I wonder if Porus would be an appropriate addition despite his being a king before the formation of the Maurya Empire. He would make a fun historic rival to Alexander.3 points

A desperate effort of a fanatic Muslim that wants you to think veil was normal in Persia before Islam (veil was used in some cases in Persia, Greece and other countries as a symbol of high status but never was a norm and a must wear). Since hijab is very unpopular (yet still forced on women) in Iran, people like him do anything to pretend hijab is normal and a part of the Persian culture. Do your research! See the British museum for yourself to see how Persian women looked like before Arabs invaded them and forced their religion and customs in them by sword.2 points

Working on a possible new INDIA biome for Alpha 25. Biomes I think we should make: Aegean (Greece, Crete, Cyprus, Eastern Turkey) Hellas Acropolis Cycladic Archipelago Crete Aegean Sea Corinthian Isthmus Miletus Penninsula Peloponnesian War Very Large "real world" map closely approximating the lower half of Greece Players are restricted to Greek civs, Macedonians, and Persians Just for fun: The Troiad Similar to Jebel Barkal, a special "Trojan" civ defends against and attacks the players Alpine (Alps, Pyrenees, Dolomites) Cisalpine Gaul Pyrenees Pass Alpine Lakes Alpine Valleys Anatolian (based on Cappadocia and Armenia) Neareastern Badlands Balkan (Illyria, Croatia, Dacia, Thrace) Dacian Highlands Illyrian Coast Baltic (Northern Europe, Scandinavia) Polar Lights Arctic Summer Other "snowy" maps East Asian (China, Japan) Great Wall of China Chang Jiang - European (Gaul, Germany, Britain) Ardennes Forest Teutoburg Forest Gallic Fields Acquitania Belgian Bog Caledonian Meadows White Cliffs of Dover Hadrian's Wall Britannic Road Equatorial Gambia River Ngorongoro (hybrid with Nubian biome) Iberian (Spain, North Africa) Siege of Numantia The first player to capture and hold the Numantine civic center for X amount of minutes wins. The Numantine civic center is heavily fortified on a hill and defended by Gaia-player Iberian units. Cantabrian Highlands Atlas Valleys Numidia Indian (Punjab, Deccan) The Punjab Kerala Deccan Plateau Ganges Valley Kalinga Italian (Italy, Sicily) Latium ( a mix of Italian biome and Alpine biome to approximate the Dolomites Mountains) Sicilian Campaign Etruria (Tuscany) Magna Grecia Vesuvius Corsica and Sardinia Middle Eastern (Arabia, Syria, Phoenicia, Fertile Crescent) Arabian Oases Coele-Syria The Dead Sea Babylonia Palmyra Nabataea Canyons Mongolian (Gobi Desert, the Tarim Basin) Tarim Basin Gobi Desert Nubian (East Africa, Upper Egypt) Nubian Frontier Nuba Mountains The Island of Meroe Serengeti Watering Holes Jebel Barkal Trigger Map Ngorongoro (hybrid with Equatorial biome) Blue Nile Nomads Persia (Iran, Afghanistan, Hindu Kush) Median Oasis The Persian Gates Persepolis This map alternates between a "living" version of Persepolis or a ruined version of the city and its surrounding lands Bactriana Zagros Mountains Hyrcania (hybrid map) Caspian Sea (hybrid map; northern part is Steppe biome) Saharan (Sahara Desert, Egypt) Nile River Nile Cataracts Crocodilopolis Siwa Oasis Elephantine Garamantine Frontier Steppe (the Eurasian Steppe) Scythian Steppe River Oxus And then we should seriously curate the random maps to focus them to the game's theme. We don't have to get rid of a bunch of them, but we can move those out of theme maps to a separate menu.2 points

Hello and welcome to the forums! Thanks for pointing this out! 0 A.D. is a work in progress, far from perfect, and containing numerous inaccurracies. Artists have to work from what they know, and if they don't have suitable source material, they have to invent something. A few questions, though: Where exactly in Persepolis is this image taken from? Is the displayed person really Persian? Is it really a woman? Achaemenid imperial iconography portraits dozens of nationalities, each with different clothing, therefore more context would be helpful.2 points

