Visual "realism" is good but it's for the bin if you don't see ata glance to which player a unit belongs. 0ad is still a game and not a history simulation. (Of course we should aim for the best historical accuracy. But only as long as it doesn't hinder the gameplay too much) I know the view on this issue also heavily depends on whether you are more a competitive player or a casual. (Maybe we should just have an option to switch between two variatons: One with 100% accurate textures and one with accurate textures and distinguishable player color. Will be much effort and not sure how easy to implement ;))4 points

This is how it looks like on saturated player color by the way. I also included the basic infantry spearmen texture. For play-ability, I guess you are right about that. What was on my mind when I created the three-tone pattern as to make things look more natural and avoid the units too obviously look like each others clone, this would be cool, yes, if battalions are enabled.3 points

Making so many shades or tones of the same player color #1 reduces the effectiveness of player color (I thought player color should be obvious), and #2 adds visual confusion (now it's all pureed and blended like a smoothy). If, as I'd prefer, player color was strong and vibrant (like in DE), but used selectively, then you don't get some mass of vague player color, you get visual clarity.3 points

Part of the problem too is that texture artists have been straying from the established formula and using saturated colors for the diffuse texture and not neutrals. Another problem is that truly units don't need 10 textures for every unit and rank. For proper visual randomization you really only need about a maximum of 4 variations (see many of the house sets), and even those should be relatively similar (don't mix linen armor variants with bronze armor variants, etc.).2 points

Nope, pyramids evolved from Mastabas. Basically mastaba → stepped pyramid → bent pyramid → true pyramid Egyptians had been making use of rectangular grave structures since at least the pre-Dynastic Naqada culture. The populations of South Egypt and Sudan were using tumuli since the Neolithic. Usually quite small, but Kerma period Kushite royal tumuli could reach in excess of 90 meters diameter, with many individual "apartments". Lower Nubian nobles (Egyptian-Kushites) and Egyptian nobles started using small pyramids during the New Kingdom, after the Egyptian pharaohs had abandoned the practice. Then with the establishment of the Kushite 25th Dynasty, the Napatan rulers started building royal pyramids again, an evolution from the earlier New Kingdom nobles' pyramids. They just switched from tumulus to pyramid. But most of the common folk continued to be buried in small tumuli, with the exception of Lower Nubian nobles who continued to build small New Kingdom style pyramids. After the collapse of Meroitic Kush, the post-Meroitic royals of El Hobagi actually switched back to tumuli as well... The Blemmye and their Eastern Desert ancestors like the Medjay, as well as Western Desert peoples (including the Nuba, I believe) were using tumuli throughout all of these periods. The "Bosnian Pyramids" are considered pseudo-archaeology..2 points

I fixed the file arrangement so contents are in proper order. The GitHub link has also changed with this fix. https://github.com/BigTiger7/0ad_flora2 points

I approve as well. I will forward this request to SPI as soon as possible.2 points

Keeping only one version of identical actors makes sense; less duplication. You might want to have a look at Carthage's Iberian mercenaries too; currently it's a bit inconsistent: simulation/templates/units/ – Actor cart_cavalry_swordsman_gaul_b.xml – celts/ cart_cavalry_swordsman_iber_b.xml – carthaginians/ cart_infantry_javelinist_iber_b.xml – iberians/ cart_infantry_slinger_iber_b.xml – carthaginians/ cart_infantry_swordsman_gaul_b.xml – carthaginians/2 points

My point was that you could use less color if the saturation is turned up!2 points

What if I add the white variant and have a ratio of: 3 - White 1 - Light tone (Player color) 1 - Mid tone (Player color) 1 - Dark tone (Player color) I use this because I find it nice, specially when it blends with a body mesh set it player color. Say for example, Intense player color could show up in a unit once in a while, if both the dark toned body player color and kidaris cap player color would display together in one unit. A lighter toned one could also be a possibility, vice versa and a good mix between, as seen in the screenshot. I think increasing the white ratio was the key.2 points

Yeah the guides take a weirdly long time to make for simple text and image documents, I'll probably not get back to making them until all the factions are done.2 points

