i searched for this posting i did not found it. cant believe its not a double posting, but don't find it. What particularly fascinates me about this strategy game is that I can play almost everything using the keyboard. this is a unique selling point and probably the property that fascinates me most. ( of course i speaking fom AutoCiv MOD and my config i develop every day a bit user.cfg). before that i played Megaglest sometimes, but the fascination really didn't last that long. That is surely also the reason that I don't play any other games on the computer (except chess using lichesslichchess). i really hop AutoCiv is still there in A25. if not what am I supposed to do here?3 points

The problem with this reasoning is that you can twist it to justify about anything. A community needs rules just as a society does. BTW I am kind of annoyed of the inflationary use of the word "-phobia"/"-phobic" for any kind of disagreement whether it is coupled with fear (the actual meaning of that word) or not.3 points

3 visually different versions of CCs would be a greatly appreciated addition anyway.3 points

Currently, the majority of players are much better than even the Very Hard aggressive AI and find it easy to defeat. Therefore, I would like to request the addition of even more challenging AI settings for pro players to practice and experiment new skills on. The current 'very hard' AI consistently makes a few strategic mistakes which slow down its eco and decrease its attacking ability even though they have 56% gather bonus: 1. Using women to mine 2. Not researching upgrades 3. Using men to gather food 4. Not using formations 5. Small pushes - real players often commit all of their units to a big push 6. Not knowing to retreat after rushing 7. Unwise timing for expansions 8. Chasing after lone enemy cavalry - causes idle time and increases risk 9. Lack of selection in where to attack - they attack a random location which could be well defended. They never outflank or make sneaky moves. 10. Not training in large batches 11. Not using enough women in early phases 12. Scattered troops and sending small groups of women out of the safe zone to build new cc If the devs can fix these then the AI would be much more fun to play with. To make the AI more realistic we can also add a cavalry rush or archer rush feature. Just increasing the gather rate does make their boom faster but doesn't make the AI feel like a more challenging nor intelligent opponent. With that said, we can push the very hard AI's gather bonus to 100% to make it extra tough. Meanwhile, the very easy AI could do some smaller rushes, for example with just 5 archers. This makes the learning curve shallower for beginner players.2 points

I am now working on a mod that improves the strategy used by the AI. I copied the .js files controlling the petra bot into my mod folder, but I am not sure where I can change the eco bonus of the AI. Can someone give me a hint please? I have already adjusted their strategy slightly by increasing the number of units trained before phasing up. Here are the 3 easy points I will tackle first: 1. Using enough women for eco (I see some improvement) 2. Not phasing up too early (they phase up at around 60 pop now compared to the previous 40 pop, could do better) 3. No suicide push. (haven't started editing this yet)2 points

I don't think you ever had a socialist government? Certainly Duque isn't a socialist. Anyway, to get back to the topic: I'm not offended by profanity, but if the servers are open to minors, maybe a general rule against profanity and other offensive words like slurs should be stated. And then probably enforced on a per complaint basis. I don't really believe an automated system will work; on the other hand, if only one person is responsible for that stuff, I don't know how well that would work...2 points

I teach the little guys, K-3 computers. We've modded it to take out the attacking (I use the royal "we"), so it's just a civ builder. We play during lunch sometimes.2 points

Sneak Peek of 0 A.D. Alpha 25 A provisional date of June 2021 has been proposed for the ‘Feature Freeze’ – the point at which new features for the upcoming Alpha version of 0 A.D. stop being added and the development team focus solidly on bugfixes. This is not the release date. The feature freeze is one of the precursors to release, with the specific launch date to follow. You can find more information here. First Impressions of Alpha 25 Be sure to tune into the Tom0AD live stream on YouTube on Friday 7th May 2021 at 9pm CET to see a preview of the latest development version of Alpha 25 in action. The broadcast will feature Tom and fellow YouTubers, Alistair Findlay, and Jim Cogan (0AD Newbie Rush) putting the dev version through its paces live on air. And there will also be a live Q&A session with 0 A.D. Developer, Stan`. New Features Following closely on the heels of Alpha 24, this latest iteration of 0 A.D. will look to further build on functionality and further expand the existing feature set while also fixing existing bugs. With a shorter planned gap between alpha releases this time around, most of the proposed additions are subtle and geared toward small improvements in the current and future player experience rather than headline features. But there are a few notable things to look out for. Single Player Campaign Support: The ability for 0 A.D modders to create their own single player campaigns will be added. Alpha 25 will only include the base functionality for this with full campaigns scheduled to be added in later iterations. Improved Multiplayer Responsiveness A technical improvement that players may ‘feel’ rather than see, this is another progressive improvement step to smoothing out multiplayer gameplay and enhancing unit pathfinding. Before commands in multiplayer were processed twice per second, now five times like in single player. Ongoing Balancing Changes Numerous changes to balance of the game by way of micro adjustments to various civilisations, buildings, and units. For a full list of all proposed features/changes visit the Alpha 25 Wiki page. Get Involved! Your Chance to Name the New Alpha Every new iteration of 0 A.D. gets a name, and this is your chance to contribute your suggestions. The Alpha 25 Name Suggestions thread on the 0 A.D. Community Forum has been open since January 2021, but there is still time to vote for your favourite and put forward your own suggestions. 0 A.D. release names start with the letter of the alphabet that corresponds to the release version. Alpha 22 was Venustas, Alpha 23 was Ken Wood, Alpha 24 was Xšayāršā, and Alpha 25 will start with a ‘Y’. Check out the thread here.1 point

