  1. Hello everyone, I think it's time I reveal a "secret project" I've been working on occasionally: a “Grand Strategy” campaign mod for A25. Because our UI is flexible, and because campaign data is just JSON, we can do quite a lot in terms of modding. My intention here is to do something somewhat similar to Rise of Nations' Conquer the World campaign, though with some twists. The code is over at the github repo: https://github.com/wraitii/0ad_grand_strat . If you want to help out, the easiest is to make PRs or issues over there. The end-game is to merge something back for A26 or later, depending on advancement. As you can see, the mod is currently unfinished: it's technically playable, and some of the core mechanics are there, but it needs a ton of polish and quite a few features (& well, testing) before it's properly done. Though at the moment new core code in 0 A.D. itself isn't necessary, some things might be easier to do there. Screenshots: You can download a .pyromod from GitHub. Changelog:

  2. There's a pretty interesting RTS game on Kickstarter right now, Liquidation. It looks like a cross between Warcraft, Starcraft and Warhammer 40,000. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/liquidation/liquidation-a-rts-rpg-hybrid/description I backed it, and hope they get funded! We really need more quality RTSes like in the golden age of the genre. PS: In case it's not allowed to post links to kickstarter here, please let me know and I'll remove the link.

  3. I like your mod...love the music too... ...I have been playing like for 5 months now, and decide to make a scenario too.. At first, It was design for 8 players, but issues with the population, and the game freezing, forced me to make it for 5 players instead, with the other factions becoming buffer states...As you, I am also working on a scenario base on the map of Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. I have named O AD Empires at War... Hopefully it will be published soon.. here is how is looking so far.

  4. Personally that all sounds like a good thing to me. It makes the prospect of setting up defences to be a way of delaying potentially key upgrades. That means that there is the potential for a meaningful choice.

  6. Hey everyone, With the game in Commit Freeze, it's extremely unlikely that there will be incompatible changes, so if you had not kept up with SVN, you can definitely look into porting your mods to A25 now. We've maintained a wiki page listing some of the major changes affecting modders this time around: PortA24ToA25. Note that there have been major changes to notably UnitAI & to the GUI gameSetup. Depending on what your mod did, you might find it easier to start from the A25 files instead of trying to update your older files. Let us know if you run into difficulties.

  7. Uploaded a quick update to smooth some things out. Now the AI won't always be sandbox, there's a few more enemy civilisations, and you can pick your civilisation & starting province (+ you can scroll around the map if you move the mouse to the border).

  8. there are several things that do, and they suit the game well. the game is quite balanced for now. but I need keep testing. We need more Iberian cavalry units, I need to consult with the community. probably for A26.

  9. @mysticjimCould you update the first post with the new test versions? Got people downloading the old versions and causing OOS and confusion when trying to playtest. Thanks.

  10. My inspiration would be Dawn of War "Dark Crusade" and "Soulstorm" grand campaigns. The empires have different territories and the capital If you conquer the capital, you win a special bonus and disables the ability of that enemy to move and attack Capital scenarios have special features and objectives, and usually are hard and scrippted. Additionally, there' could be neutral territories with some civs that doesn't belong to any empire, but you have to still conquer them. Nice job!

  11. I am going to make suggestions, I don't know if they are contemplated. List of suggestions. the mode for now can be boring only one type of scenario. there should be a siege mode and an invasion mode. i will explain the details later. capture marvel mode in some provinces. A brief of the mode for now I assume there are only a few factions in play or to select and play. I guess it's too obvious and you should already know that. territories must have visible names. zoom mode (zoom in, zoom out). the economic part is not available yet, the diplomatic part is not available either, for now there is only one possible character to move. for the same reason there is no diplomacy yet. it would be excellent to manage more territories. save and load mode.

  12. Here is the first 'Release Candidate' of Alpha 25 - Yaunā We've entered Commit Freeze, which means we only now fix Release Blocker issues that we might yet find. As of now, there are 2 pending commits about minor things. We've heard of some OOS reports, so please read the instructions below carefully on how to efficiently report those. Downloads - Current bundles are for SVN revision 25799 Linux data and build MacOS Windows Things to note: Translations are not complete & may be buggy -> Play in English for now. Mind your mods -> they might introduce issues or Out Of Sync. Save your A24 config file somewhere, ideally. Notable changes since the last bundle: Increase to elephant & ram turn rates to help movement We've switched the mod key to A25 so the mod downloader will show nothing A number of small UI/code fixes Currently known issues: We have reports of Out of Sync errors: please read below. We have reports of issues with the replay filter, but haven't been able to confirm There are a few others that shouldn't affect play much, see the Milestone for details. What to do if I have an error or notice something weird? Post your commands.txt (replay) and the interestinglog.html file from your folder. You can also reply to this thread. What to do if the game crashes? Update your crashlog.dmp and crashlog.txt see https://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/GameDataPaths What to do if I have an Out Of Sync? You should go in your logs folder, find the replay (commands.txt at least), the mainlog/interestinglog and find the OOS dump folder. Zip all these files and upload them here. We need the reports from two players to compare them: One OOS and one non-OOS players at least should upload their oos_dump files. Things you may want to test (non-exhaustive) Launch a random game Launch a skirmish. Connect to the lobby Play on the lobby with someone Launch Atlas and try things out there Open Unit tests demo (To see if there any breakage in displaying entity's) (It's in scenarios) Enable feedback and see if it works (Main menu) https://videos.pair2jeux.tube/videos/watch/ca45fa29-c120-487e-af9c-cf52020666ab Connect to and use mod.io Test replaying new games Test Screenshots (F2) Test Big Screenshots (Maj+F2) Test hotkeys Test Saving and loading a game. Test Quickload/Quicksave And of course playing games.

