Mainland balanced is a very good map, but I suggest to create a variation called balanced plainland which has no cliffs at all. Even better, no height differences at all, it should be perfectly plain, thats why it is called plainland. The balance could be even improved by making the map rotational symmetrical, so every player has the same starting conditions as every other player (if you divide balanced mainland into 8 "pieces of cakes", each piece looks different. If you would divide balanced plainland into 8 pieces of cake, they would all look the same, which creates an excellent balance)2 points

Please try again. This should work now. Sorry for the inconveniences.2 points

Giving just one extra cav without penalties would be a big advantage over other civilizations. Perhaps removing one spearmen then in place of two women might make it more balanced. having two starting horses can make you aggressive at the beginning of the game but having one less soldier can be a big disadvantage to defend yourself.2 points

I like the gear map very much. The only issue with it is that it encourages turtling and the border player is incapacitated instantly if their neighbour gets a warship before them.1 point

This is a good idea. Isn't the gear map very highly symmetrical in this way (except, of course, it has water)?1 point

In English, I suggest those articles: Dating Caral, a Preceramic Site in the Supe Valley on the Central Coast of Peru Radiocarbon dates from the site of Caral in the Supe Valley of Peru indicate that monumental corporate architecture, urban settlement, and irrigation agriculture began in the Americas by 4090 years before the present (2627 calibrated years B.C.) to 3640 years before the present (1977 calibrated years B.C.). Caral is located 23 kilometers inland from the Pacific coast and contains a central zone of monumental, residential, and nonresidential architecture covering an area of 65 hectares. Caral is one of 18 large preceramic sites in the Supe Valley. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/12010372_Dating_Caral_a_Preceramic_Site_in_the_Supe_Valley_on_the_Central_Coast_of_Peru The Evolution of Social Institutions in the Central Andes The chapter traces the evolution of complex socio-political institutions in the Andes from their appearance in the north coast of Peru at the end of the 4th millennium BCE to the sprawling Inca Empire of the fifteenth century CE. For each period, the author describes the kinds of social institutions that developed among the varied societies of this vast region. The evolutionary process centers on monumental architecture requiring coordinated labor. After two millennia of complex social development, state societies emerged by coopting trade networks and barter fairs. The states focused on the control of roads and strategic colonies throughout their region. An elite style of architecture and statecraft was based on earlier, nonstate political, and economic institutions. These grew slowly and lasted for at least a half a millennium. State collapse was followed by political and social realignments, the context for the rapid growth of the Inca Empire in the fifteenth century. Unlike the first states, the Inca Empire was characterized by contiguous provinces and an imperial bureaucracy that administered dozens of distinct ethnic groups and provinces. The earlier relationships between trade, production, and distribution were coopted by the Inca into a grand imperial strategy of population concentration and the creation of industrial enclaves. The rapid rise of the Inca was followed by its relatively quick political collapse at the hands of European invaders. https://docdro.id/EpB1Td1 And this thesis: Caral and the rise to civilization in the Norte Chico Peru The site of Caral, Peru has undergone much archaeological excavations under the direction of Dr. Ruth Shady over the course of the years following 1994. Caral has been radiocarbon dated to over five thousand years ago. It has been proposed by some scholars, Dr. Shady included, that the site of Caral and the surrounding sites in the Supe Valley represent a state level society. However, there is a general consensus in the literature holding that Caral does not represent a highly stratified society such as a state. In order to gain a better understanding of what Caral really represents, this thesis compares Caral to two known state level societies, the Moche and Tiwanaku states. The comparison is based on a number of key factors seen in state levels societies namely, site size and distribution, monumental architecture, craft specialization, iconography and burial stratification. https://minds.wisconsin.edu/handle/1793/665721 point

I can't reproduce it right now. Could you describe the situation more or give a replay please?1 point

I don't think an extra cav will be that big of a deal in team games, but you're probably right for 1v1s. I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean Persia would start with 2 cav, 1 spear, 2 archers, and 4 women? I tested that a little bit and it seems fine at first glance. It does seem like it will create some unique build orders, which I think is your goal and would be nice. It also creates a nice defense tradeoff like you mention.1 point

@woodpecker @sarcoma you can temporarily cut and paste the old replays into another folder. The names of the replays are based on the date they are played, so something like 20220607_0002 means the second game on the 7th of June 2022.1 point

Thanks @woodpecker and @sarcoma. The idea of filtering/weighting replays according to the date has been brought to attention multiple times (for example by @seeh and @BreakfastBurrito_007) and seems to be a must-have. I guarantee this will be implemented in a future version of the LocalRatings mod. Besides a new match filter that takes into consideration the replay date, I am imagining a customizable "weighting function" that assigns a weight of 1 to the most recent replay and slowly decreases back in time, according to user-given parameters. Thinking out loud, such function could be linear, logarithmic, a step function or even we can let the user choose among multiple possibilities. If any of you has thoughts / references / expertise feel free to give a comment. PS: thanks to all of you who are proposing new ideas, @real_tabasco_sauce, @Sevda and @rossenburg among others. I am happy to see that the LocalRatings mod has raised interest in many players. Although I am not responding to all comments, I am taking all suggestions and their feasibility into consideration.1 point

The more I think about this, the more I like the idea. I like the idea of a roving siege unit that can be a CC killer. But I'm really unsure if the values are right--in particular, I am concerned it can't be countered by other cav. But I'd like to test it out in a game if anyone else is willing.1 point
