Alrighty the entire city is done. Here's Iron Wolf's Tier list, although he's not been around much lately so it's probably outdated: Tier S - Gorons, Gohma (Gohma can exploit population limit at the moment with eggs since buildings dont count towards the total) Tier A - Zora Tier B - Hylians, Gerudo, Kokiri, Ordona, Lanayru, Darknuts Tier C - Moblins (A few broken features, missing Weapon Scavenging, Invincible bug for Bokoblins, lots of micro management with Mobile Bases makes them a bit hard to play) Also keep in mind there's still a lot of gameplay elements not implemented yet like Stealth, which will be an important mechanic for the Kokiri.5 points

@Alexandermb, @Stan`, @Nescio, the topic of war elephants recently surfaced in the thread : ===[TASK]=== Animations Re-Export and Unit Meshes Fix I didn't want to muddle up the thread so I thought i'd start a more specific one. We were discussing whether the scales on the armor of Seleucid war elephants were turned upside down. I shared a page from a book on war elephants that stated that the Seleucids turned the scales on their elephant armor upside down for better protection against upward thrusts, but it didn't mention the original classical source. The same text also said that the Seleucids also switched to smaller numbers of African elephants in later years, because Indian elephants were becoming difficult to acquire. Again, the original source for this statement eludes us. But I did find something very, very interesting. It had been staring me in the face all this time, and I never noticed... The wikipedia page on the now extinct North African Elephant (Loxodonta Africana Pharaohensis) features an image of a fragmented Roman bronze statue of a war-elephant, currently in the Staatliche Antikensammlungen in Munich. It's an African war elephant with scales turned upside down! Now, I don't know if this piece is supposed to depict a Roman, Seleucid or even Ptolemaic or Carthaginian war elephant, but it does show an African elephant, probably the smaller North African type with the unique, aforementioned type of armor, so I just had to share it... Bonus: Historical reenactors using actual African forest elephants for their Punic troops. African forest elephants, though rare, aren't extinct (yet). They have the same stature as the North African Elephant. Note how "tiny" these elephants are compared to the enormous African Bush Elephant (and noticeably smaller than the Indian ones as well)... Alexander, you see your colored Phrygian helmets? Second bonus, very rare historical photographs of Africans riding African elephants (most of these also look like forest elephants): Third bonus, people riding full sized African Bush Elephants. I've always been told that this is impossible, so imagine my confusion when my sister came back from a trip in Zimbabwe, telling me she took a ride on the back of an African Bush Elephant. She did tell me they're difficult to control, and they mostly sort of go where they want to go, lol, but it is apparently possible to ride them. If you're patient enough... 4th Bonus Bush elephant choreography? Anno early 1900's? Looks like some kind of forgotten colonial project/experiment... Not sure... Not even sure where this is... 55580618_324172821782360_7280992477606051840_n.mp44 points

Well, the text that mentioned these upward facing scales talks about it as an innovation, or a development. So it's probably not how they were originally armored... I'd say, keep both textures! If you want to get fancy, perhaps add a tech for the Seleucid elephants. A special pachyderm scale armor tech, or something, that increases their health by 5% or so? By all means, I never intended to argue for the removal of the old texture. I was just merely pointing out that 1) they did indeed use upward facing scales, and 2) that the claim that they moved to the use of North African elephants in later years isn't an absurd one. @Alexandermb I was also meaning to ask if you could check the Hero Arakamani's mount in-game. He was using an Indian elephant in alpha 23 (yikes)... It should definitely be African, but it should still be bigger than the other Kushite war-elephants. Perhaps using a large bull as the King's elephant. Basically, bigger than the current North African elephants, but still a little bit smaller than the wild gaia bush -elephants. So we basically get this effect: Small, standard elephants with a single rider, and the large King's elephant with a tower. But still all African, no Indian elephants here. My second question is whether you could model a tower based on this Aksumite tower from the movie. I'm not saying this is more accurate per-se (I have no idea what a Kushite tower looked like) but Arakamni is currently standing upright in a heavy Carthaginian howdah. I'd prefer him to be sitting down in a more lightweight "African" looking howdah. Like this: It just feels more believable somehow... (the stuffed lion-head isn't necessary)3 points

