Rating can be THE BEST method of measuring skill that we currently have, if you take it in context. 1.First of all, 0ad is a very small community, every consistent and experienced player 1500+ knows most other players of that rating or higher, either second hand or first hand. 2.The fake rating people, easily get revealed and disregarded, as exceptions, not to the rule, as they faked the rating. Smurfs get revealed easily, but as they dont have their actual rating you have to estimate. 3.And as for team game only players, they dont play 1v1s, so how can their rating be accurate? you cant blame the rating system for this, i for one would suggest time based rating as a form of controlling for it, making a rating illegitimate if som1 hasnt played a 1v1 inawhile, but i digress. 4.Pretty sure fubar is that guy that only plays weird maps and never participates in anything else, idk much about him, perhaps his rating is faked through multiple accounts. Doctor is a significantly better player than reza. team games are completely irrelevant in acertaining ones skill because only 12.5% of variables is based on you, as well as non balanced maps, cooperation variation, and much much more. 5.local rating is pretty much useless from my understanding, but im not well versed in it, wont get into that. 6.Rating system very accurately reflects a players skill, or more so win/loss potential against other players, if the player actively plays 1v1 vs others of similar rating to him, and if he doesnt fake it artificially either by farming lower rated players, or by multiple account rating siphon. 7. i dont care about the rule, i just dont play if the player breaches contract, not that its a particularly relevant thing to me, but even mild relevance warrants action, i have nothing to lose, im not the one causing the problem why play a 2200 on an account that has 2000 points, if its a rated game, on a high level id like to play the main account. 8. Relevance of rating system comes from players who give it relevance through adhering to it or valuing it. Unskilled players often like to delegitimize the rating system as a way to make themselves feel better "im good at tg" , etc. skill in 1v1 directly translates to tg, theres very little one needs to understand to play tg thats not effective in 1v1 but its convenient to convolute the signficance. 9.The rating system is just a useful tool to keep track of our history of wins/losses, even adjusted by significance via the opponents relative level to us. its quite effective, therefore, as much as, ones performance history is indicative of ones future potential that is. 10.If one doesnt care about rating, they would never choose to play rated games, or why make smurfs? why refuse to play with original account? Rule doesnt have to be enforced by some third party authority, its not a rule for the sake of itself, it has utility for compettetive purposes.3 points

A wise man once said: "Those who live in the shadows, perpetuating their deceit, tremble at the mere thought of the truth's revealing light. In their fragile insecurity, they fear the awakening of a formidable force that will expose their true nature, leaving them vulnerable and stripped of their illusionary power."3 points

Tough. The original poster got his answer; everything else appears to be just trolling and flaming.3 points

Sun Wukong wants A23 Brits and Gauls back, when these civs' buildings added some pop cap. This feature caused great balancing issues so it was removed since A24. On one hand, it makes booming easier. On the other hand, the implication of people sleeping in barns and barracks is not so nice. So if you want to implement this feature again, do it for every civ for balance.2 points

Maybe I expressed badly. General reset, all back to 1200. Yes, I think it would be interesting to include 4v4 games as well, although that is perhaps something for another discussion. @Stan`could this bring some sort of performance benefit to the lobby?2 points
-
@Stan`there will be a portion (small I think) that won't like it, but that doesn't seem like a problem to me. If cleaning brings benefits, why not? We would have a current table, clean of inactives and part of the smurfs, it could also encourage high level players like feldfeld and valih to come back to the game.2 points
-
@Stan` is possible to have the rating reset to a27? I mean, the top 100 is full of inactive players and smurf accounts as well. I think it would be interesting to have this reset every so often.2 points

Some people think that Carthage is a weak civ in A26. If you play them with the correct strategy, they are not bad at all. These two replays might be helpful: carthaginians.zip Loadouts: 90 archers + 40 spearman + 10 cav Jav cav spam + spearman or champion cav Elephants + archers 40 archers + 40 cav + 50 spearman It's also a good idea to make a bit of everything with the Carthaginians. They are the most diverse civ so they do have the best potential to play any strategy you want. They are totally flexible and the mercenary units can save you in dire situations. The key to playing Carthaginians is always keep about 9 units on metal, as there are many opportunities to spend metal in late game. Archer spam with the Carthaginians is quite powerful. Try to get your enemy in front of some building or some obstacle then shower then with arrows. If they approach you, retreat immediately. The Carthaginian spearman has identical shape to a hoplite so you can do the trick of shrinking 50 spearman into one tiny unbeatable singularity, using formations. Enemy pikes are countered by your elephants and hero dancing, meanwhile your archers snipe enemy ranged. One thing that can be improved is to give Carthaginian archers the additional range tech. They are an archer civ after all so they do deserve this tech like any other archer civ.1 point

