I've just committed the building snapping feature. I'd like to here some feedback: does it behave like you expect, would you like to change something (like adding an option to enable it by default)? To use the building snapping you need to select a building, press Ctrl and move your mouse. When a preview of the new building is near to other structures it`s trying to snap to their edges (while Ctrl is pressed). Snapping (1).mp47 points

That would be great (units that can both fight and heal), but before that could be introduced, probably some additional simulation code is required to prevent druids from attacking and healing at the same time. British in an ethno-linguistic sense (Brittonic), but Scottish in a geographic sense? (The Scots came from what is now Northern Ireland in the early mediaeval times and later replaced the Picts, in “Alba”.) Having the Britons focus on ranged units, especially javelinists, and the Gauls on melee units, especially cavalry, in combination with Britons having cheaper but weaker structures (but stronger fortresses to compensate) and Gauls having structures with population bonuses would already be a starting point to further differentiate them from each other.2 points

Good to see some love for the old forgotten Iberians. Lets hope for my baking break ends soonish and do their shields. Now they only need a building retexture since some of the texture quality are pretty bad even from distance because of the resolution or the vision it was worked in that time.2 points

Hello! I was advised to report the issue in the forum, i'm trying to create an account ingame to play multiplayer, the issue is that after the registration prompt (Login Name, Password and Accepting the terms) it takes me to the login box maintaining the info registered before, but when the "Connect" box is pressed it shows the following error: "Authentication failed, incorrect password or account doesn't exist" even though it is the same input filled before. If i try to register again, a new error appears indicating that an account has been registered already with the same IP and it needs a cooldown. Thanks guys! Login: Quintus Edit: All Fixed now by the Team! Amazing.1 point

In order to distinguish Hellenistic units between the various Hellenistic factions, it's nice to include those little details that are unique to each faction. I noticed that Ptolemies used pretty unique looking, curved rectangular shields alongside the more traditional types. I first noticed them in the Palestrina Nile Mosaic from Italy, quite a while ago, but didn't know what to make of them. Now I've come across enough examples, including local Egyptian sources to feel relatively confident in my suggestion. The examples from the Palestrina Nile Mosaic, with 2 soldiers, left and centre, carrying rectangular shields with depictions of scorpions. Primary Ptolemaic Egyptian references in the form of terracotta warriors, including a cavalry man and an infantry man: Actual rectangular terracotta model shields from Ptolemaic Period Egypt: The first shield has a depiction of "Antaios, god of the Antaiopolite Nome, the Tenth Upper Egyptian Nome" The second one bears an image of Harpokrates. At a first glance, they actually look similar to the rectangular scutum of the murmillo gladiators of Imperial Rome, but the Ptolemaic examples seem to predate them. @Alexandermb, @wackyserious @Nescio, any thoughts?1 point

I've always wondered why the British long-sword champion has the same stats as the rest of the swordsman champions it would have to have less armor, for not using shield, greater damage, adding damage by crushing or bonus against cavalry horse carriages and bonus It would have to have some important bonus the car of hairs in front of the mounted cavalry (total war) shooting in motion, shooting in 360º, assuming that the melee attack and the load is a great complexity to create (In some mod I have seen that the murian champions can pass from melee to distance by a price in resources, it is not a bad idea) Finally, the spy, I would like it to work to find the last 5 or 10 of an enemy and not be looking around the map for a long time Happy New Year to all siege machines the technique of doing massive catapults and ballista is profitable, the damage and cadence I like of this version, but not to do that tactic so lightly it would be good to put damage artillery friend1 point

So what about replacing the tavern by the assembly as a start? Bolt typeface was an oversight EDIT: @Genava55 I noticed you are not in the game history.json credits files. How would you rather be credited? Just nick? Nick + Real Name? Just real name? No credits? EDIT2: Added in https://trac.wildfiregames.com/changeset/233361 point

Romans associated cats, crocodiles, and scorpions, all exotic animals not living in Italy, with exotic Egypt; see e.g. iconography on Roman coins. Praeneste (Palestrina) was already under Roman influence long before Rome made its first conquest (Veii). The Palaestrina Mosaic is magnificent, but it is a Roman mosaic depicting what some Romans imagined Egypt, an exotic place for most, would look like; it's rather similar to chinoiserie and other forms of orientalism in the Early Modern Period. The mosaic is an artistic Roman fantasy, not a reliable source from Ptolemaic Egypt. While Ptolemaic Egypt was officially conquered only in 30 BC, it was de facto a Roman vassal state since c. 200 BC, with Roman advisors and legions being sent to Egypt to defend it against Seleucid expansionism. That's true. The question is when and where curved, rectangular tower shields originated. Perhaps an occassional variant of the thureos? I'm not claiming it definitely originated by the Romans, but I'm not convinced it's Ptolemaic invention either.1 point

