one could have an aura applied to units in the forest, that: - lower their vision range - make them invisible to enemy units - make them capable of seeing other invisible units. Provided that forest grooves are implemented, all these changes seem not too hard. Hardest thing seems to me to make the aura of the groove responsive to deforestation. I'm not sure about how to do point 2 e 3 either, but the undying nephalim did those already.3 points

@Ceres Warships are warships and traders are traders. Don't see your suggestion work, might also not make sense. Maybe just send land traders to the dock and merchant ships from the dock? I believe you can put land traders into merchant ship to increase their profit: I did that some time, don't know the math and if those stats are correct. 15 traders would give +300% profit?1 point

Nah I just meant some ships are water traders. Detecting you need to board ships would be complicated I think.1 point

It conveniently happens when you're enjoying yourself. 9/10 times it's likely intentional. For @2 I don't think people, in general, appreciate things that make stuff easier or protect them as you do not notice those things. Therefore, you tend to underappreciate them. Conversely, people definitely don't appreciate things that create agony and make it known. Therefore, a lot of effort that has been put into DDOS prevention goes unappreciated (e.g., password games, user1 taking time to read my pms and those of others, etc). Mainly because ddos isn't an issue until it is an issue. @Angenwho implemented password protected games has a great idea on a whitelist that ties in with buddies list and makes passwords unnecessary. I really look forward to the alpha that has that feature as more people will be likely to use it as password don't 'flow.'1 point

That should not be hard, I guess you can use health variants. I.e only the grove with full health has the aura and if it gets damage it switches to another actor that doesn't have the aura. And yes the forest groves should also be compatible to auras as they are just normal entities.1 point
-
That would make it very secure indeed. However, there are still 2 problems with whitelist: 1. The hacker already knows woodpecker's IP address, so he will get attacked directly, even when he is not playing 0ad. The hacker can just attack his home network at any time they want. 2. Whitelisting makes genuine new players too difficult to join, which might discourage some from multiplayer.1 point

structures are buildings. is that what you referring to? forest groves are in delenda est only, I don't know how much are they compatible with this kind of aura design.1 point

It's possible in theory to reduce vision range using an aura Here are a list of things than can be affected by techs aura. It's missing the Damage tags in some places and needs to be updated. https://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/TechModifications1 point

I sometimes play Field Of Glory: Empires since I don't like to play Paradox games anymore. FOG:E allows for you to manually play out combat in FOG2 using a savefile trick. In FOG2 the experience or managing troops is extremely realistic. Foot and horse skirmish units have a distinct use compared to medium and heavy infantry. It really feels, even being turn based, like you have skirmish screens. 0AD lacks this feeling though perhaps it is because formations don't work fully yet. Hopefully it isn't a larger issue with RTS games. Skirmishers are basically untouchable by medium and heavy infantry and even heavy cav or chariots, unless you block them in so they can't run. However their ability to deal damage is a bit limited. Skirmish units can lock each other into melee as well so heavier units can hit them. Typically in a battle both sides send out their smirmish troops and fight for superiority. If you have a size advantage or simply win the skirmish battle quickly you can start picking away at heavier units. Skirmish units can also be used as more mobile flanking or backstabbing units though their charge is weaker. Is there any plan to provide that kind of experience either through formations or some other method? Also the combat between the heavier units feels a bit better in style as well with lines of battle, flanking, and envelopment.1 point

In A25 the AI still generates high numbers of traders shuttling between two markets, this seems to be the main way it gathers resources1 point

Well... It was just an AI match. 4 very hard opponents and only 2 allies, but an AI match nevertheless Techs1 point

