Well, there's also the fact that I'm not really fond of the ammo idea. Lol. Now you don't just need ammo, you need supply trucks or a cool down or to retreat ur units back to the blacksmith or whatever.

Ammunition would be a bear to micromanage IMHO. Same with too much weapon switching (unless battalions are implemented).

Right, I would just do as you originally proposed and give the entities 1x attack bonuses so they can be modified later with this aura. -

I like this. I am also tempted to do things like swap out special buildings per hero too. So, Ptolemy Soter could have the Library, but the others would get the Lighthouse. -

Hamilcar Barca: Xanthippus of Sparta: Maharbal I need some ideas for Maharbal. https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Maharbal I also read all the entries about him on livius.org, but there's not much to go on. Also, 1 more Carthaginian hero is possible. Maybe someone related to the navy. -
Yeah, I guess I am privileged to have a great graphics card and always run GPU skinning. These look very nice. A good base for a standard tunic texture. Perhaps 2 or 3 more variants?

These are really awesome man. My only critique would be to maybe lessen some of the contrast of the diffuse map and allow the normal map to do the work for you. But that is an extremely mild critique, as I think they are already a nice improvement as-is. I see pectorals, Roman and Samnite inspired. I'm wondering if you'd want to go ahead and redo the Samnite tunic textures to go with the awesome new pectorals while you're at it.

The end-user is going to expect birds to be lumped with other animals is all I'm saying. We're not just organizing these things for us, or just for Nescio, but for the end-user who isn't anal about template classifications. But perhaps there could be some kind of "eyecandy" or "beautification" folder for templates like birds that don't effect the simulation. Map maker can search for "eye candy" at that stage of map design and see the birds.
