out of this if Pesem was simply muted or banned for his overt extremism, but he wasn't! He was eventually muted because he simply insulted someone else (not race related). The message was loud and clear. Insulting Africans for soulless satan monkeys is fine. Insulting non-Africans is not. THAT'S my problem... I don't care if moderators receive flack for banning people simply because they wanted to play a multiplayer game with some friends on the same network and I don't care if moderators receive flack for banning or muting people for mild swearwords. There's a lot of edge cases that are dealt with ruthlessly, but hardcore racism, bigotry and sexism.... Nah, that's fine... That's what's shocking to me, and that's the reason I made this post. After asking around a bit, Pesem seems to be a regular, and his behaviour is well known to other players. The previous time I saw him spewing bigoted and sexist rants, there was no disciplinary action whatsoever either. Hence the question: how long has this been going on? This is not an edge case, and as I said earlier, I feel embarrassed and disappointed that this needs to be pointed out. Where I'm from, Hate Speech and Defamation are criminal offenses...1 point