rP22854 rewrote the main menu code. Mods that wnat to specify their name to be displayed in the main menu can easily do so by adding a new file instead of rewriting mainmenu.xml. @wowgetoffyourcellphone Your mainmenu.xml contained this diff to svn: and I would recommend to delete this file and put this file under pregame/ProjectInformation_DelendaEst.js: g_ProjectInformation.productDescription.caption = setStringTags(translate("Delenda Est v0.0.03"), { "font": "sans-bold-16" }) + "\n\n" + translate("Notice: This mod is under development and many features have not been added yet."); g_MainMenuItems[4].caption = translate("Atlas Scenario Editor"); g_CommunityButtons[0].tooltip = translate("Click to open https://0ad.mod.io/delenda-est in your web browser."); g_CommunityButtons[0].onPress = () => { openURL("https://0ad.mod.io/delenda-est"); }; The mods that have more weblinks or information to add, see ProjectInformation.js:3 points

Ok, one more mystery solved. You know how I was saying that some of the elephants look like the larger Bush Elephants? Well, according to this interesting National Geographic article, about the significant genetic differences between the two species of African elephants, there was some interbreeding between the species, and at least a small number of Bush elephants carry mitochondrial DNA from forest elephants... It just so happens that the elephants from Garamba, the location of the domestication centers, are considered a hybrid between forrest and bush elephants... At least according to wikipedia. If you look at the map of the geographical range of the two species across Africa, shared in previous post, you'll notice that even today, the territories of Bush Elephants and Forest elephants are right next to each other in Garamba (North East Congo/ South Sudan border region) Some other interesting quotes from the National Geographic article: Why? No elephants were killed, though the capturing of that young specimen must have been super stressful for the poor animal. You know what comes next right? Some more pictures of people riding African forests elephants! yay! I'm sorry, I've become totally fascinated by this... In recent decades Zimbabwe seems to have taken over the torch... Except they use Bush Elephants instead. People doing the impossible... Riding full grown African Bush Elephants like it ain't nothing but a thing... Not without controversy of course... And the fact that a number of handlers have actually been killed by their elephants over the years does illustrate the difficulty in handling the largest land animal on the planet: Random internet comment from a guy who said he's a mahout, said that they control Indian Elephants through pressure points in the neck, but because African elephants have much thicker and looser skin, those pressure points are hard to reach. Another possible explanation for why training African elephants is so difficult? Either way, consider the myth busted. African elephants, both types, are trainable. It's just harder.2 points

That's what we always wanted. The problem with that is that you have uneven grounds. Consider the passage between two steep mountains as a worst case. There is a 32*32 texture repeated over the radius, one can do more with it than just a blank line. The feature was introduced in D238, somewhere should be some more alternative textures. I suppose if the visualization is very small in diameter and depending on visualization it wouldnt appear that badly if its a 2d disk, but it wont allow displaying the actual aura range until adding that code as a feature (break down the texture into many smaller textures over the area, just like is done with the ring). I suppose thats not impossible to code and probably not impossible for performance either (not so many auras to be displayed I guess). (For the record, the feature is also used for attack rangeof buildings and heal range. Female inspiration aura too.)2 points

First I had an inkling that it was Congo. Then I did some digging. Now I'm pretty sure it's Congo. In 1899, King Leopold II of Belgium opened an elephant domestication center at Kira Vunga. Then operations switched to Api Elephant Domestication Center and then to Gangala-na-Bodio Elephant Domestication Center (North East Congo). At the height of the program they had as many as 80 domesticated elephants, used for maintaining roads, plowing fields and transportation. They hoped to use the elephants to haul cargo from the Congolese interior to the southern terminus for boats on the Nile at Rejaf, in the Lado Enclave in Sudan. (Yes, the Belgians also occupied a small part of South Sudan, something I've never in my life heard anything about, even though I grew up in Belgium. And people don't often mention that the Mahdists in Sudan were indeed fighting the Belgians in the South West (battle of Rejaf), in addition to the Italians and the Abyssinians in the South East and the British and Egyptians in the North, while the French were marching in from the West. Talk about being embattled...) Anyway, back to the elephants... I found more images, and even an old school video. You can clearly see that they are mostly working with the smaller type of forest elephant, as they are much easier to control, but there's a handful of bush elephants as well if I'm not mistaken. If you look at the specific geographical range of forest elephants, you'll see that the domestication centres were located within the northern confines of their range, on the edge of area's that were also populated by the larger bush elephants. The actual capturing and training of the elephants was done by Azande (Zande) people. The program remained active until as late as the 1980's, but yeah, the Cold War wasn't so cold in Africa. Congo basically collapsed during the later rule of Mobutu, and still hasn't recovered. This colonial period video from 1942 is quite spectacular if you're interested in elephant handling and live capture of wild candidates for domestication... First time I've ever seen actual footage of people handling African forest elephants. They're well trained and the degree of control they exercise over these animals is impressive, especially towards the end, when they finally move in to tie the captured young elephant to the already tame ones, you can see that they follow precise commands. Also, the sheer strength of such "small" elephants isn't to be underestimated (said to be 10 to 20 times that of oxen)... Current range of the 2 remaining species of African elephant: Some physiological differences between the species A lot more interesting images (have you ever seen an elephant used for ploughing?): Truly, one of Congo's untold histories. Documentary level interesting if you ask me... I too, have questions...2 points

