First time player. Excellent narration... Player: "Are these sheep or pigs? They look like sheep to me." Gaia animal: "Baaah" Player: "That is definitely a pig. Yeah, you can tell by the sound it's making. Pigs go Baaah" "Yes, the women of Rome, known of course for their heavy logging", lol...5 points

You're doing it again ;) I'm quite busy the coming weeks, but it seems like a welcome addition to me.3 points

During AoE2's design they considered allowing capturing. The way it worked was that building below 25% HP would become disabled, and repairing them above 50% would make them yours. I've come to think, over time, that this is a strictly better design than ours. The question is whether the player meant that to happen. All orders from the player are forced, with I believe no way to un-force them. Perhaps we should only mark them forced on double-clicking, not single clicking. In the heat of a battle, if you order a catapult to attack one unit from a group, you probably aren't expecting it to chase that unit.3 points

That looks good, mixing the Greek, Seleucid, and Egyptian textures. I like how you mixed a Greek style temple with some obelisks.3 points

Last line of the log. So gotta find some mechanism to prevent two processes from reading and writing simultaneously to the same file (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutual_exclusion#Types_of_mutual_exclusion_devices )1 point

Only manual pack/unpack it would be perfect and simple.1 point

Maybe that would be more logical indeed. March 2018: rP21630 Fix UnitAI behaviour inconsistent with its stance for packed units and set default stance to standground for packed units. April 2018: rP21784 Fix a couple of packing problems from rP21630 rP21786 really fix packing problems reported in rP21630 May 2018: #5175 October 2018: So perhaps the fix to #5091 should be different, I didn't want to get involved with that mudding, but the unpack-loop issue remains reported and is put into the scheduled list #5328 (which means there will be at least three clicks being spent on the issue). (Already the case?) #4015 and D1520 as FeldFeld pointed out. Standground? Simulation commands are orders. The user sends an order so as to start a process. UnitAI has an order queue and performs that one step at a time. Orders can be cancelled by removing them from the queue. So it's logically consistent with the UnitAI in general, but this packing AI may be unique and warrant some different behavior. Reverting to 0% slowly seems sound to me instead of instantly jumping to 0%, which indeed would justify considering to replace the cancel command with the pack/unpack command, and account for that somehow in the packing part of UnitAI. Sounds like invoking spaghetti code but, maybe inevitable. But that's the weakpoint of siege engines, they should be and remain that vulnerable during that stage, no? Agree, it must be fun to play. That proportional-progress proposal is possibly still the right thing to do, depending on expectations of logic and gameplay design. For aggressive stance, and for forced attacks in any stance it sounds reasonable to follow the attacked target. I suppose it's important to satisfy the definition of an order. If there is an order to perform X, then by definition X is ordered to be performed, and that means doing the preconditions like packing to achieve that. So one could introduce an order type (such as ground based attacks) where the siege engine attakcs units in the target area without implying that a specific unit should be attacked (thus not providing reason to have it unpack at any time). Dunno. Images may vary slightly from actual product. There are many ways to skin a cat. Doesn't require hierarchical force to commit a catapult AI fix. But for my review I need a decision whether I want to be frustrated by throwing or riding the bomb.1 point

For me it just feels nicer to use gameplay-wise. Without the cancel i would have to stay frustrated with needing to wait for the catapult to unpack to pack it again. It is also how it's done in AoE2. Currently, the case where multiple catapults in different states are in selection is handled by having 2 different cancel buttons, although they look the same. It's also not realistic having to let the catapult finish unpack where it is at only 1% on the progress, but to be fair I don't want to have a game 100% realistic in situations like this anyway.1 point

I initially decided to write this all up because I was looking for a smaller issue I could work on myself. But I guess some things need to be fixed in the development process first before I could contribute anything? When I first worked on something here, elexis helped me with everything I need. I heard him say that he'd like to invest a lot of his time into the development again. But guess what? He's been incredibly frustrated with the situation that has been around here recently. I don't even know who I'm talking to now. I just wanted to show that there are now more people that want to invest their time to make the game better but they can't. And I had the feeling that there is a lot of useless ego involved in this. Could you just put the ego behind in the name of making the game better? I'd personally be glad if elexis got more power in what gets into the game and if we listen to him more. He has incredible knowledge about the code and he puts great effort into making his contributions the best they can get. People from the player community would probably vote for elexis to become the next project leader. Or I sure would. Please unfrustrate elexis for me and let us work together.1 point

