  5. https://code.wildfiregames.com/D4970 You should be able to easily make a mod based on this patch. From my own experience, there is a steep tradeoff between pathing and overlapping. If units push each other too hard, pathing becomes disastrous, with units walking in place or even moonwalking. Also, 0 overlap means women may kick each other off of berries for example. I have seen them go through perpetual motion like this lol. just like a newtons cradle. I found a pretty good 'middle ground' in the comments in that post, so that might be a good place to start from.

  7. Yes, you read the title correctly: this mod causes extinctions randomly destroying your entities. Official mod page on GitLab here. It's a semi-serious (working!) mod, whose idea originated from joking conversations in the lobby. Too OP and want to balance games? This is your chance to set it right. Features Set the entity reduction rate and the frequency of extinctions. Intensify/alleviate the entity reduction rate and frequency over time. Choose which entities can or cannot be destroyed. Totally voluntary usage: other players don't have to install it to play with you. Is that serious? Yes and no, I mean... it can be fun! On a serious note, scenarios or campaigns can be designed on top of it. After all, the idea is not that different from already existing features such as the rising of water level in the Extinct Volcano map. Events like the spreading of the Antonine Plague, imported by the Roman legions from the Near East, immediately come to my mind; although this example is outside the 0 A.D. time frame, events like this might well fit a scenario/campaign. 9. This is an issue with unit motion, and unit motion is really freaking hard. I made some attempts back in like 2017 to fix unit motion at the time, without full success. After coming back to the game after years of absence, I'm actually quite pleased with how a26 unit motion works. It's true that units can be packed more than before, but unit used to have the opposite problem where they'd travel single-file everywhere with excess spacing. Anyway, there's room for improvement in helping units to not bunch up so much, but it's not so simple as just enabling or disabling a setting. You'd have to implement a different algorithm (and then make sure it's performant enough, and doesn't interfere with woodcutting/gathering).

  12. There is no need to close your account because of the posts. The problem is entirely yours: it is up to you to decide what to read. That means you only need some self-awareness without being offended all the time. I already posted my opinion on smurfing and don't need to repeat extensively. I still think we shoud respect our lobby moderators as volunteers and abide to their no-smurfing rules. This is an argument about decency and I haven't seen a valid counter argument for that. Also when it comes to decency, can we agree to only post one more inappropriate comment before minding our language? (Only a certain C***** deserves inappropriateness for his arrogance). If people want to, you can count this post as the final inappropriate comment for me. Or maybe: it would be best to close this toxic tread( after@Stan` gives everyone a good chance to insult each other)

  14. Specifically the saying goes that Sparta's men were its walls, and historically, there was no threat to Sparta up until the war with Thebes following the Battle of Leuktra. In theory the game is supposed to represent civilisations at their pinnacle, and thus, Sparta does not have any walls. It is supposed to have better loyalty with its buildings and hardier women to compensate for that fact (at least going off of the original design document).

  18. I fail to see the rationale behind account sharing, especially considering that each individual can readily possess or create their own account. There aren't any in-game perks, such as gun skins, legendary titles, car skins, or other materials found in games with in-app purchases, that could serve as a valid justification for wanting to test these features through someone else's account. Aside that, lending a 2000+ rated account to a player with a 1200 rating does not suddenly enhance the latter's skills to match the former's. Hence, account sharing seems unlikely unless under rare circumstances, such as accounts being compromised or accidentally disclosed on the forums.

  19. Its all about whether people agree with your ideas, amazingly enough 0ad is run as a democracy in many cases, such as voting on community mod changes. If you want to gauge how much people like your idea, make a mod and put it into next community mod vote.

  20. Why not ask Bing Chat to correct ChatGPT? Here is Bing Chat's reply: "Hello, this is Bing. I can help you with your text about 0ad. Here are some suggestions: - In the first paragraph, you may want to explain what 0ad is for readers who are not familiar with it. For example, you could add a sentence like this: "0ad is a free and open-source real-time strategy game of ancient warfare that is under development by Wildfire Games." - In the second paragraph, you may want to clarify what you mean by "game planning" and how it relates to the lobby and other players. For example, you could add a sentence like this: "Game planning refers to the process of designing and creating a custom game scenario that can be played online with other players in the lobby." - In the third paragraph, you may want to use bullet points instead of numbers for the list of most important and least intuitive concepts, as they are not ranked or ordered. For example, you could write: ## Most Important Concepts - Unit Control: ... - Economy: ... - Map Control: ... ## Least Intuitive Concepts - Unit Formations: ... - Strategic Planning: ... - Counter-play: ... - In the fourth paragraph, you may want to provide some examples of why people love the game 0ad, such as the historical accuracy, the moddability, the online community, the graphics, and the story. For example, you could write: # Why do people love the game 0ad? People love the game 0ad for many reasons. Some of them are: - Historical Accuracy: The game features historical civilizations and units that are based on extensive research and documentation. The unit and building names are shown in the original language of the civilization they belong to, and they are also translated into the language in which the user is playing the game. ² - Moddability: The game is highly moddable, allowing players to customize their experience and create new content. The game engine and source code are available under free licenses, and the game art and music are available under a Creative Commons license. - Online Community: The game has a vibrant online community, with players helping each other out and sharing tips and strategies. The game also has an active development team that listens to feedback and suggestions from players. - Graphics: The game has beautiful graphics that create a realistic and immersive atmosphere. The game features dynamic lighting and shadows, realistic water effects, detailed terrain textures, and smooth animations. - Story: The game has a deep and engaging story that spans across different historical periods and civilizations. The game allows players to relive or rewrite the history of ancient civilizations, each depicted at their peak of economic growth and military prowess. I hope these suggestions are helpful. If you need more help with your text, please let me know."

