I've also decided we need new baobabs, they're really amazing looking trees irl but they're pretty much indistinguishable from the rest at the moment, a real shame if you ask me5 points

The purpose of Wildfire Games is to create free software. From what I can tell 0 A.D. is one of the highest quality free video games and probably the most qualitative free RTS videogame. It seems silly to depart from that unique position to become a lower tier proprietary RTS. Doing free software means that one can't sell licensed copies of code or artfiles like thankforpie proposed if one wants to remain an organization operating exclusively to produce free software (because free software grants everyone the right to make free copies). That doesn't mean that one can't use crowdfunding to further 0 A.D. And the fact that free software is a charitable cause gives WFG and donors tax-exemption at least.4 points

With a general decline in activity on the part of current moderators has surfaced a clamour for new administrators of the lobby. Numerous times have inappropriate nicknames or impolite behaviour been observed by players, only to have nothing done about the issue due to the lack of available lobby authorities. While this does not mean that we should rush headlong into appointing a new moderator, it must be said that if a suitable candidate appears, it should be considered worthwhile to make use of such zeal. The above user has had a sublimely crystalline behaviour record, seeing as the only time they managed to "trigger" the lobby bot was when mistyping the word "shift" into some variation containing a toxic expression - all this while instructing a newbie in basic game controls. Therefore I would commend this user to the Wildfire Games team as a good candidate for the post of Lobby Moderator. Of course, a trial period may provide considerable insight as to the adequacy of TYLER1. Such a period would prove to be instructive for both sides. I invite colleague @user1 to make deeper inquiry into the candidate's behaviour record, or just a general statement of opinion.3 points

Hello, I didn't had time to make account here, so I am here at now already and want to write something. I am not goin' to report players, because I don't remember which games I won and I don't have time to watch replays.. Just wanna to write about upgrading report system in 0 A.D.. Maybe when player (noob) will end game for not losing points, he will get point to losses, like win system. BUT, it's too bad for players with network isuess, so, let's make VOTE system for ending game after /accept or /decline command. OR system with those tricks, like in others games named Host migration.. Someone who is hosting will get disconnected, and 2nd player will get host. Quitters has no chance to be best with this thing, cuz they will losse anyway... It's hard to write something like this in code, but 0 A.D. is great game and I hope it will be possible to make something like this I don't know who to tag, but want to see this by admin of 0 A.D. or programmer/creator.. Adding some images from another games to show what I mean, or check youtube for more.. @user1 Thanks3 points

lol... I think we should actively avoid those things... It's not like it adds anything desirable to the gameplay...3 points

Position: Multiplayer Lobby Moderator. Do you understand that Wildfire Games is a non-commercial project, work for 0 A.D. is volunteer, and work is done for free? Yes, i do understand. Do you agree to distribute all your work for Wildfire Games under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license? Yes. Are you sure you are not wanting to work on something programming related? (Then you don't need to send in an application form.) Yes i am sure. Name: (For my last Name, please ask privatly). Email: Location: Central European Time. Availability: In general, i should have time about 20 o´clock. Nearly every day. At least 2 Hours a day. Some days it might be more. I doubt that anything will change in 6 months. My job is stable and i do not have any plans on changing anything currently. Age: Occupation: I work for a big Company that sells Cars. I would like to keep more information about that a secret. If anyone is interested in knowing more, im open for personal messages. Skills and Experience: Thats a hard question for me. What exactly can be count as Experience or Skills? Im supervising new people in the Company im working at. In my opinion, that makes me resonable and able to hold authority. At the same time, i am able to hold friendly conversations with people, even if those people are angry or impolite towards me. Motivation: What really motivates me is the fact, that i love to use the Lobby for a quick chat with people that i know. If i can help other people holding such conversations, and even help them with their problems. Is there really more need to say? Personality: I see myself as a friendly and funny person. Short Essay: I first found out about Wildfire games, when i searched for games simmiliar to AOE. I think that it must be about 2 years now. Apart from what i already gained through the game itself and the people playing it, i would like to gain more expierence in communicating with people, sharing opinions, knowledge and simply to have a great time in enyoing what i like to enjoy, gaming. Interests and Hobbies: I enjoy working out, listening to music and of course, playing games. Sometimes i go out and meet up with friends, and once every few months i like to write cards to people that i know around the world. Im interested in gaming overall but also in Books. Staff: - Community: Im part of the League of Legends Community. Unfortunatly, that it is. Favorite Game: Currently my favorite game would be League of Legends together with 0ad and Apex Legends. Overall i enjoy RTS and Shooter. Work Examples: As already mentioned, i am supervising new people in the Company im workting at. Other then that i would like to say, that i already try to help new people in the Lobby when they have questions that i am able to answer. Unfortunately that should be all of my personal experience. @Hannibal_Barca @user12 points