I realize I failed to answer here, so I will do it now. I like consistency, so we should not use diacritics nor different letter for Greek and not for old Persian for consistency's sake. As we already use american English for the game it might make sense to follow american standards. So here is my take on this: I like diacritics and flat lines and whatnot I also like that the game displays text in Greek However: I can totally understand how specific names can be confusing (eg. Kushites) The player should not be confused by the interface. So I vote for the American Library's convention. As @wowgetoffyourcellphone said, specific names could be an option. Maybe @Freagarach could submit a patch for that if she wants to. There are not many occurrences of the word so it should be easy to make it togglable https://github.com/0ad/0ad/search?l=JavaScript&q="specific+name"&type=Code https://github.com/0ad/0ad/search?l=JavaScript&q="specificname"&type=Code1 point

Another guy running 0 A.D. in Raspberry Pi. It seems that tiny maps with not too many resources could run smoothly. Maybe we could even make a mod for less powerful computers. hf1 point

Nope, because we don't have a glow pass either HDR one (we increase the brightness only for the whole frame). But it'd pretty easy to add after GL1 drop (if we'd drop it x) ). Could you share a sample of the "oscilating shader"?1 point

Being here since 2007 helps with getting a high number of posts, plus at least in the past there were a lot of staff-only discussions which means that it's not always visible how active the forums are or have been.1 point

@__najimakimoda Everyone is different on how they keep themselves productive, but here are some tips I found to help remain productive. (1) Set small daily goals. I try to set a goal to make an object(mesh) or texture a day. (2) Don't rush your project. Rushing can lead to fatigue which can also lead to dropping your project. (3) Start projects that you are interested in. Working on projects that you like can give a boost in your productivity. (4) Listen to music to help stimulate your creativity. Hope these helped1 point

The GPL license grants everyone to modify, redistribute and sell modifications or extensions to the 0 A.D., i.e. to compete for funds on third party online payment services. What is left for Wildfire Games to decide is what happens on Wildfire Games online services (lobby, forums, mod.io, download page, ...). The Lobby Terms say promotion of specific goods or services is not allowed (not allowed without WFGs permission in the new revision). I expect restrictions on that by the non-profit status too.1 point

"Liberapay is a recurrent donations platform". They accept donations via Stripe and PayPal. Some people already donated money to 0 A.D. https://liberapay.com/on/twitter/play0ad However, 0 A.D. currently does not collect the money donated via Liberapay. Is there a chance that 0 A.D. will make use of Liberapay in the future?1 point

@Jeru I have seen the discussion. However, the "Software in the Public Interest" (SPI) collects money via PayPal from users or for Europe through the Verein zur Förderung Freier Informationen und Software e.V. (short ffis), which means you are covered in the US and in the EU. Maybe I am missing something, but would it not be enough to simply link the PayPal account from the SPI to Liberapay? For me it seems like you figured out the legal already through the SPI and ffis. Additionally, it should not matter if you receive many small donations or do you have to list every donor individually? Furthermore, is it possible to fund individual members of the 0 A.D. team? For example, because the person invests a lot of time into creating content or developing some features I really care about? Or would this violate some 0 A.D. or SPI policies? Furthermore, in my opinion the Liberapay team could work together with the SPI to make donations via Liberapay possible.1 point

To make life easier and prevent waste, I would like the Treasury Committee's approval to take the following steps: to consolidate all of the Flattr funds into our SPI funds, to cancel the Flattr account, to ask Jason to consolidate all of the legacy PayPal funds into our SPI funds, and to let Jason know that once the funds are transferred, he can close the legacy account if he wants to. We currently have EUR 805.18 in the Flattr "wallet balance", up from EUR 619.75 in November 2015. I am attaching a month-by-month transaction log of the last year or so. Based on 2014-2015 data, the legacy PayPal account probably has something like USD 300-400. This is money that legally belongs to Jason and he can be taxed for any extra income that goes into the account. @MishFTW and @feneur, what say you?1 point
