  4. To de-activate a mod, you can follow this (pretty simple) alternative way. Locate a configuration file on your computer named user.cfg. This page will help you locating this file, depending on the Operative System you use. Open the user.cfg file with a text editor and look for a line starting with mod.enabledmods. Delete the name of mods that give you troubles from this line. Save user.cfg and restart 0 A.D. Not all mods are cross-compatible. It might be that you have installed two (or more) mods that don't work well together.

  10. ERROR: Could not load biome file 'generic/tropic' I think this bug from the ancient American empires mod? Found some more bugs, though not sure whether the first one is or not: Isn't the lenca spearman supposed to be trained from the embassy? And Huun Balam has made it so his chair floats after death; truly the chosen of the gods! Oh yeah, what happened to the civic centre variations? Alot of other variations for other structures have disappeared as well

  11. Hello! Longer leader names get cut off in the diplomacy window: This is not restricted to the Millennium mod, and further tests showed that names get cut off after 17 characters. See test dummy name "12345678901234567890": MS Windows path for civs incl. leader names: ..\binaries\data\mods\public\public.zip\simulation\data\civs The longest name I found (in the "Millennium" mod, though), is "Æthelwald Moll of Northumbria", which is 29 characters long. Leaders from other civs in the 0 A.D. base game, e.g. "Hasdrubal the Boetharch" (cart) or "Demetrius II Aetolicus" (mace) have long names of >17 characters, too. Maybe the diplomacy window column with the names could be made wider (e.g. for 36 characters max.?) to accommodate for longer civ leader names. Where in the source code is this diplomacy window defined? If I knew, I could try to provide some amendment. Thanks for pointing me into the right direction! PS: It must be this: binaries/data/mods/public/gui/session/diplomacy/DiplomacyDialog.xml <object name="diplomacyHeaderName" size="0 0 140 100%" type="text" style="DiplomacyText" ghost="true" text_align="center"> <translatableAttribute id="caption">Name</translatableAttribute> </object> Adjusting the 140 (and the following columns' widths) should hopefully do the trick. I will check...

  13. My main problem with cav is that they don't die even when they should (i.e. running straight through inf and fighting spears head on). I think that is a direct result of their speed (ability to escape fights and to get to fights quickly) and their health (they might get hit once when running through a pocket of men but then keep running so the damage doesn't do enough to kill them). As a result, I don't mind that cav do extra dmg. Making inf, specifically spears faster, would be a step in the right direction. (I think spears and swords should be faster anyways bc of their lack of range). I would rather change health than armor because that ensures an even change across all units as opposed to just hack or pierce units. Otherwise, a -1 nerf to both hack and pierce might result in one type of attack becoming relatively stronger. Also promotions make extra HP a snowball problem.

  14. I have a problem with cav raids. Many top level 1v1s are dominated by cav spam and the game ends (or is all but already determined) before players ever make it to p2 or p3. I think this is undesirable. Skirm cav is OP, but I also have a problem with archer cav (probably the best unit in the game right now when used correctly), and sword cav too. A mass of any of those units wins games and spearmen inf can't counter those units. In short, I don't think the game should purely be cav spam, which is without a doubt the best strategy right now.

  15. Isn't sword cav's ability to do this one of the complaints against it? So we wouldn't want to transfer that complaint to spear cav, right? That's part of why we want to nerf sword cav? Sorry I keep disagreeing today. But I oppose this because any non-siege crush units (elephants, clubmen) would become very ineffective. Defense is already strong enough with ungarrison-ambushing, in my opinion.

  17. if swordcav and spearcav have the same armor, (4 pierce versus 4 pierce, most damage is pierce) and swordcav have more attack, then they are the better unit for general purpose. If spearcav is only better than swordcav against other cav, then it is an inferior unit. Please also consider that despite the buffs given to spearcav they still have a hard time beating skirmcav in larger numbers because of their low pierce armor. Giving spearcav better armor than swordcav would account for them having less damage and create situations where one is better than the other. Current spearcav situation: you have less armor AND less damage, but in return you get the great benefit of barely beating swordcavalry and still losing to skirmcavalry. No, its obvious spearcav need a stat boost.

  18. I’m in favor of an across the board cav nerf. In my opinion, they’re too strong relative to inf. I think a speed and/or HP decrease would do the trick. The problem is particularly obvious when a group of 10 cav run right through a group of 10 inf and all cav survive. Another (bigger) problem OC example is when a mass of sword cav fight spears straight in and easily win. I actually don’t have problems with Han having sword cav in p1. People mostly have problems defending it because they refuse to make spear. That is the players fault, not the game’s. Once cav is actually balanced vs inf, that will help too

  36. A better version: It was drawn by Giuseppe Rava => https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100051111677742 Sadly this is one of his worst illustration. Probably due to a lack of advices and a lack of knowledge about the material. Yes the winged helmet is a weird interpretation from the early 19th century when people thought that the cheek-guards of helmets were metallic supports for decorative wings... that's why you can see it on some statues depicting Vercingetorix and Ambiorix. The bronze cuirass is also something from the Hallstatt C period (800–620 BC), totally anachronistic with the rest of the items. Giuseppe Rava made a better one recently, thanks to the advice of François Gilbert, a French reenactor:

  37. Unfortunately, the reset AoM may contain the infamous "Tale of the Dragon" expansion, not just the titans, I hope Microsoft doesn't just simply hd the game, but the failed material Reboot the slice or simply delete it. To be honest, I would prefer Microsoft to join Persian mythology, it would be interesting to have Mithras, Anahita, Ahura Mazda as the main gods.

  41. By 2600 BC, the Mayans had weaponized bees or wasps.15 The Mayan language does not distinguish these insects, although we might presume that wild bees were used, given that the Mayans had domesticated a stingless species that would not have been of much use in battle. The sacred text, Popul Vuh, tells of the people building dummy warriors topped with headdresses to conceal both the inanimate condition and the real purpose of the manikins. The heads were hollow gourds filled with stinging insects. When attackers smashed the gourds, the insects retaliated, precipitating a chaotic retreat that allowed the Mayans to annihilate the would-be invaders. In addition to bee-based booby traps, ancient texts suggest that the Mayans used bees in open battle. The details of this armament are not clear, but given their pottery skills and what we know of other cultures, we can infer that they devised the "bee grenade." At about this time, some people in the Middle East were molding special containers from clay that were heavy enough to throw and fragile enough to burst upon landing. The shell casings were set outside to be colonized by bees or hornets. When a fight was in the offing, warriors plugged the openings with wads of grass to contain the insects while allowing air into the colony.16 Such "pots of pain" could be readily carried into combat and conceivably thrown quite effectively at an enemy cornered in a draw or otherwise conveniently grouped on the battlefield. https://www.fossilhunters.xyz/ants-2/bee-bombs-and-wasp-warheads.html mirror. https://archive.is/QR1pV

  42. Do we know when the Atlatl spear thrower was imported to the Maya city states? I think it would make for a good unique ranged unit for both the Maya and Zapotecs if its in the time period. Also do we have dates for when the maya bee grenades came about?

  44. I know this is probably very difficult to simulate, but wouldn't it be awesome to add a burning animation to buildings when they are taking fire damage. The size could scale with the damage rate of the fire.