  26. A good game, capable of more, rolls into some kind of garbage. No, I don't care anymore. The whole destiny is to gather dust with dead weight at SourcesForge with the rest of the unfinished garbage, because this is a "hobby And you know what the answer to that is? No I'm not going to listen to you and I'm not going to implement any of your ideas. Or at least I'm not going to try to convince anyone that your days are good. You know what else I'm doing without you noticing? I'm making you sabotage yourself. For a garbage game, as you say; you are too interested in being here giving your opinion. Don't you think so? It's a hobby, it doesn't have to be yours. I already gave you the link to Cossacks, are you afraid of being ignored there?

  28. I don't know why you have come to 0ad to make it into Cossacks. The whole point of finding a new game is learning to appreciate it. It seems like you have no appreciation for the game or community. You called the citizen-soldiers concept "dumb". We know it has its flaws, but we also know its gameplay benefits and we are working to improve it. Calling it "dumb" is just an insult to developers who have worked on 0ad for a long time, as well as players who have more than just a superficial understanding of the game and are always debating and discussing gameplay aspects and effects.

  30. This is not a hate, but sarcasm with surprise. Surprised by the fact that a strategy game is made by people who have practically never played other strategies. That is why we see a strange root territory, a limit between towers, an empty fortress, gaps in the defense in the form of forests and other "non-proprietary innovations".

  35. There is deprecation inherent in removing population value from houses. People who understand the game well can pretty easily forsee the negative gameplay effects of barracks giving 10 or even 5 population space.

  36. First of all, i can confirm that @Stockfish does not use an autosnipe mod. I have personally heard how he is clicking when sniping units :D. Secondly, 0.A.D as an open software project is, as i understand it, generally welcoming people to try out the "programming part" and play around with it, creating new mods, testing and exploring their own skills. So i think having mods that influence gameplay etc. is generally welcome and ok. I think it is a totally fine motivation on why to engage with 0 A.D. However, some people like to play 0 A.D competitively. The part many of them enjoy about the game is developing the best build orders, showing off mouse skills, macro, etc. It is less fun for them, if mods take over the part they enjoy the most. If they do not use the mods or are not accostumed to them, they might still be able to outplay players of lower skill easily. Nevertheless, on a more or less equal (high) level of play it is often small nouances, that will decide the outcome of a game. Saving clicks for macroing your economy, building houses etc. does for example allow a much greater dedication in time and focus on microing a fight, or thinking about the best strategy. This may lead to defeats that are frustrating, as the part of the game they enjoy and aspire to improve in the most is not the one that will decide on who wins. Therefore i think it is reasonable to set up rules for a tournament, which can allow or not allow the use of certain mods, so participants can evaluate if they are intrested in the specific challenge. I dont think mod users and non-mod users should condem each other and suggest that one of them should stop playing 0 A.D. It is about mutual respect ! So this issue is something players should communicate about before (comeptitve) games and accept other players preferences as legitimate.

  37. Yes, but only in early game. The small houses cost only 75 wood, which means for 300 starting resources you can build a farmstead, a storehouse and a house all at the same time -> good efficiency. However, in late game, the small houses become an absolute pain because their building them is less efficient at creating population space than large houses. They also take up more land and hence you might get yourself in an awkward housed situation. You either micro more or you have to set more house builders (they have to walk more). It's often the case that you boom faster and gather faster than you can build houses. @MarcAurel Good idea. But this tech should have a very short research time. Gauls and brits desperately need this. Building houses at the right place at the right time is the hidden key to achieving a good boom. It's often overlooked.

  38. @Boudica You might want to see this: the ProGUI mod that is under heavy scrutiny You can make mods undetectable by deleting their mod names in mod.json. But HerkEule with BoonGUI was able to see through this. You need mods to defeat other mods...

  41. In the game Cossacks: Back to the War, each barracks added several residential places. The problem is that 5 residential places per house seems very small to me. Instead of building entire blocks out of the slums, I'd like to make up for it by building barracks. Naturally, this opportunity should be given to all nations, and not just the Celts. This is not about increasing the capacity of the population in excess of the established one, but about the fact that the barracks will also provide housing as well as houses.