I don't know what that is. Even when I google it for mac, I can't see anything... I've played computer games my whole life, but I've never considered myself a gamer. In the real world I have gamer friends, and I'm definitely not in that category. I'm as casual as it gets. I never had money to buy a lot of games, and when I started working, gaming wasn't on the list of things I wanted to spend my money on. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with it if someone wants to spend all their extra cash on it, I just never did. I also don't like the industry itself so why finance them? One of the many reasons I like 0AD. Because there's no money involved. I did play a bunch of less than legal versions of the iconic RTS and city builder games and played an unholy amount of hours on friends' computers back in the day too, lol. Either way, forgive my noobness, for I really am a noob, and I've never hid it. In fact, I embrace it! I'm a filthy casual and I love it! That's also one of the reasons why I'm active on the forums. There's a huge number of casual gamers enjoying 0AD for good reason. It's good fun! But we casuals don't have a voice, because were too in awe by the presence of all these pro's and are too shy to say that we can't figure out our non existent settings on our systems (a lot of macs have one graphics system, or something...), so I'm here to give a voice to the voiceless! We casuals would like some anti aliasing in-game, because we're too dense to figure out our gpu's graphics settings2 points

Just because one organization does it too doesn't mean that it's ethical or legal. The key point is one needs a legal entity in order to receive money and explain it to the tax people. I had asked stk once how they are organized with that regard and it seems all money goes to one specific contributor. The natural person is the legal entity who is part of the contract of PayPal and has or would have to pay taxes. Wildfire Games is in a different situation, we are a member project of Software in the Public Interest. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, hold Wildfire Games funds and accept donations. An organization is only then a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization if they are run exclusively for charitable purposes. Notice that this doesn't make Wildfire Games a non-profit organization, but surely everything that goes through SPI (most notably the SPI PayPal account) must be exclusively for charitable purposes. So that doesn't stop individual Wildfire Games members from using their natural person as a for-profit legal entity. But once the payments exceed "reasonable compensation" and the charitable purpose / free software status of 0 A.D. would be in question, then the IRS would also have to reconsider whether SPI is operated exclusively for charitable purposes. I just wonder whether Wildfire Games would actually have to sell licenses, or whether offering services to achieve charitable purposes against reasonable compensation isn't already sufficient. If people want a new pathfinder and if a new pathfinder costs much more than we have in the account, and if we know someone who can actually do one, then do we really need artists to create some custom player models instead of going for a new pathfinder campaign? Also need to mention that historically 0 A.D. was created specifically for that reason that people were unhappy with proprietary Age of Empires 2 and wanted to have free software that gives them the freedom to change every aspect of the game. So it's not only a unique position and a charitable cause to give up, but creating proprietary content also gives up on the historic reason for 0 A.D. being free software: https://web.archive.org/web/20080711014849/http://wildfiregames.com/0ad/page.php?p=14922 points