I think it would be nice to have an assortment of smaller round shields for Cretan Archers and basic Javelin dudes and such. Right now, the standard Mace pelte shields are angled too far backward to use for any unit except pikemen. Below: On the left, I have attempted to use the basic pikeman pelte shield model for Theban skirmishers, but there is bad clipping. On the right, Cretan Archers with ugly outdated bucklers. Would be great to have some generic small and medium shields, player color, wood, and bronze, and then those same shields with basic round bosses. The medium ones could have variants with short spinas/vertical bosses for cavalry units (Tarantine, etc.). This would also be a great time to update the Roman and Iberian cavalry shields and bucklers. Then it would be great to have some specifically Cretan Archer patterned shields as well for the buckler sized model:1 point

Team color can be put on where there is red/crimson: face paint, hair tie, and armor trim and straps. Since the units will be mostly based on Nakanishi's art, decided to revise the ranks. Tunics can be white or light brown (from that lone axeman). Militia swordsman/axeman and two-handed spearman: Basic: No armour, can wear tunic or topless, basic wooden shield Advanced: Basic wooden breastplate and shield (could be painted, latter for swordsman) Elite: Face paint (optional), mokusei katchū and large painted shield with metal sun disc (swordsman), wooden cuirass (spearman) Militia archer/hunter: Basic: No armour, either long-sleeve, short-sleeve, or sleeveless tunic, and either pants or no pants Advanced: Add a basic or thin wooden breastplate Elite: Short- or long-sleeved tunic, optionally wear leather coat, painted or unpainted thin wooden breastplate Bell bearer: same as illustration, mokusei katchū Champion (two-handed) spearman and "swordsman"/axeman: same as illustrations, long-sleeved tunic, optional leather coat, black mokusei katchū or thin painted breastplate with shoulderpads, medium painted wooden shield My proposed unit roster has not yet been revised to reflect the changes though, will do so at a future time. There's still the Yamatai illustrations and raiding spearmen at the first page of thread.1 point

I'd say, let wowgetoffyourcellphone do his thing, and let's support him in every way we can. I know I'll be doing my part by hitting that "like" button every time he posts something new! Who knows I might actually attempt modeling some new assets again... Can never have enough quality assets... If alpha 24's Atlas actually supports mac properly I might even try to do a map myself.1 point

It's also not just about adding some good looking new terrain textures to vanilla, we have to get rid of the textures that are no longer acceptable. We will also have to redesign a lot of maps to use the new terrains, because a real revamp won't be a one for one replacement of the old terrains. New biomes will need to be designed and the maps adjusted to them. Lots of work. Doable in a year though and completely worth it. It'll make 0 ad look like a real AAA game.1 point

Get used to it dude. You are gonna have to go through the same thing when you finish your thesis. Literally everyone in academia is skeptical of everything. Assume it's wrong until proven correct.1 point

Ironically we should technically never depict royal women in the game since they would always be stuck inside the buildings.1 point

I agree. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwi1wJOZzJDqAhV5QjABHf5tDAEQFjAYegQIARAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fscholarsarchive.byu.edu%2Fcgi%2Fviewcontent.cgi%3Ffilename%3D18%26article%3D1016%26context%3Dmi%26type%3Dadditional&usg=AOvVaw3mA7XWXsOyPghvThoT8qDf1 point

Basically, the excerpt from Iranica Online sum it up well. There are plenty of variation and use in their clothing according to their social ranks or the context. The wikipedia page about the veil gives other indications: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veil So I don't think the current depiction of Persian women is that wrong. Maybe we can enhance it and diversify it.1 point

It is curious because other depictions suggest otherwise: https://www.jstor.org/stable/24048288?seq=1#metadata_info_tab_contents I think the relief is depicting something else: https://www.robertharding.com/preview/724-2550/medes-arachos-priests-tachara-palace-darius-exclusive-building/ https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:Persepolis_Relief_Priests.jpg https://www.flickr.com/photos/dynamosquito/25276813461 point

‘A Total War Saga: Troy’ studio tries to solve historical accuracy issues https://micky.com.au/a-total-war-saga-troy-studio-historical-accuracy/ Mmm... I have no issue with a fantasy game. I have an issue with a game that pretends to be historical or an accurate representation while not doing really the effort.1 point
