Hey everyone, I am writing this post to let you know I will become mostly unavailable in the three coming weeks starting Tuesday. "All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to us." It's an opportunity for me to regain some of the energy to keep working on this project and to rest in general. I'll be at the open source experience in November in Paris and at the CDL in Toulouse so they will be my only 0ad-related tasks Social Media might be a bit silent too for a while. If you see people having issues there, don't hesitate to help/direct them to the forums. I count on everyone of you to help make A27 a success and to be nice when I'm gone, and I hope to see you all soon. See you soon folks,3 points

The crossbow mentioned here may pontentially fit the Yayoi period, the dating is not very clear. http://gunbai-militaryhistory.blogspot.com/2019/01/dokyu-japanese-crossbow.html This link mentions something about a crossbow trigger possibly dating to that period as well. https://www.massey.ac.nz/~bjmoyle/dbm/b3/p07.htm3 points

Immortals now have 2 weapon modes. I would like to be able to choose which version is the default version. Would that be fair? Any disagreement?3 points

I agree. It’s a problem. But it’s “necessary” this alpha because of the Han farm upgrade issue. I don’t expect this to exist going forward.2 points

Had no mods installed at all, however - removing ~/.local/share/0ad worked out. Seems some file in there was messing things up. Thank you!2 points

Agreed. More armor or more health, functionally the same. Health is easier to intuit for the player, while armor is more "realistic." Also, Chariots should have a trample aura. Both should be able to fire while moving, the Archer Cav after a tech, while Chariot has it from the beginning.2 points

I mean choose what they are trained as. So you can choose whether they come out as archer-mode or spear-mode when they emerge from the Apadana or Cyrus' shadow. And then when you select the immortal unit you can switch weapon as you can currently. They are best used as archers now since their health and defense is so low, but if your base is being raided by cavalry you may want them to emerge as spearmen.2 points

in AoE Iv i was watching a spanish video and anti cavalry melee type units can stun a cavalry unit. what it means is that cavalry even if they have more mobility, they can be trapped by a spear. the video says it's a skill to increase the riskiness of the hit and run.2 points

G A R A M A N T I A N S Repository: https://github.com/0ADMods/garamantians This topic is aimed at receiving references and ideas about the Garamantian civilization. References about architecture, names of kings and queens, in addition to units (the chariots of war: D) will be welcome. @m7600 is free to comment and help whatever you want, I believe that the Numidians already have their topic, we can comment on them there. I am willing to help in whatever way possible as well.1 point

Very good, in addition to the observations I sent you in the personal messages, can we see a cc a little more traditional for them? Maybe a palace or administrative center, I know it existed but I'm out of references now.1 point

If this game was going to be realistic there would need to be fewer units, most would be able to switch between two weapons, with major differences between civilizations. As it is, two different units often represent different roles or actions that the same soldiers would have in real life. With this system the 'rock-paper-scissors' system is an important part of strategy, and I like the general pattern Wow lays out, though I'd do some details differently.1 point

Oh, I was going to say the other way around lol. Mainly because the spartans have no limit on olympic champions and they already cost 2 pop.1 point

I didn't put the .json file because it spoils the duration of the game, also I didn't close the game immediately after it's over so the summary would not be representative.1 point

It is worth considering that it is easy to download and that the community was already somewhat split by those skill levels anyway. It would be nice to add some kind of news rundown in the lobby that advertises some recent changes in the mod, @guerringuerrin was manually doing this by hosting a game with such a title, but I think one made automatically in the lobby chat would be great.1 point

I could do it, if community is not too rough if changes they don't like get merged My plan would be to leave 5 days - 1 week of discussion for merge requests then merge if opinion is not very negative. (for the community: please remember it's easy to undo a change!) Btw I think balance could get in much better shape if one competent person was in charge and made most of the changes. Because, only a small amount of proposals can get in if all of them need a real consensus making everyone happy, and the gameplay has very little changes. I think I have good grasp on balance and could fill the role.1 point

100% too long. 3-5 seconds is where it should be.1 point

For the weapon switching mechanism? I don't know. I don't think the game has been played long enough for a real opinion to form on this. With that said, I suspect yes. Although, like Philip said, use of spears is really a niche function with limited use right now.1 point

By the way, is 8 seconds too long?1 point

I see that you've changed the poll response choices to "yes" or "no". For the record, here is a screenshot of the original poll response choices. Did you change it voluntarily or because an admin forced you to? Or, both? Or, other? See, there are more than two possibilities... I'm still boycotting the poll. I understand the word "smurf" to mean someone who is lying about their skill and using an unknown account in order to disrupt balance during game formulation. I object to calling everyone on that list a "smurf".1 point

off topic: I imagine what the Spaniards would feel with the Mapuches already in the 16th/17th century, war is much more than weapons and technologies, but also morality, knowledge of local geography and logistics.1 point

The sun goddess of Japan, the main god in popular mythology in early Japan and after the Meiji Restoration (the dominant religion in medieval Japan was Buddhism, which covered the influence of native Japanese mythology to a certain extent).1 point

No, this is completely wrong, the text below the relic states that this is a bronze ge, "中广形铜戈".1 point

Yes, I mean the ge is a weapon that is similar to an axe, both long and short, and is often used to hit the head and shoulders of enemies, even if they are protected by a shield. There is a Shang Dynasty tomb in China. The owner of the tomb was a warrior, and the Tianling cover of his body was left with fragments of Ge, which proves that it is very common for such weapons to be used to attack the top of the enemy's head.1 point

I don't decide the she-wolf in which pose. and whether or not to include the twins.1 point

You might be right. But I am not sure--traders can be very powerful if you can survive the first enemy push. I would personally suggest doing one of the other first and then seeing how balance is.1 point

Thank you very much, I hope I can reach a level that at least they can be added to Terra Magna. I still have to think about technologies and civ bonuses related to the trading of caravans from the Sahara and the water catchment systems they had. If anyone has access to any name of the real garamantina it would help me a lot, if not names of rulers of ancient Libya (I believe that there must be records from the 8th century BC in Egypt, but I don't want something so out of time.1 point

I was thinking of these how wonderful what do you think? (This idea was put forward by Sundiata) The biggest issue will be the units that I have to make shields, some helmets and textures. I want to give them a standard range of 3/1 libios and berebers with Africans further south. I saw it in a text about the misery in Garama burials (I'll see if I can find the link later).1 point