One layer bud, there are no source texture files. and i have a whole one blender file for all the character animations I ever make. You'd be looking at layer 3 Elite_swordsman.zip2 points

the problem with high density is that it'll look a bit like a green smear from the average camera distance. You don't need so many polys to look good from most angles. I was running around Fallout 4 having a looksie at the environments and most of their ground foliage and saplings looked to be anywhere between 16-48 triangles, which was interesting to me because some of the examples I found were much bigger than my player model, and that's a AAA fps rpg. Their trees were also remarkably sparse and still looked decent, but that's to be expected post-apocalypse environment i guess lol2 points

I'd personally prefer "assembly", or "assembly of princes". The term "theater" might be confusing to players, as they might thinks it's like a Greek theatre...2 points

I just learnt a new word Anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing would do absolute wonders! Whatever happened to the anti-aliasing solution Siramods came up with? It looked amazing! Currently the vast majority of screenshots have terrible aliasing, including some of the official promo screens that float around the internet...1 point

Hello people, This post is aimed at the 0AD Devs and more specifically, people that are aware of how the component and AI files function. Lately, I have been working on a large AI project for HC and recently made an attempt to register a new event inside the components that I can use inside the AI files. However, I am pretty sure I am still missing something after going through multiple files and testing my attempts. For example, I tried to replicate the method that was used for the TrainingFinished event. The actual registering of this particular event seems to be taking place in the productionqueue: https://gyazo.com/0da3f8f4de7211345e41c9f95c3a57eb Afterward, it seems the communication between the component and the AI takes place inside the AIProxy and AI Interface components: https://gyazo.com/97879f508c2280e2b5dbb3c0888f15f8 https://gyazo.com/0210965d087367d766b53e3c2cb7fc65 I am aware of the Trigger component file, but this doesnt seem to have a specific connection to the AI files in my testing. Whenever I try to copy this method of registering a new event and read it from the AI files it gives me the following error: https://gyazo.com/b85b0c086a517b3408682a44f09fc7f9 This leads me to the gui files where the startgame function is called, which (I assume) goes through the source code where these events might be checked. Also, I tried to replicate this using the ResearchFinished event, which is only registered inside the Trigger component. When I try to communicate this event using the AI components, it does not give me this error, but also doesnt actually run the OnResearchFinished function, which seems to be called somewhere from the source as well, since I cant find where this is called within any of the component files or other files that I went through for that matter. I believe that the code that calls these functions is looking for a function that starts with "On blah blah", since other functions that dont start with these 2 characters are ignored, but this is just a sidenote. Finally, I have come to the conclusion that I am probably missing some kind of event handler register that must be done for any event whether it be used for the Trigger or AI Interface component. I have no clue where this is located and also leads to my actual question. I would like to know what I am doing wrong here and/or even better, a description on how to register new events and communicate these properly between scripts. If anyone is able to explain this to me, I would greatly appreciate this. Anyway, thanks for reading this long post for the people who have and I hope someone can give me some insight into this problem. Exodarion1 point

I think the idea has quite a bit of promise. My suggestion, though, is to make the older civilizations be able to develop into the new ones, instead of making bronze age civs unintuitively balanced with e.g. medieval ones. For instance, the Mycenaeans could develop into either of the classical Greek civilizations, and those in turn could develop into the Byzantine empire.1 point

So you redact your expressed donor intent that I acted upon for 4 weeks? I guess everyone posting here only wants to play with less lag and doesn't really mind whether it's achieved by threading or by writing a new pathfinder, so perhaps one can satisfy that demand already with the existing but unfinished pathfinder threading patch.1 point

@Sundiata Okay. So ReShade is an external software (Windows only AFAIK (Linux with trickery)) that injects Shaders (Postprocessing effects if you will, so basically the game computes an image Shaders change it by applying different kind of filters) into the computer memory to alter the game display. AFAIK no one has tried to take their shaders and put it into our game. So you'd need someone to do that first. And secondly someone else from the team to review that.1 point