For avoid the constantly doubt about swords. Hint: Implement ammo just like @Angen did, give every unit some ammo (Even meele) Give secondary attack for every unit using GetBestAttackAgainst IIRC just like he did also, Ran out of javelins? Got your sword. Ran out of Pilum? Use Your Gladius. Use ammo for spears as "durability" of the spear. Each attack consumes a charge of the spear, if spear ammo goes to 0 it "Breaks", so now the hoplite will have to rely on his faithfull kipos or xiphos. And implement some ammo refinishment aura to Blacksmith and maybe as an upgrade use something like aoe 3 fabrics. if you select this it would produce only food/wood/metal. so this building isn't just an useless Tech building. Wich also gave me an idea about libraries about their tech cost technology. This should be removed and add an aura to the building to make this building surronding buildings tech cost less, And replace storehouse techs from being global and just once, to an upgrade of the storehouse giving an aura around to nearby gathering entities, lets be honest, a soldier wouldn't carry a pickaxe, an axe, a shovel each time he goes to fight unless hes a republican legionary. The idea is to make the buildings more buildable as a city and not just as a base.2 points

Experimenting with walking and relax animations for remove the lightweight shield effect we have on the walking animations. All this with the intention of soften the walking animations and less jogging side to side. (Gifs would really help me to show my point but my internet is reeeeally slow this days). Walking: Looks similar to hoplite stance but with a more relaxed right arm and an straight shield arm for better sync with walking animation. Will replace the spearman standing too since it looks kinda stiff compared to hoplite soft stance; If ya'll agreed. In other talk: Archer attacking animation added for maurya elephant riders archers.1 point

It works for me, any mods active? Or leftover mainmenu.xml? I suppose windows? I suppose that is the outdated menu.js copy. The commits after July 27th are missing. Your only change is this: --- /tmp/menu.js_orig 2019-09-07 01:04:59.261486333 +0200 +++ /tmp/menu.js_de 2019-09-07 01:03:29.124822542 +0200 @@ -849,7 +849,9 @@ }); }; - barterButton.Buy.hidden = isSelected; + if (g_BarterSell == "coin"){ + barterButton.Buy.hidden = isSelected;} + else {barterButton.Buy.hidden = resourceCode != "coin";} barterButton.Buy.enabled = controlsPlayer(player); barterButton.Sell.hidden = false; selectionIcon.hidden = !isSelected; Perhaps to keep track of your chances, you might want to store the diffs along the mod? i.e. the above in menu.js.diff, and then when theres a new menu.js in svn, you can apply the patch again rather than applying the svn commit to your copy.1 point

Essentially like fast hoplites, yeah. I keep them as Elite Citizen Soldiers so as to not make them out class the Spartiate Hoplites, and also it makes them more of a unique "champion" to be classed that way. I wanted the Spartiates to be their one and only true champions. They also remind me of one of my favorite units from Age of Kings: the Eagle Warrior. The naming is just for the actor and template, because they take the place of a champion, but have the functions of a citizen-soldier. The Skiritai, as far as I know, weren't professional soldiers like Spartiates, but were a crack allied contingent levied by the Spartans, hence their Elite status. Better than a standard hoplite, not quite as good as a Spartiate.1 point

You mean the units should start moving before the mouseup event? The idea of the feature is that you can draw an arbitrarily shaped line and the units will spread evenly from start to finish. It means that it has to know start and end before it can do the computation.1 point

