  4. Thracians: Random image references (architecture and units) @stanislas69 A small reference update. Thracian units will be very easy to do, with the exception of siege equipment and navy (which seems to be more obscure). Architecture, as you've noticed will be more challenging, but I think you already have a good handle on it ("Greco-Barbarian"). I elect the palace at Seuthopolis as the Thracian CC, and should be the most Hellenic looking structure (although using those wooden shingles would tie it in well with the rest of the architecture set). I shared this one before (Seuthopolis): Detail of the palace I elect for CC. I'd suggest discarding those defensive walls (part of the city walls), and using a long Greek Stoa as an approximate reference for the main building. The colonnaded courtyard is just perfect. Tomb entrance, shared by lion in a previous post: Interior plan of the tomb Starosel, a Thracian temple/tomb complex, built inside a tumulus: A fortified hill top royal residence called Kozi Gramadi: Thracian village life: Units: They had chariots! The restored decoration on the chariot actually gives some clues to (elite) architecture: Art.. Good quality representations in my opinion (based on actual finds of weapons and equipment): (This guy's rhomphaia looks a little weird, but the rest is on point) And some Thracian gold: The Panagyurishte Treasure (These guys have some full on Iranian influence...) I'm just absolutely in love with the fact that Thracians had art representing Sub-Saharan Africans (probably Kushites). To make it even more awesome, Kushites had Greek (Attic) pottery depicting Thracians in great detail. Even more amazing, there is Greek art depicting "Aethiopians" carrying those typically Thracian peltast shields (pelte). Almost incredible, or fantastical, one might say, but Kushites actually travelled through Thracian territory as mercenaries in Xerxes army during his invasion of Greece. How cool is that?! Antiquity is so interesting... more gold... If anyone in this forum speaks Russian or Bulgarian, they could be of great help in the research. Most of the juicy stuff seems to be in those languages... Here are some good sources. I honestly didn't read through all of it, but its definitely worth a look for anyone looking for a little more in depth info on the Thracians: https://cdn.preterhuman.net/texts/history/military_history/Osprey - MAA 360 - The Thracians 700 BC - AD 46.pdf https://www.metmuseum.org/pubs/bulletins/1/pdf/3258668.pdf.bannered.pdf http://www.archaeology.ru/Download/Niculice/Niculice_1987_Severnye.pdf https://guidesbg.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/A_Guide_to_Thracian_Bulgaria.pdf https://www.iianthropology.org/ChristopherWebber.pdf

  8. Nanyue was not exactly a part of Han Empire at this point of time, but there are Han (and Qin, for that matter) terracottas dressed in similar type of sleeveless armor, so I say go for it. (Notice that his armor covers more than the typical Han Dynasty "pectoral" armor) Oh, there is also a similar sleeveless lamellar suit belonged to early Eastern Han period Xianbei, so I think Xiongnu minifaction can also use it. \ Early Eastern Han Xianbei armor, replica. It's almost identical to Han armor.

  9. Hi there. Mayorcete here again. Glad you liked my last 0 A.D. video. I'm sure it will bring a lot of new players to the game and I do it totally on purpose. I love this project and I want people to know it and play it. Plus. This kind of videos grant me a lot of views and subs. Anything related to AOE that is not AOE makes for an awesome and trending video. About the Spanish community I can really back what you say. Spain has a good lot of AOE lovers. But we shouldn't see the situation on my channel as somth which has to do with the viewers, but the other way around. I've been in YT for quite long and I've been trying to promote strategy (and overall RTS) on a massive scale. So you can tell that the situation of the Spanish community is one of a kind. You could say that we are not as many as we seem, but we have a better stablished community thanks to the content we are making. I've even encouraged other YT friends to play AOE and similar games (see Matakito on YT), going one step further. You see; after all Mayorcete Gaming is not only the biggest AOE channel in Spanish, but in the entire world, so the way it affects the public is rather unique and difficult to analise in terms of interest over RTS. All I can say is... Keep working on this wonderful game. I'll keep promoting it. New factions like the kushite will always let me make new vídeos for sure, and new alpha versions will serve as well. Nice work and keep it up. BTW. Now vídeo:

  10. Dear players, We have a great announcement to share with you! Wildfire Games and DBolical (the team behind IndieDB and ModDB, already famous in our community) have worked together to offer you a big surprise. DBolical created mod.io, a new website for sharing and downloading game mods, coming with an API. It is a bit like Steam Workshop, but open-source. In a nutshell, this website will allow content creators to put mods online and 0 A.D. will be able to download them directly... starting from Alpha 23! This has required a lot of work, and this is the reason why the release was delayed. We are now in actual feature freeze, and since a part of the team didn't work on mod.io and focused on fixing bugs instead, the release should happen quickly. We hope that your enthusiasm towards mod.io will be enough to forgive us for the delay and the deliberate lack of communication. As you can see, the mod.io website is not yet public, but we have access to it and we are able to publish official mods (i.e. the language packs for Chinese and Japanese). They will appear before the release. On April 26th, mod.io will go public and you will be able to create an account there and add mods. Don't hesitate to report bugs here or directly to the mod.io team, they will fix them before the official launch on May the 10th. On that date, their marketing campaign will start and we should get a lot of exposure from this, since only a couple games use mod.io as of today. One last thing for the modders among you: we have added a security step in order to make sure 0 A.D. will not download broken and/or malevolent mods from mod.io. In order for mods to be available for download in 0 A.D., they will need to be signed by the team. Contact us when you are ready to publish your mod, we will test it, sign it and give you the signature to put online. Your mod will be approved and available in 0 A.D. after that. We hope that you are as excited as we are about this, and we are looking forward to seeing your mods on this new platform soon. Don't hesitate to ask questions here if you have any!

  16. No inscriptions - that would imply writing - but engravings. Most likely deer, animals, and hunting scenes or possibly horses and warriors; those are common Scythian motives. (And yes, I fully agree Scythian jewellery is beautiful.)

  21. In this case, no you can not. You can only host the lobby 24/7 (Which is useless because we already do), there is currently no way to host a headless game server, and there are no commands to set up the game without the host.

  24. You can play with emission rate and the lifetime. Big emission rate means constant flow longer lifetime means that the ray will stay visible longer.

  27. Following the upgrade to SM45, I've been looking at profiling Spidermonkey (I've also been considering what we'd need to update to HEAD, i.e. 62, and that sounds somewhat doable) This has been a long-standing issue. We do have ways to do it, Engine.ProfileStart and Engine.ProfileStop, but they: can't use RAII so you need to call the stop before any return, which is troublesome Probably incur high performance penalty, which makes fine grained profiling difficult Can only tell you about what you expect to be slow Spidermonkey has an API to do very precise logging, the Tracelogger. There is an existing tool to analyse this but it's fairly unreadable. However, a script allows outputting things that can be easily converted into a profiler2 parsable JSON file, and then we could use Profiler2.html to read it. The problem here is that the Tracelogger is extremely fine-grained (function level), so it outputs ridiculous amounts of data in even a few seconds. There's internal API support for enabling or disabling that, but we'll have to patch the JS API to do call it ourselves. What I'm envisioning is having an Engine.JSProfileStart / Stop that enables the tracelogger output, call this in fairly high level functions (such as Timer.js::OnUpdate) and then see what this outputs.

  33. Hi Temple Thanks for confirming the bells use in A23. Like Lister, garrisoning all units was very handy when the enemy was running amok within your city. In the near future, would be nice to see this feature re-added but understand the reason for removing due to bugs, although personally, I didn't notice any of them.

  37. I loled at the Youtube comments concerning Steam. Lion has beat me to the punch. So far the main complaints are optimization and AI toughness. Because of that "other game" the latter complaint seems beautiful to look at. I'd prefer a tough AI than a "cheating AI" or "unplayably broken AI".

  38. I think they're set to hold pos by default, and if not then they should be. We need real attack move and we need better defaults for unit stances. The current default unit stance is "suicide".

  40. The fancy grass textures are weird, but not particularly laggy that I can tell. Basically, I'm wondering if we should be looking for new art (probably?), or looking to create more specific shaders for different types of transparent models(maybe?), or some combination of the two or if someone knows of another approach to getting good looking trees without eating your gpu.
    1 point
  41. I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. I literally painted greek acropolis into a giant field of grass and could not produce any lag. :| I think grass might actually count as a solid model but I'm not really sure. To be fair I was honestly surprised that it didn't lag hardly at all even after painting that much grass. It even receives shadows!

  42. Or that... Thanks. My Latin is a little rusty, and by rusty I mean nearly non-existant Sum, es, est, sumus, estis, sunt is pretty much what I remember from high-school... Oh, and the compluvium and impluvium of the Roman domus, which actually seems to be missing in the Roman house models in-game, so I'll add that to my wishlist for alpha 24..
    1 point
  43. To clarify, we will only sign mods that are compatible with the Alpha releases, those should be kinda static and have "releases". But you are free to distribute pyromod files anytime, those are now easily installable by just double-clicking them.