What do you all think of the new forums? The new look? Lets get this place hoppin! I want to see some more posting Glad you can make it, and if you have any question about the 0 A.D. project, please feel free to ask!1 point

wow, you have been posting on this forum since before I was born! OP! Greetings from a new generation of 0AD players! (A26 at the moment)1 point

Carthage functions somewhat like the Kushites. It would be interesting to have more diversity with this faction. It's not bad but the other Africans outclass them.1 point

cool idea, sounds like fun, but I don't know how many teams we could make. also smurf tampering would possibly be an issue.1 point

They are saying barracks should add to the pop cap, like houses do, and that fortresses should add more to the pop cap than they already do.1 point

You are being a bit immature by labeling people, you are very defensive, I suggest you take time to reflect.(I am impulsive too). You are trying to argue without basis and with bad arguments, it is normal when you are stressed.1 point

It's possible @Dunedan actually proposed to do it iirc but I thought that would cause a public outcry.1 point

yes. I was one of the last 10 posters, so I am included the range of people you are talking to. what is obvious? Yes K is me. Manipulating what? Be clear. You just randomly asserted that the 3 of us need professional mental help, as if we have mental health issues, in a thread that is completely irrelevant to you. So you probably missed some context. Maybe you are the one who needs some help, since you also posted here. You don't seem to be aware of who and what has been taking place in the lobby. My recommendation is you come to the lobby and play some TGs more often. I watched this conversation between vinme and felixix take place yesterday. If you were there, you would have understood better why people are saying seemingly strange things.1 point

I have* Brazil has 5 world championships and has not "had" 5 championships. Records and titles are at present. When I die or retire you can use "had"1 point
-
You obviously felt spoken to. And you denying it has so much credibility after admitting you create and "share" multiple accounts, both ingame and on the forum. Besides that, all those "K"s in your list of shared accounts aren't yours either right? Don't mistake this for a witch hunt though, it's just painfully obvious. I was sincere, seek help, because your behavior is not normal. It's manipulative. I agree this thread should probably be closed, but it's up to the mods.1 point
-
Here we're going a bit off-topic but... this is not standard dev operation. If you are a modder reading this, please do not follow this recommendation. There are valid guides on the forum explaining how to make mods for the game.1 point

why play 0ad? it gives you money? why try to win in TGs or 1v1s? does it give you money? just have fun building a pretty city with 50 farms behind it to make it more realistic and to scale.1 point

I just use a floating field foundation. A destroyed field still works as a measurement since it leaves a mark on the ground for a while; unless you go for a really tight fit and want to use the overlay a field offers to the max.1 point

install autociv, set corpse to 0. When units die, there won't be a death animation. They simply disappear.1 point

Maybe you can delay an AI for a moment, but overall I think it's pretty pointless.1 point

This is getting spooky.... Now I suspect Yekaterina is actually a smurf account by @Stan` and he is fooling all of us.1 point

Seek professional mental help, the last 10 posts in this thread you've been literally talking to yourself and the only one you are fooling is you.0 points

All things considered, rm -rf is the most OP here terminates the thread with one sentence one of the strongest players in the lobby gave me suggestions on how to improve my Python skills thanks man!0 points

Congratulations on the third place among people who have said this thing in this thread. Furthermore, you've also won the a special award for naming the exact steps that could help cheaters cheat better. And... I see you are also putting yourself into the group of foolish folks who try to claim that mods don't even make a difference. It's a surprise that this is coming from someone like you, to be honest. It feels like hearing 1900 people bash the novel motor car idea because a horse is always a horse and it won't break down on the way. I don't even feel like going much deeper into the discussion (and give free ideas to cheaters), because it just seems super obvious. No player can control every unit in every turn independently, but a mod can. Are you going to claim that getting a free 500 of precise APM with possibly no overkill ever is just an insignificant, minor convenience? I don't really know who the "kid" is here now. I start to suspect that people talking like this might be just those wanting to use a mod to get an unfair advantage themselves, so they can finally be good and go challenge borg- (as long as he is without the mod, that is). It's never been like "Hey, Boudica, I've been testing this new mod that does eco for me, wanna try to play like this?". No. They preferably even create a smurf account and casually ask you to play rated. And this kind of dishonesty is what makes me lose any respect to those. Understand that I'm not scared, it's just contempt.0 points