Selling code or art should be possible, STK does just that (as well as Red Hat and other commercial free software companies): https://supertuxkart.net/Donate But indeed it is not needed until we have money available and no plan to use it.1 point

0 AD textures also suffer alot from the lack of anisotropic filtering, lots of detail gets blurred.1 point

You can open a ticket, that would be nice to have! I suppose what you'd need is to make an unselectable gaia entity of them (just like hawks, indeed), and tweaking the motionflying component so it doesn't need to take off etc.1 point

Here's a quick thought. Introduce rams to the town phase in some way. Since walls are present, it could, if the map has a large amount of choke-points, create a deadlock that cannot be broken until the City Phase. Maybe this is okay, but I think that even having a weak ram unit would do a lot to make the town phase more interesting. On another note, is there any plan to make walls more affordable?1 point

Your shields are really pretty nice @Alexandermb ! These ones however, could be problematic to distinguish since the player color is really tiny and narrowly displayed: And these ones with some player color, especially the player 7: The rectangular ones are very cool on the skirmishers: Some patterns have very often trouble to be displayed correctly, like this one that appears often like this: I know it is based on this shield I suggested, but it seems a bit hard to have the right condition from random generation to display it correctly. Maybe it should be better if the griffin/bird heads were a bit smaller1 point

The textures are all taken from photos that I took, and other textures are from the 0AD files. I've sign the waiver, but if further proof is required that these are pictures I took please let me know.1 point

There's a couple of pretty memorable quotes in there, like: "Tadaaa, there it is, now you can go home" "I don't know what the hell I'm doing, but if you wing it hard enough, you can do anything" "This is truly an awful program" "Yo, this is where we get whack!" "Is that detailed enough for ya Stan?" "I've got to piss like a Russian race horse" "If you wanted a tutorial, you should have asked for a tutorial. Please don't ask for a tutorial..." That last one killed me, because I did actually ask for a tutorial, and you definitely delivered a tutorial... Of sorts... Thanks man! Anyway, I'm trying... Not quite succeeding, but trying nonetheless... Acacia attempt 3... In Dutch, we would say: "Schoon van ver, maar verre van schoon", which roughly translates into "pretty from afar, but far from pretty"... I have two main problems I see, which is that the geometry of the branches sucks from up close. They're just bent plains (2 bends). And the tris count is getting too high 700 tris, and none of the faces have been doubled with flipped normals to counteract the backface culling, which would increase the tris count to 1200... By the way, why can't backface culling be disabled for trees? Because doubling the branches/leaves to counteract it, essentially doubles the geometry for trees, doesn't it? Is rendering two faces of a single polygon really more "expensive" than rendering 2 separate one sided polygons? Anyway, close up of the ugly: One thing I did like about my attempt, is the detail in the acacia specific texture (512x512). Which is why I decided to post anyway: I'll probably get back to my flora modeling attempts at some time in the future, but for now, if anyone more skilled than me feels compelled to give the acacia a go, here's the CC0 texture I made using wikimedia CC0 images. It was pretty tedious to manually separate the leaves, but with a few adjustments, it would look pretty good, I think... And here's a previous version: Used for this attampt:1 point

We welcome the constructive approach chosen by the creators of Fork AD. We didn't, indeed, agree on the design of the development environment, on the communication methods, and on how to ultimately make the process enjoyable for all team members. We are happy that they can still contribute to 0 A.D. as a project, even if it is as a separate group. We are grateful for their many past contributions and we hope that the new situation brings balance to both teams. Nevertheless, Wildfire Games wishes to clarify that we have been making progress on the game continuously and continue doing so. Much of the recent work was either administrative, or targeted at the future Alpha 24, thus could not be directly seen in the number of commits made. Members of the community have expressed a desire to be more involved and informed, so we are taking measures to open up some internal discussions. This will allow our hard work to be more visible. On behalf of the team,1 point