Dating is indeed incredibly difficult, and Roman influence tangible in the 1st century BC, but not entirely relevant. Cleopatra VII is one of the Ptolemaic heroes, which suggests that our Ptolemies go all the way up to the Roman conquest. The Palestrina mosaic with scorpions (a typical Egyptian symbol) also suggest indigenous origin. So do the depictions of Harpocrates and Antaios. Do these shields actually appear in a pre-Imperial Roman context to suggest Roman influence anyway? I honestly don't know, I personally only know them from the murmilo gladiators which post-date these pieces. Perhaps, but again, the Palestrina mosaic places them among units equipped in a typical Hellenistic fashion, not Celtic. Although I won't rule out Galatian influence, although they were specifically known for their Thyreos shields, weren't they...1 point

Generally Druids are considered practicing medical intervention. Although there are debates about the wide term and its limits. Druid could be a generic term applied to a wide range of intellectual practitioners with specialists. Or a very specific term for high-ranking member of the priest class. Anyway, I think it is safe to use the Druid terminology for the healer but if you want several kind of "priests", you can use for the healer another name known from the Celtic society: the Uatis, which is the counterpart of the Roman Vates. But in my opinion, Druid is ok currently. I agree, furthermore it gives a difference with the Britons. For me, the Gallic cavalryman is probably the most important figure of the Gallic warfare and probably the most reputed tactical unit in the view of other cultures. However, I do not want to make them overpowered with regular foot swordsmen AND cavalry swordsmen if the current gameplay favors the sword that much. Swords and longswords are a kind of topos (cliché) for the Gauls at their time and clearly from the material evidences, the sword is really an important item of the warrior class, following as well the evolution of the warfare century after century with adapting features. Without any doubt, Gauls did used chariots in battles. There are depictions, classical accounts and material evidences for these. However, the use of war chariot started to fade during the 3rd century BC and we find no material evidences and no accounts for the 2nd and 1st century BC for the Gauls. So, I would suggest to keep it for the Britons. But if you guys prefer to give it to both, no problem with that. I agree. I agree. I agree. Different temples can be done for them. I agree and I liked the prototypes made by Stan. I agree and I can suggest new helmets to differentiate them. We can even give weapons. To discuss if needed. Edit: Britons are a harder topic even for me. Lower area (only England and Wales), lower density of warfare related material evidences, fewer classical accounts, fewer interest for decades (for various reasons), very restrictive practice of publication, tendency in the past from British historians to apply blindly what have been found on the continent to Britons to fill the gap etc. However, I want to highlight that the current faction of the Britons is mixing Scottish and British Iron Age (Broch for example). Which I don't think is a problem since most of the time, the Romans weren't able to differentiate them. And it could be a good opportunity to give unique features to the Britons through inclusion of Scottish and Irish Iron Age (although complex topics).1 point

For those who're too lazy to read long forum posts: basically I agree with @Genava55 (at least on Celtic things).1 point

The important question is when those sculptures are dated. If it's closer to 300 BC, then you're on to something; if it's closer to 100 BC, then it's probably Roman influence. Furthermore, the archaeological record from Ptolemaic Egypt tends to be virtually indistinguishable from Roman Egypt, hence the term Greco-Roman Egypt (332 BC to AD 641). They appear to be naked, so maybe Celtic mercenaries?1 point

Why the bold face? But yes, I have some suggestion. Here are some of them: Give the Gauls a b/a/e infantry archer (well attested by Caesar), maybe a cavalry swordsman (Carthage can train it already), and perhaps a chariot (images of Celtic chariots have been found in Northern Italy). Britons could also use some new units (perhaps champion javelineers?), but I know very little about them, so I'll leave them to @Genava55 and others. Also, I believe Celtic unit rosters have already been discussed more than once last year. Disable the problematic kennel and make war dogs trainable at structures players would actually build, e.g. barracks, corral, house. Replace the tavern with something more meaningful. Give Britons or Gauls (or both) a new temple actor. Currently they use fundamentally the same actor, which has a design similar to barracks: (Don't delete the old actor; modders might want to use it for e.g. a non-buildable mercenary camp.) Give Britons and Gauls new wonder actors; both the Stonehenge and the Uffington White Horse are problematic. Differentiate Briton and Gaul druids (e.g. one has more health, the other more armour) Further differentiate Britons and Gauls by their civ bonuses. E.g. currently both their structures are cheaper, weaker, and provide population bonus; maybe give one civ the cheaper and weaker structures and the other the population bonus. Also, Carthage imported tin from Cornwall and the Celts invented the chainmail, didn't they? So maybe introduce some metallurgy civ bonuses or technologies? Although the intention is there, it's unclear if and when that'll happen, so don't wait for it. Discuss what you like to have added ideally; stats can be tweaked later.1 point

(... after fighting with message formatting in the forum) The answers above are personal. - The first release will be called "1". The following one "2" and so on. Implicit status are perhaps: "developed", "maintained", "orphaned". - There are gameplay changes and gameplay new elements. We could discuss more about what we mean by gameplay, about the role of modders, about the role of communauty, about SP, about MP, a too long discussion for that topic ;-) - No spoilers. There are a lot of work done and to do on the engine. - It's the name of the project. Open to questions and suggestions!1 point

- When is the aim of the release: with a beta status, finished product, or it will be some alpha? - What about the gameplay design. It's very different from 0 a.d? There's a redesign? - Engine features highlights - Fork A.D is the final name? seems nice as a project name, but not very attractive from a general public pov.1 point