@Stan` does that mean i should remove the actual texture for historical accuracy or leave it as fancyness? Indeed, more references. I belive we have enough references to say they should go in, at least for champion spearman and leave athenian with bronze ones.1 point

The point I wished to make about swords is that there isn't much an inherent advantage to using them over spears, and the game should reflect that. I think that a marginally faster movement speed could be fair, but even that doesn't make too much practical sense. Factions should not have to be reliant on a sword unit. Altogether I like the ideas Alexandermb mentioned for ammo. In regards to which faction was barrack-less, the easier question to pose is which ones weren't. Sparta had men living in their common barracks, but for other factions it mainly was a matter of levying troops (The Romans, Athenians, etc,... all maintained this kind of military). That doesn't mean that men did not have areas where they could do martial training. Much of the gymnasium was dedicated to athletic pursuits of a very military character. I think that the primary problem is that the term barracks is used when troops were rarely quartered (Such a thing would typically imply a professional force). If we want to keep the structure, we just need to think of a more appropriate name for classification. The Seluecids and Ptolemies were one of a few factions that did maintain a semi-professional force, establishing military colonies that were maintained by the soldiers in peacetime; this probably is the closest we could come to a barracks despite a 'kleruch' typically implying an entire settlement, not a dedicated barracks. At the end of the day, the barracks is a decent abstraction of something that would otherwise require more difficult or different systems to learn in order to make the game feel more representative of the social structures of that time. Regardless of that, if there is to be a change, we should make sure to attempt to make it both simple enough for RTS purposes to justify the added historical intuitiveness.1 point

Regardless, we can very easily historically justify giving almost every civ swordsmen in some capacity, either as regular troops or as mercenaries or as champions. So it's not really a problem. If we had battalions, we could make it possible for battalions of hoplites to be able to switch between swords and spears easily, for different attack stats and uses. Maybe that kind of thing is what you want.1 point

Archer's riders animation 50% done: idle: Done Attack: Missing. Move: Done. Death: Missing. Front rider still have some concepts. For turret rider i can add a frontal attack thought it is very possible it won't reach the target due to high attack range of elephant (this should be reduced seriously). And also im thinking on delete the shield from the turret rider for avoid clipping thus this can be ignored, but i would like to have an attacking turret rider instead of an useless statue above elephant. I wish to implement another elephant meele attack. maybe an stomp yet i need a concept of how it would be and the range should be 40 frames long. In other notice, remember i've made some time ago some attacking animations for exclusive kind of assets, Some of them i consider most of them would require some adjustment while others just some small timing tweaks. For example: Legion attacking. We also have crossbowman (though is just a template name) @Stan` if han goes into EA and even if it doesn't, should i export also han crossbow animations to the core game?1 point

Weren't we close to reaching some sort of consensus that Thracian Black Cloaks make a lot more sense in the Macedonian roster than in the Athenian one? With the Thracian rhomphaia the Macedonians will be just as capable as any other civ and people might actually start playing with them. More historical accuracy and better gameplay. It's like, literally a win-win. *Not saying that Black Cloaks should be removed from the Athenians (but perhaps a slight increase in cost to reflect their distance to Thrace?)1 point

The purpose of the patch is to improve consistency in the public mod, and yeah, make classes correspond to templates. However, mods don't have to follow the same conventions, of course, you can do whatever you like.1 point

It makes perfect sense from a gameplay perspective—minimum walking distance and maximum protection—it's just not really historically accurate to farm in the middle of a city centre. A necessary evil, unfortunately. Imagine you don't pay attention during a raid, lose your units as a consequence, and are down to just a centre (I've seen it happen to AI players more than once). Now to rebuild, the centre needs at least to be able to do the following: provide sufficient population capacity for training basic units be able to train a unit that can gather resources required for basic units serve as a dropsite for resources required for basic units be able to train a unit that can gather resources required for basic structures serve as a dropsite for resources required for basic structures be able to train a unit that can build basic structures You can remove other things from the centre, e.g. arrows or metal dropsite (I actually did in my 0abc mod, but I still have to figure out how to make the AI build their forges near metal mines to save walking time). Also, units that can build and gather everything is indeed an AoE convention which could be easily dropped; there is nothing wrong with specialized units (I have fond memories of Knights and Merchants).1 point