@chrstgtr@BreakfastBurrito_007@Player of 0AD@Gurken Khan@sarcoma@Ceres@bb_@Yekaterina Guys, 0ad already has a DDOS countermeasure and it works well. Use password-protected games. DO NOT HOST GAMES WITHOUT A PASSWORD. I REPEAT, DO NOT HOST GAMES WITHOUT A PASSWORD. Having a password prevents your IP to be shared with the lobby. Put the game password in the game name. It makes it more difficult for whoever does the DDOS stupidity. (and, if you know how, it can help narrow down the person as @bb_ pointed out) ALSO, CHANGE YOUR IP ADDRESSES weekly if you cannot do it daily. https://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/6136 Also, it's likely multiple randoms doing this. I do not believe it is one individual. This is not something that can be moderated and/or stopped easily. However, it's getting to the point where features in 0ad alpha are being implement that make DDOS more difficult to perform and the culprits can be narrowed down (Narrowed down by name and not by what IPs are DDOSing you). I have one instance of this, going back 2-3 months, where I changed my IP and hosted 2 games. The 2nd game was DDOSed. I do not believe I have the replays but have the mainlog and extracted names from the mainlog (made a simple python script to do it). Also, I have 1-2 instances of it happening after 3-6 games but I kept the mainlog for all games and have all names that joined. Basically, before each day I changed my IP address. I would only host games. I would not join any games. For each game I hosted that day I saved the mainlog file (and/or wouldn't restart client to continue adding to mainlog file). When DDOS would happen, only on my host, I'd stop and save the mainlog file. Then I'd change my IP address. Repeat and only host. If DDOS happened on a player joining my game I'd either rehost (usually w/o that player since their IP is compromised and they likely don't know how to change their IP address), if player couldn't rejoin, (while saving mainlog) and wait till I get hit. Below are the files, with date of game + my host IP address for those games. DDOSER here zip file is the one with 2 games. see HERE [Note: files uploading]). The person I was collaborating with is @aixo and he narrowed it down to people but to me it seemed like its randoms and multiple people doing it. This is because before A25 I had a notepad where I'd write names of people who joined games. However, you could get IP from lobby so it was pointless. @bb_ @Angen @wraitii Could it be possible, for administrative purposes, for the clients to send this data (stripped down and/or narrowed down) automatically to the 0ad server? This information, before being sent, could have private information hashed/removed by client. Based on "interactions" and "changed IP addresses" rank each player on probability of being a DDOSer. It could be used to map and narrow down the people who do this. Players then could "limit observers to clean players" or something along those lines.1 point

weirdjokes usually makes corrals, so that would explain the huge amount of food. it might make it easy to get a bunch of eco upgrades as they become available. If you have a bunch of resources into p3, then you can get a bunch of eco upgrades very quickly. I think this would also help with blacksmiths.1 point

perhaps it would be more logical to limit vision range in forest regions as seen in AOE4? 2:38 is where it shows the vision range behavior near forest. In this direction, wouldnt it be cool if a civ, hero, or unit had a vision range in forest perk? Imagine if naked fanatics could see farther in forests. an ambush could be set up by running into the forest, building an outpost for better vision, and waiting for the right moment to attack!1 point

The problem is not really the origin IP. Sure if you could find the DDOSer's IP address you could try to block him, but he might change his IP and start again. As long as he has your new IP, which he can now only get if he joins a match with you, he can DDOS you.1 point

Some models based on the Cantabra War. Several references to the weapons and costumes used by the Lusitanians comes from coins commemorating the Augustus period referring to the Roman victory over the Cantabrians, and that despite the name "cantabra", took over an alliance between Galaicos from the mouth of the Minho to today's Cantabria. This is also because, according to Estrabon, all the cimbros (Lusitanians, Galaicos and Cantabrios) were dressed in the same way and used the same weapons.1 point

As a pretty hardcore Bernie bro who had Biden far down on their list in the primary all the drama here is ridiculous. Firstly this was initiated by Trump. Secondly it isn't like Biden could have called the generals on the phone and been like: "Yo don't leave a bunch of top tier military equipment for the enemy." The military was in charge, not him. Additionally handling the collapse of the Afghan army any better was impossible. They were always going to fold without our support and obviously you can't say that during the operation. Of course they said the ANA would hold on. The UK was welcome to take over the leading role in the country if they don't like the US pulling out. They didn't though so they need to STFU. Especially Blair. All the military and natsec people are piling on Biden because they want to send a message to political leaders that they'll try to tank their careers if they don't endorse forever war. Half the people in the media giving out quotes are Raytheon board members and stuff. Of course they're mad. This was their golden goose. We'd been losing ground to the Taliban for months, they were only holding off on Kabul because they didn't wanna stop us from leaving. The real problem was all the contractors and their lobbyists and the politicans who danced to their tune pretending like the Afghan government was a real government that had the trust and respect of the populace and the line troops in the army. A bunch of corrupt warlords sucking on the Pentagon teat were never going to inspire the people to fight. You couldn't even go at it Kurdish style and arm the women who had a lot more to lose since the culture of the masses doesn't support that there. Of all the people involved in leadership Biden was the only one who really wanted to pull out and the only one who didn't have a motivation to flub the withdrawal. We are lucky he is an old man who wanted a leagacy of peace and pulled the trigger even knowing how hard all the special interests were going to @#$% on him. Not my favorite president but at least he wasn't a coward like Obama.1 point
