wowgetoffyourcellphone
Any new love going the camels' way? I think the camel mesh and unit animations could use a revamp after @Alexandermb's very successful work on the cavalry. It would be excellent to have both Arabian and Bactrian camels: 1 and 2 hump. Then we can work on the rider textures and props to look more authentic. Right now they're just based on Persian units. 2

wowgetoffyourcellphone
If camels were improved, I'd add more camel units to DE. 2

What type of units would be, spear, javelin, sword or archer camelry?
wackyserious
@Lion.Kanzen and I had a previous discussion about the appearance of the Nabatean camel archers. More references would be great.
Sundiata
The only image I'm familiar with, showing Nabataean camel archers fighting a Persian, I believe an Assyrian horse archer. Thorfinn the Shallow Minded
I have never heard of Mauryans employing camels in military. The Seleucids seem to have at one point: the Battle of Magnesia, but they only deployed five hundred Arab camel archers, making it unlikely that they employed them in large numbers. Like the Dahae cavalry archers, these should be represented in the small numbers for situational purposes. I would recommend either making the player have to tech into them, have a long train time, or be expensive. The Persians did use them a bit when Cyrus was attacking Lydia.

Sundiata
According to Megasthenes, Kautilya (a.k.a. Chanakya) provided Chandragupta with a camel-corps From "Chandragupta Maurya and His Times" by Radhakumud Mookerji, p .167 Arrian also notes the use of camels in India, although I have no idea how this would translate in to an actual military unit.

With this sentences is not clear if they had been used as military units or for logistics. Camel archer would overlap with Seleucid Dahae horse archers and Persians chariots, BTW, with the current design.

The camels and horses would be military units, and the Asses would be used for the logistics of the camel-corps. They also had dedicated subsidiary divisions of the army tasked with specific logistic duties like transport of provisions, machines, weapons, armour and instruments as well as medical and ambulance arrangements, separate from the camel corps. 2 hours ago, av93 said: Doesnt make sense fighting nude in the desert I think it looks awkward because they are depicted as very light skinned people (imagine the sun-burn). In fact these are Afro-Asiatic people and would have had some melanin to protect them from the sun But aside from loincloths, they did indeed also wear garments covering their body. This Assyrian relief depicts the execution of an Arab. Not only is he significantly darker-skinned than the (more northern) Assyrian, he is wearing a garment covering his whole body. Also, he looks just like me (not joking). Here are some of the original sources used to create that historical reconstruction of (bare-chested) Arab camel riders fighting Assyrians, from the North Palace of Ashurbanipal at Nineveh: Edited December 26, 2017 by Sundiata
