For A27, I'd like to make mixins for the Cataphract and Chariot classes of units. Mixins are essentially like "trait" files that can add to or amend stats to different templates. So, I can create a "Cataphract" mixin that changes the Champion Cavalry Spearman templates for specific civs whose champion cav are technically cataphracts, not just your standard cavalry spearman (similar to how pikemen aren't just uber spearmen). So, what we have to determine is what makes a Cataphract different from a standard champion spear cavalry unit. Same goes for Chariots vs. Cavalry Archers/Javelineers. First, the Cataphract civs: Han Chinese Persians Seleucids Standard Champion Cavalry Spearman stats: Cost 150 food 80 wood 100 metal 25 seconds 1 pop Attack Damage 8 hack 6 pierce Range 4 Bonus 1.75x vs. Cavalry Repeat Time 1.25 seconds Damage Per Second (dps) 6.4 hack 4.8 pierce Bonus dps 11.2 hack 8.4 pierce Health 240 hp Resistance 8 hack 7 pierce 20 crush WalkSpeed 18 What can we do to make the Cataphract stand out from this? Additional armor, altered cost, attack stats, walk speed, etc. are all on the table.2 points

Maybe you should talk about things you know instead of assuming that developers all have the same job.2 points

I suggested Zelensky couple of weeks ago not as political agenda, purely to recognize the guy’s confidence and leadership. I have no horse in this fight. Fair point that he is not at all the game’s timeline, can’t refute that. But for those who get political and start talking about what he’s done or could do in the future, let’s not pretend like most of the past emperors, kings, etc have a spotless record…. They all have tons of blood and suffering on their hands yet get idolised across society and history books. I thought naming the new alpha after Zelensky could be a nice hommage to someone who arguably changed modern international politics (with the safety net of the west). Just my 2cts. Been playing the game for 5 years and will still play even if it’s called after Zrump.2 points

First of all, i created the map for Version 23, i have put all the textures and objects at the start the script, can i ask someone to do me a favour and correct the templates for Version 25. The map should be suitable for multiplayer. The texture simulates a snowline, so some of the texture and objects have two arrays to pick from (base-texture, cliffs, trees) Sorry. i try to free some space for the attachments, so far i am failing carpathian.zip1 point

For example, if you have 10 barracks selected, but you only have enough money to build 8 spearman, you click the icon to queue them up (even though it says 10), and 8 barracks will queue up 1 unit each. Another example.. 30 houses selected, but only enough to produce 10 women; click the icon and 10 women will be produced.1 point

At 200 population 2 vs 2, even with the graphics turned down to maximum the game jerks to death. The fluidity is ruined. Formations hesitate to fight their way through, often react badly to the enemy. It's super annoying. No ease, no fun. A good old stronghold from the 2000s works much better. Too bad, it was tempting. Disappointed.1 point

Mmm, I was hoping that acceleration would be a feature that does not affect infantry units, but rather just cavalry. Hopefully it can look more like this after we play pre-release versions.1 point

My apologies, I was not clear. I should have said that their relative strengths should at least be comparable. I certainly don't think the heroes should be identical, in fact quite the opposite. Creative hero auras make the late game more interesting.1 point

I disagree here, for the sake of differentiation. Maybe as @wraitii proposed, they could in tiers, but I'd rather not have 14 identical civs with different art.1 point

The "Imperial court" + "Civil Engineering 1" + "Civil Engineering 2" means that a Han civic center can get up to 5940 hp with the possibility to shoot 43 arrows per 2 sec. Caros ability may be too strong in that context since it would be equivalent to 30 extra units garrisonned in that civic center (I never tried if several Caros could cumulate their ability). Caros create a big difference between having 1 building firing 40 arrows or 2 buildings firing 20 arrows each. The "imperial court" upgrade may result in making the balancing of defensive structure a bit too complicated (D4510). Maybe increasing the number of units that can be garrisonned by only 10 instead of 20 (and adjusting its cost accordingly) would be better for a first test of the feature?1 point

Corrals shouldn't be nerfed: They are bad in the early game anyway so the fact that you require phasing up for bigger animals only makes it worse. And animals give experience now, that might be a design mistake. Why would a soldier learn how to fight by butchering domesticated animals? This doesnt make sense while experience from hunting makes some sense. In the long run your cavalry will reach rank 3 so they lose half of their gather speed and this makes it harder to use the corrals. Operating corrals with rank 3 cavalry will not save you much more population space than operating fields. Reducing the armor of pikemen is a step into the right direction but I think they should gain 10% attack in return. Right now the macedonians are the ones who have the biggest disadvantage of this nerf and they arent really the ones who deserve it the most. Acceleration seems to be pointless. It makes the game more complicated and reduces the fun.1 point

Indeed the kennel is badly designed. The problem is that people doesn't want to check what was a kennel in the past and prefer thinking on their own (and after they are surprised it was wrong). Preconceived ideas and an excessive amount of modern representations through cartoons and movies are making people to believe a kennel is a tiny single house for a dog. Anyone can check what was a medieval kennel and how it looked, it would be already a good start to realize that the idea of a tiny kennel is bad. So yeah, the current kennel is a lazy model with the least amount of critical thinking and realism.1 point

In my opinion, the biggest problem with catapults in A25 is the unit AI bug. Sometimes they refuse to fire, other times they refuse to shoot at the selected target and packs randomly. Aside from that, I think A23 catapults were too OP due to high armour and high damage against units. If we do not give them splash damage but a reasonable firing rate and a functional AI, then they would become usable again.1 point

Where is the finished version of this map? The one in Community Maps 1 and 2 mods seems to be the version 1.2.1 point

One can type cheats in the chatbox. Try: "exodia 1" You could also consider saving the game and loading it later.1 point

Zelensky can be a suggestion, but the stuff about China vs Taiwan is absurd and irrelevant. Also I think Zelensky is a bad idea because he was born in 1978, almost 2000 years away from the time period we are concerned with. Furthermore, the political implications... it would suggest that the 0A.D community and WFG are supporting 1 political figure, which is not an accurate reflection of what many players think, nor is it beneficial for anyone, especially considering players who are located in countries where the mainstream view is different from yours.1 point

That's all well and good, but there have been numerous massacres, conflicts and human suffering within recent memory even if they don't exactly dominate the news. What's the criteria for being mentioned in the title? Rockets literally fly into hospitals and apartments annually on the West Bank. Anyone still remembers Yemen and Syria? Whatever happened in Myanmar? What has Columbia gone through? The list is so long it's @#$%ing depressing. Suffering does not discount suffering. But acknowledging one while ignoring everything else, is doing the same, especially when more people have died and are dying elsewhere. I propose maintaining the status quo just like we have done so in the past with wars and conflicts that have had much more casualties.1 point

We could even start a peaceful discussion here, citing other countries that are being attacked and destroyed with the support of the same ones that today condemn Russia, there are no saints and geopolitics and powers at war who will only suffer will be the people of the countries in conflict. And of course, on sacred European soil, every drop of blood weighs far more than anywhere else in the world. But the most important argument has already been cited here:1 point