The League Fixture has been UPDATED: check the latest post. Hi all, We are working on Sunday Pro Games League Fixture. We came with some ideas. This is a controversial subject, so we would like to find a basic solution for the event. Currently, the league fixture is something like this: How did we come to these results? -If you are in the winning team you get 2 points. Otherwise, you got 1 point. -We divide 3 points between the players according to their KD, Military Score, and Kill counts. -Players can get a penalty(a yellow card) if they broke no dance, no wonder rule. 2 Yellow cards = 1 Red Card. The players who have a Red Card will be banned for the next match. For example, let's look at @JC (naval supremacist)'s score. He was in the losing team so he gets 1 point from the team game. He has 1.2 KD ratio. So, we look at total KD ratio: 7.86. If you divide 1.2/7.86 you get 0.15... points. Then military score. He has 4492 and the total military is 34511. If you divide 4492/34511 you get 0.13... Then Kill counts are involved. He has 405 kills and total kills are 2861. If you divide 405/2861 you get 0.14... points. If you sum up all the points, JC gets 0.42 Skill Points. And he has 1 point which is coming from the losing team. So 1 + 0.42 equals 1.42 points. Let me know what you think. Cheers,1 point

Dear members of the treasury committee, With some delay, please find attached the details of expenses engaged for FOSDEM 2019 in February. Five members of WFG were able to attend and to spread the word about the game. Just like last year, I propose to have SPI send the money to me, which I will immediately forward to the attendees, in order to minimize the number of transactions. We are looking forward to reading your reply and we are happy to answer any additional question you might have. Itms, on behalf of the attendees. FOSDEM-2019.pdf1 point

I'm not saying is a connection. is similar idea different backgrounds.1 point

What I'm saying is that there is a scientific consensus that they're natural formations. It's basically a scam by a Bosnian businessman, Semir Osmanagić, to develop the area as a tourist attraction... But yes, tumuli themselves seem to be associated with the Neolithic expansion, which is also why you find them across such a large range.1 point

You mean the player colours as defined in simulation/data/settings/player_defaults.json? That's very easy to modify; you can also use diplomacy colours (customizable under Settings/Options/In Game). However, it won't make much of a difference if a texture hardly contains any player colour.1 point

is similar to AoE button iii i proposed many years ago. basically panic button to select all military units even if are not idle. is some old ticket now. https://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/13641 point

Mound burials and tumuli come from the neolithic. Saint-Michel tumulus in France is dated from the 5th millennium BC for example. The White Monument in the plain Tell Banat in Syria is an example from the third millennium Early Bronze Age tumulus, simultaneous of the oldest pyramid in Egypt.1 point

People are free to create mods with enhanced textures, but I don't think it's a good idea to include two versions in the main distribution; the art/textures/skins/ folder is already close to 1 GB. There must be cleverer options; cf. Unit Silhouettes.1 point

Wanted, yes apparently. Doable... Heh. 200+ textures to remake... Plus every single one of the actors to change...1 point

It's a Kurgan... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurgan Kurgans are tombs/tumuli. (South Asian) Stupas are not (contain relics instead).1 point

I like that, and I guess, to a degree it's already being done (Vanilla - DE). I'm sure such an option is doable and wanted. I'm not holding my breath for the next alpha though1 point

Honestly I think the colours are supposed to look a little washed out/faded/natural/subtle/organic... Especially for basic troops. Champions and Heroes could have more saturated colours but the common foot folk are supposed to go to battle, not a royal banquet. The toned down saturation makes it more historical looking, while the highly saturated ones make it look more cartoony. I think the highly saturated player colour all over the place works well for games like Empires Apart, which is much more stylized and orientated towards fantasy-history, but it doesn't work so well for a game like 0AD that achieves a relatively high degree of visual "realism" for a game of this specific type. Overly saturated player colour all over the place can easily become an eyesore on maps with increasing levels of naturalism. I understand that there is always a trade off between playability and aesthetics, but I think this is too much.1 point

WHY DO WE ALWAYS FIGHT ABOUT THIS. JUST INCREASE THE SATURATION OF THE PLAYER COLOR LIKE IN DELENDA EST. KEEP A CONSISTENT PLAYER COLOR SCHEME ON ALL THE UNIT TEXTURES. GAWWWWDUH.1 point

(The rejoined player has g_Farms empty, so when the water rises, the non-rejoined players have that field removed but the rejoined player doesn't? Should be fixable by having g_Farms = GetEntitiesByClassor something. Or if it it's a Trigger property then it's serialized)1 point

Yes, BigTiger recently made them available as a mod you can download here: https://github.com/BigTiger7/0ad_flora/tree/master/Bigtiger_Flora_Mod_dev Yeah, however, the initial goal was to add more maps to your map pack. Though you could keep all the contestants' maps while only the winner would be added to the main game. I'd suggest you look at the maps inside the flora mod, they are gorgeous and could give everyone ideas on how to use the decals he made.1 point