Hi, I am wondering how to implement the following: 1) When a player cuts a tree, the tree will fall in some direction. Has any work on this been done? What technology would it be required to implement these two features (C/C++, JavaScript...,)? What would be the best way to start? Thanks! EDIT: Previously, there was a point 2): 2)the tree could kill units while falling, that would have to run away from the falling tree. But this is probably a bad idea so i removed it...1 point

I will call it KateBot I don't have the skills to write a whole new AI... I edited the javascript files and now the AI reaches 197 pop by minute 16 and goes in for a huge push. The catch is it forgot to phase up (so still village phase by minute 18) and no siege. The huge push part is more similar to players in TG but the lack of siege and no formations are problems to be solved.1 point

With everything I've read about Columbia in the last decades, I somehow doubt that solely 'progressive and communist words' are to blame for hate and violence...1 point

It's not the words themselves that need banned. It's when the content of the words are being used to belittle or attack other players (regardless of ideology). But as a democratic socialist myself, I am very unlikely to be holding a flame war against our economic oppressors on the 0 A.D. multi-player chat.1 point

I doubt if it is OP. CCs are expensive but useful can be useful. More territory also means more territory to defend and in that view a second CC also makes you vulnerable.1 point

In gaul/champion_cavalry_swordsman These two sections are wrong: <Run> <Speed>21.0</Speed> </Run> <Attack> <Melee> <Hack>2.0</Hack> <Pierce>0.0</Pierce> <Crush>25.0</Crush> </Melee> </Attack> Run speed is now a multiplier of walk speed ( see your file template_unit_champion_cavalry.xml as an example of it done right) Attack needs <Damage> inside the melee component. Your file template_unit_champion_cavalry_swordsman does this right.1 point

Perhaps we can create a filter for new usernames and game names: Compare the name to a blacklist of offensive vocabulary If blacklisted vocabulary is in the name then ban. This way direct profanity as shown above will be eliminated.1 point

I like this out-of-the-box thinking. Finally, an idea that's never been suggested before.1 point

Seleucids do have the potential to cater for a wide range of strategies, yes, especially cavalry. They are almost on par with Persians in that respect, but also have the siege tower troll and elephant tsunami... However, you need to choose between champion pikemen and champion swordsmen. Not sure if nubs can always make the correct choice. Also their structure tree is above average in complexity. Personally I find cavalry somewhat difficult to use compared to infantry push, maybe nubs will also find it challenging.1 point

Well that is a shame , at the moment when you make a syntagma , the phalangites just spread out like normal and i was expecting a bit more going forward but oh well.1 point

So basically: Give a tree HP and a death animation and you're good to go. It would totally ruin your gameplay, however.1 point

Let's say there are approximatively 300 tree variations. (650 files in gaia, minus the rocks, plus the files not named tree, minus bushes, minus tree leaves) If we wanted to do it the the art way, you'd have to change those 300 files to have various animations, maybe one or two. Some trees are made of multiple parts e.g can come under the form of three palm trees. If we wanted to do it the programming way, the problem would be that three would look weird when falling because it has no roots. To fix that you need new art which 300 new roots. As for death damage the engine already supports it for living units, but not really for resources because they do not have HP and as such can't die. You could do it like sheep however, and have the death deal death damage, then play the falling animation. Maurya and Ptolemies are not easy civs to play with, because they require a lot of micro-managing. Easy beginner civs: 1. Rome (good at defence, doesn't have major weaknesses, not too complex structure tree) 2. Britons (not much to learn, pure brutality, useful dog, quick houses) 3. Iberia (OP defence, simple structure tree) Spartans are slightly more difficult because you need to balance the eco for skiritai and hoplite champs. Requires much metal mining. Carthage is strong if you bother to learn their structure tree. They can play many different strategies. Same applies for Macedon Athens... strong navy but weak on land. Kush, Seleucid, Ptolemies, Maurya are OP if you know how to play them, but maybe not for beginners. Persians... hard to master, slow boom. Gaul... you have to rush and raid at all times, which is not easy for nubs. I can't play them.1 point

AFAIK many years ago there was an official decision to only use soft counters in 0 A.D. (no fixed attack bonuses). That already has changed. However, it's not always that intuitive. Intuitive, for me, would mean about (+ soft counter ++ hard counter): ranged infantry archer: + heavy infantry ++ light infantry - spear cavalry -- sword cavalry slinger: + light infantry ++ heavy infantry - spear cavalry -- sword cavalry javelin: ++ ranged - spear cavalry -- sword cavalry melee infantry spear: + cavalry - ranged pike: ++ cavalry - ranged - infantry sword: + spear infantry ++ pike infantry + siege -- ranged ranged cavalry archer: + heavy infantry ++ light infantry - spear infantry -- pike infantry -- spear cavalry javelin: ++ ranged - spear infantry -- pike infantry -- spear cavalry melee cavalry spear: ++ cavalry + ranged - spear infantry -- pike infantry sword: ++ ranged + siege - spear infantry -- pike infantry -- spear cavalry1 point

I always say that profanity-phobics make profanity necessary. As long as there are people offended by it, there will be a need for people to provide the required offenses. But yes, consistency, or the lack of it, is a whole other story.1 point