  15. I just wanted to mention that I'm not happy with p2 towers not counting towards the phase-up prerequisites anymore. It's a considerable investment, especially since stone is back in the tech upgrades cost. Also they usually have more practical worth for me in p2 than the blacksmith (which I usually don't use until p3). #towerscount

  17. As a kid I thought Red Alert 2 Yuri's revenge was super cool. After I got into competitive gaming and was used to hotkeys and returned to Red Alert 2, I felt the controls where horrible. With RA3, it was reverse. I felt like how can you do all the things a player ideally wants to do. When returned later and was used to hotkeys, it suddenly felt good. If I think about complex games as Knights&Mercenaries or the stronghold series, where you need to manage your village, because if your food runs out it is trouble. The thing what new players can do, is only focus on the few features which are absolutely needed(getting food and the easiest units) instead of all features.

  18. @Gurken Khan Nope, real bug indeed. You have to be paused to trigger it, and you have to change a file (which saving does). Will be fixed for release.

  21. The current problem with Bellum mod is the new units added don't have their own actor and their icons were made by me, so they are crass. We will ask artists to make better models and icons for the Soliffereum and other champion units. Also we haven't got full agreement from the strongest players yet. Most of the features were suggested by lion.kanzen and most liked posts on the forum.

  26. First impressions: - looks beautiful - is there even less wood on 'Phoenician Levant'? meeeh - I thought gatherers would stay counted; if you look at the replay you'll see my horse being on and off the count - when I pause and save everything disappears from the map??? 29. Yes indeed, as has already been mentioned, it is the Newbie Rush Observation and Commentary (NROC) mod, created by the absolute genius - @Langbart - and building on some of the darn fine work done historically by @ffm2 and @nani Without it, I think it's fair to say that 0AD Newbie Rush wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun to watch, and I'd be well and truly shafted!

  35. The map and terrain overhaul will come with some new and updated maps, some ported from Delenda Est. Perhaps 10-12 new or updated skirmish maps will showcase how the completed map overhaul will revolutionize the look of the game. Work continues.

  36. Terrain Overhaul has begun for A25 (terrains successfully ported over from Delenda Est to A25 dev version, locally): The current idea is to release the new terrains with A25, and have all the old terrains exist alongside the new terrains for 1 development cycle (A25 released-A26 release), so that map makers and modders (and WFG) can have a whole dev cycle to retrofit their existing maps. Then the old terrains would be eliminated at the A26 release. A26 would include a script to help anyone port over any other maps they may have to the new set of terrains (the switching will be rough approximations).

  38. About Gobanion, I have chosen it because of Gobannium, the ancient name of Abergavenny. Although, it could be related to a 'smith divinity (Gofannon in Welsh, the equivalent of Vulcan) which makes the thing complicated. Uxelon is a personal reconstruction but it is really made-up. I simply used the root Uxel-/Uxello- we see in place-names like Uxellodunum. In modern languages, it gives uchel in Welsh, uasal in Irish and uhel in Breton. The problem in this case is that the word tower in modern Celtic languages are all borrowed from Latin (turris), even through English (tower comes from turris). Antosolicon is also a made-up reconstruction with -soli-/-suli- related to the sight and the eyes. It uses also the root anto- which is plausibly related to a kind of limit, although it could be both a physical or a metaphysical limit so... maybe a better candidate should be randa or randon as we find it in Camminoranda and Equoranda, plausibly at the territorial limits of civitates. Eposton for the stable, with an inspiration from Celtiberian boustom which is basically the roof of the cows/oxen. Miletucerdon is a made-up reconstruction with Miletu- for destruction and Cerdon for artisan/craftsman. Celicnon is problematic, but it is a proposal from Delamarre and Savignac: https://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/celicnon I choose Celicnon for the wonder because it is based on the sanctuary of Corent which was a place of gathering and feasting and not only a religious place. Since Delamarre and Savignac proposed it is a feasting-place, I took the opportunity even if it is a contested hypothesis. Remogantion is for a unique building based on a theatron-like building found in Corent as well. It is interpreted as an assembly or a senate since Caesar mentioned those in his account. Although it should be maybe Remocantion, from Remo- (first, prince) and -cantion from the tribe Cantiacii. Cantio- has similarities with Old Irish céite, a word for an assembly. I don't know why I wrote gantion instead of cantion. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Reconstruction:Proto-Celtic/kantyos Cranogion is an uninspired made-up word from Cranog because I didn't find anything that would be the equivalent in Gaulish. Obviously it cames from Irish crann, but then it would be prenn in other P-Celtic languages. The problem is that the Crannog reference comes from Ireland and Scotland which falls in a difficult topic from a linguistic view of the ancient times (pre-roman Iron Age). For the wonder called Emain Macha, I have nothing to do with this name. I hope it helps. Final edit: words for the wall and the palissade are missing. The wall should be rate (ráth, ráith in Irish) but the palissade...

  39. Well, that thread gives a sample player's attitude against the Auto-queue: "Oh look! You now have the computer to manage your economy instead of yourself. How NooB / lazy of you." I also don't have a problem with the auto-queue feature. The fact that I love 0 A.D.'s removal of manually seeding fields makes me consistently like auto-queue. It's one of my fave features in Battle Realms, too. Gameplay-wise, you don't generally have your buildings auto-queue until you're confident in your economy.... something you want to think less of in the mid to late game. The only thing I want to worry about economy in the mid-game is the enemy raiding them.
