  2. Not really, if they put pikemen and archers in the same formation, you'll end up attacking the pikemen anyway.

  3. D4303 and the Mainland TG map I mentioned includes a "random" team placement option that Frontier and Ambush has as an option now.

  4. I don't know who screwed up what, but Wild Lake in a25 just sucks. Is anybody actually enjoying the 'feature' that you can't build anything around your CC? With the India biome it was so terrible that I abandoned the game. With the Agean-Anatolian biome I hoped it would be better, but it still is terrible. Not only is it still a pain in the averywhere to build anything, but it also somehow breaks the AI. Repeatedly I had workers like this one neither being idle nor clearing the terrain but just standing around. THE HECK??!? (Wild Lake never was nor is balanced, just given the distribution of treasures and Gaia units.)

  6. This is a very true point. It's unfortunate how much division different cultures can have... by which I don't necessarily mean just national cultures, which make a little difference but people are divided everywhere. In my case I grew up with a strong "protect people from clear undeniable harms, have thick skin and don't care about anything else" mindset... not something I claim is perfect just my way of thinking, in part it's because I have a strong spite for authoritarianism based on how it affected and scared me in the past. While I can't personally transpose and envision it, I can imagine others being different for their own motives... while I hate everything being so strict and taken so seriously nowadays, I don't want to ignore how they feel either if a bad word can truly make someone feel considerably bad. For this suggestion, perhaps an option of sorts would be good, such as regex expressions to replace words. It would be nice if it was left up to individuals if possible.

  7. In the AAA, it is even used to recruit children for the Narcos (cartels) in Mexico. then Americans wonder why hard control of the southern border is so important.

  8. Maybe. I agree that infantry battalions would be slow and therefore not very good at pursuing the enemy. But if we consider battalions to be stronger (in some way) to just a bunch of disorganized units, then we can use those battalions to secure specific locations or areas of interest in the map (either resource rich areas or choke points). Also, a battalion of horses should still be pretty fast regardless.

  10. That's true, but I guess two would be better than one

  11. Note that when attacking a formation, your units will attack the formations closest member. Example: Enemy has a line of archers, which form a formation, you click to attack one of them, they will all attack the closest member of that formation, not the specific unit you targetted. Which is kind of what you want, right? So if you could force your enemy to use formations, your problem is solved?

  13. And for those who aren't familiar with the "Beside Allies" placement yet, @Palaiologosis displaying that in the 3 examples on the left side of this graphic. It's available using the Mainland TG map from the Community Maps 2 mod, and submitted as a patch for a26 in D4303 So if you like the new "Beside Allies" placement, please let the devs know in this post or on the patch itself.

  14. for what I know it places 8 CCs in a totally random fashion, and then, if you selected the "random group" option, it assignes them to players so that allies are not mixed with enemies. Red Sea also works like this. I've played various matches in A25 in Frontier map with various bioms, and people are always complaining there is not enough wood, and it's true, there is much less wood in the new bioms than before. Even though Frontier is a cool map, I'm not playing it anymore for this reason.

  16. I think a quicker and easier solution would be for a lobby admin to ban a player hosting a game that uses language which violates the TOS or COC

  17. Right, back player wouldn't make p2 to even establish a market given the amount of wood. I'm fine with there being disadvantages either way as well. Merely wanted to point out the potential problem with that specific mapgen/option since it caters towards mainlanders. Think the unknown/random land map option also produces the kerala setup? These are nice options to have in the game. Breaks up the same ole mainland, mainland, mainland ad nauseam positions/strategies. Included the "Besides Ally" with 4 & "Stronghold" with 3 teammates.

  18. I am not sure. Maybe. I know Iberians from the North-East collected heads. Hands I don't know. As far as I know, the genetical differences between Iberians or Etruscans are small with their neighbors. On the Iberian peninsula, the change mostly happened during the early Bronze Age but for everyone. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/ancient-iberians-dna-from-steppe-men-spain https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6436108/ https://www.uma.es/sala-de-prensa/noticias/reconstruyen-la-historia-genomica-de-la-peninsula-iberica-de-los-ultimos-8000-anos/ https://www.lavanguardia.com/vida/20190314/461028099943/la-asombrosa-historia-de-la-peninsula-iberica-a-traves-de-8000-anos-de-adn.html

  19. I think a "Capture the Wonder" game mode would be awesome. So, on certain random maps, a game setup option would be available to choose a "Capture the Wonder" victory. This is different from a standard "Wonder" victory; it would place a "Wonder of the World" at the center of the map, and the player or team who can capture and hold it for a specified amount of time wins the game. Like a "Wonder" victory, the time duration can be chosen by the game host. The random map script could have a "<capture_the_wonder/>" flag that enables this, so that it can be available on a map script-by-map script basis (some map scripts would probably be unsuitable for this game mode by their design. As an aside: If "Capture the Wonder" is implemented, I'd suggest renaming the standard "Wonder" victory to "Build a Wonder" or something similar. Your thoughts on such a game mode/victory condition? For discussion of possible Wonders, go here:

  20. This King of the Hill talk has happened a lot. I think it's a good idea. I would also like a Capture the Flag (Relic) mode. That would encourage more fights instead of just turtling. Maybe something like relics in the middle of a map that have to be moved to a designated area that favors the other team. The current relic mode either has too many relics or becomes a case where the capturer parks the relics in a secure area.

  22. this seems reasonable so rest of us can more clearly see our level on the leaderboard. started this thread because like half the people above me dont play anymore or dont play rated anymore. maybe there should be a quota of X amount of games per month that a player must play rated or otherwise remove "y" amount of rank.

  23. A very good idea indeed is to learn from lichess, they even have a very good FAQ, with a section explaining their rating system(Glicko-2, which I think is very good), how leader boards work, how they treat disconnections or leaving without resign, etc. All very pertinent to 0a.d. https://lichess.org/faq

  24. Maybe I am going of point, but I had a different idea for ratings for players on the other side of the spectrum. My suggestion: If a player under 1250 completes a game, his rating gets increased by 1 point regardless of whether it was a rated game. I think it would not hurt too much as people will probably learn from each game and after 50 games you are probably better than before. This would solve the issue with all the 1200 rated players and new players can easier distinguish between real noobs and those who did not play rated games.

  25. @user1 there has been a game open all week with name 'TG' opened by user 'suckonmyballs'. This game should be closed somehow. We need some form of moderation in the lobby

  27. But I need that stuff too! (I was a bit salty because I had no extra metal, there was none available in the free terrain, my nearest enemy's territory had no extra deposit; so I felt forced to research Diaspora and go to my ally and then find out I can't use the CC...)
