Hey folks, To get the hang of things here is the model and texture for the european bison. I worked from a 3000 tri model and a 2k complete texture and for the game the I tried to follow the bovidae specs found in the game file. I more than welcome feedback on any aspect. I got the textures from wiki commons and can provide the originals. I think I the back legs should be higher for the european bison but really after tweaking I could't tell. Engine compliant (i hope) version. 574 triangles, a slight more than the bovidae Eye candy hp and 2k texture version The files themselves Source Texture, used a mix of those.4 points

Hey all, Posting this as I'm not sure who specifically to talk to but to preface, I've been playing the game for a few weeks and I think its already amazing and still has so much potential. The one thing I feel that is lacking is the interface. There's some parts of it that aren't very intuitive and also visually could do with an overhaul. I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment due to lockdown and I also have 10 years in the business doing User Experience Research, User Experience Design and User Interface Design. I'd love to offer some help and expertise to the project but not sure who to reach out to about it. GG's4 points

Honestly, its stuff like this that could make this game stand out. Because right now, and this is saying this in the nicest possible terms, 0ad is an AOE clone. People in this thread are worried about a mostly competitive multiplayer scene, which I don't think we should think about right now. Personally, I think 0ad is at a point in dev where we need to start thinking about and implementing ideas like this ^ . We need to start making this game unique, flesh out its personality, and transform it from the historically accurate AOE clone it is, into its own game.4 points

I agree. I think it would be better to balance them around other civs from the americas. Rather than to Rome or Persia. Both are related to celebrating military victories so you could make the unique building train heroes. If yo use the observatory one you could also give it a big LOS, and maybe a unique tech.2 points

I now understand! There are two very interesting structures in Monte Alban, Building J (observatory / record of military conquests) and that of the dancers (a building clearly aimed at military victories).2 points

No problem for the licence. Happy to spread the freedoooom x-) @Stan` It took a look at the present elephant files. There are a lot of variations and the three subspecies plus the armor and the rest. I'm excited to tackle a ground-up redo if it's needed. However I'll train with other animals before to have a good workflow and understand how to correctly import the models and animations to the engine. Then if still needed I'm willing to do the elephants.2 points

Hey guys, here is my try at making mountains in 0 A.D. with the new random map "Alpine Mountains", inspired by the skirmish map of the same name : However, sometimes the generation can make a player separated from the rest due to forest blocking the path, this should be fixed sometimes later. The recommanded map sizes to put in the settings is one size larger than what you would typically do for mainland type maps. It would be something like Medium for 2-3 players, Normal for 4-5 players, Large for 6-8 players . Hope you will enjoy it. Download here : feldmap.zip1 point

That looks great! Finally looks like what we need! I like the back lighting highlight on his right side too. Very nice indeed.1 point

Honestly all the previous portraits were great. Do not let a roadblock take away all you've done so far. You can bake geometry on top of another (selected to active)1 point

I want to report Jack_V. In a deatmatch game where he was the host he disconnected me multiple times (probably on purpose because no pause), while playing further. In the end it appears he fully blocked my connection as he was on the verge of completely losing. My lobby name is yzoni. Thank you for keeping the multiplayer fair! @user1 2020-07-28_000.zip1 point

maybe we have to change the color of the texture of the Zapotecs. I'll try to do it myself :D1 point

About historically accurate elite units (at most), I posted a little bit about it here .I'm not a historian, so I always wonder if I miss something lol. When the Zapotec script is deciphered it will be an incredible moment, there is a lot of information waiting to be revealed.1 point

This was also an interesting thread to check out:1 point

Actually siege workshops can be an option, in terra magna mod there is the "ball court" that could be used as a barracks for advanced units. On the issue of horses I don't see such a problem: D nothing that spearmen and a special unit with hunter bonuses and good speed don't solve (without being historically wrong). I did it in my personal mod with mayas. Personally I do not see problems in civs very different from the others, I am not a competitive player. I would love to see civs with an emphasis on cavalry, economy, population, defenses or just infantry. Anyway, this just my idea.1 point

Such magesty xD Are those camels suppose to carry something on their back? I wanted to know the models are going to have armor, reins, and props ?1 point

You are right, with the volume I tried to emulate the thickness of the fur on the back of the references images I got. with just the shape it looks like an ox but the texture adds the necessary detail to distinguish. I'll try a version more flat, see if we see a difference in the game(with the top 3/4 view). Yeah, I'm up to make those nasty agressive geese and the rest. Is there a priority on the deer species? Wow 63 bones is great. I do't think I'll need that much. The idea would just be to have a blend file with meta rigs and let the animator use rigify to generated their control rig and always just export the deform bones. I've done the texturing with blender, using two texture and the stencil tool then some hours of painting. I might go for substance if it proves useful and quicker. I'm just not sure about the licence, because if I have the legal right to use the software I retain the right to do whatever I want with the result. For the UV I know that I could have used a symmetrical halved one, force of habit to make better texture and less seams. I'll try that version.1 point

New map, Magadha, is inspired by some gameplay videos I saw on Youtube. I noticed that people play 1v1 matches that tend to be on smaller maps, that kind of just spread resources out over a relatively open map with few choke points. So, this is potentially what an "India" biome map could look like in EA, minus cool stuff like mercenary camps and farmlands of course :1 point
-
Right. We could use more animals in general. Gharials for Indian maps would be nice! Could just edit the existing crocodile mesh. Maybe even use the same animations.1 point

Looks good now. As always you can nitpick forever ^^ Maybe you could fix the wooden beams behind the targets for instance they kind of overlap each other1 point

The statues could actually replace the 2 side obelisks. One statue can be Isis as shown (she was heavily worshipped in Egypt and eventually in Rome) and the other statue can be Serapis (the patron god of Ptolemaic Egypt, combining the Egyptian gods Apis and Osiris with the Greek deities Zeus, Hades, Asklepios, Dionysos, and Helios; he had powers over fertility, the sun, funerary rites, and medicine).1 point

I just fell in love with my own idea! Can we have stick-, stone- and feces-throwing baboons and macaques in-game??? Ranged Gaia animals!! That would be soooo cool, and annoying in a really funny way. They shouldn't do much damage though, but if you leave a single citizen soldier or women close to a troop of 20 monkeys, they should slowly get stoned to death...1 point
