Map making support and conversion tool: post-Atlas
Grautvornix replied to Grautvornix's topic in Scenario Design/Map making
Post atlas is a map analyis, checking & conversion tool for 0.A.D.'s Atlas map editor. Let me present the latest version of post-atlas: Version 1.14.0 with the following changes: - [New] better file management: changes are applied to a working copy of the original map only and are only stored in the destination folder (e.g. the game's user map folder) once the conversion is completed. - [New] Completely reworked map visualization and handling in 2D and 3D, including filterinrg, highlighting and addressing issues (e.g. ability to move entitiey from outside the map onto the map, or delete them) - [New] Passability of terrain is a new evaluation of a map's potential issues as well as reachability of players - [New] Reworked setup tabs and menus to be more clear and logical (I hope) - [New] issues solved with the civ split a few years ago where hellenic civ was split into athens, sparta and macedonia, and celts were split into gauls and britons. Old maps from before this split can now be converted as well. Civs can be replaced as whole now including their assets (it still needs a bit of manual work though) I am quite grateful for the many inputs by @lilypoppy who tested and reviewed both post atlas and its companion tool mercator. I hope that map creation can be made a bit easier so that we will see more great maps for 0.A.D in the future. (please note that a new mercator release including lilypoppy's change proposals will also soon be provided via https://wildfiregames.com/forum/topic/169940-new-atlas-helper-tool-mercator) CHANGELOG.md post-atlas-1_14.0.zip README.md - Today

@Thalatta, your original message that I replied to is pretty clear. I'll quote it again: "it's painful to see that all the amazing work the devs have done is being used to cater an unrepresentative, yet habitué, group that wants a rushed game that's 3 times faster than the already competitive StarCraft II" As if the devs had nothing to do with timings and other gameplay decisions. Or perhaps those aren't "the devs" or maybe not all, or they're just "contributors". Better yet, to adapt it to your terminology, which is extremely precise: "an unrepresentative group". Yes, of course it bothers me. You have absolutely no idea who these people are. You have no idea what they discuss. And you're in no position to dictate what kind of gameplay experience the majority prefers. As for dismissing the opinions of people who leave the game, you couldn't be more wrong. But I don't think pacing (which isn't just about training times) is the decisive factor. If anything, it's player onboarding: the lack of campaigns, improvements to tutorials, improvements to the Petra Bot, friendly GUI. But basically, the single-player experience. No, I'm telling to you this. You barely arrived before you started pointing fingers.

Major update : I recreated a battalion system and worked on a campaign map. A first campaign is playable: Two layers of play. On the campaign map you develop your economy, train battalions, organize them into regiments and armies, and move them around the map. Meeting another army, or besieging a city or camp, starts a battle. Battles are fought by controlling the battalions, with controls similar to Total War. The campaign is a playable demo: you start as a single battalion of bodyguards attached to a hero, and raise a city from ruins while dealing with brigands spawning around the map. Your hero gains experience, and at each level you spend skill points on campaign or battle effects. It's technically a fork, because it introduces some engine changes, mainly the rework I've been doing on UnitMotion and Formation. For convenience, you can download a Windows installer or a Linux AppImage at https://kleos.quest/ Hope you'll test and like it!

On the usage of AI to generate 0 A.D. content
scr0llbaer replied to wowgetoffyourcellphone's topic in Official tasks
It should work when you give it the original as input (attached file)? Today's "AI" are not search engines although people misunderstand them as all-knowing oracles (and then complain about the hallucinations). Commercial AI providers of course try to accommodate for their customers and fulfill their expectations, but this prevents casual users from developing a good intuition what this tech actually is and can do. Neural-network-AI works much like the human brain, it went through training but it forgets or overlooks things which are not in immediate focus. The training data is not some internal database, the "training" just "shapes" the "neurons". It may "remember" sports results of popular matches correctly because often mentioned in many sources, but not the obscure ones, and may hallucinate them instead of realizing it just doesn't have the information, which is another problem the tech had for a long time, "AI" doesn't know what it doesn't know. This has been somewhat solved by know when they ask for external sources (web search) (even local models nowadays do web search if they feel they don't know something), but this is still not 100% reliable. Long story short, always give these things as much input as possible yourself (even if it means a lot of work that is often promised, falsely, that "AI" can "replace"). -
Yeah they are I'm just really under water with all the recent security breaches :d

Are the instructions in this thread about publishing mods still accurate? @Stan` @Itms @Atrik

The variety of weapons in this period is pretty limited. They seem to have mainly use spear, javelins and short swords.

I'm only talking about timings, what someone is first confronted with, the rest is a different matter. Really? Is that what you are going to quote as "utterly offensive"? People wanting timings 3x faster than SC2 and someone's experience? And I would have thought the mild trolling (not gigantic, though) is what bothered you. Disappointed. You can keep being dismissive of the reasons people give for leaving, threads here, opinions outside, foundational documents, variables from other games, statistics regarding their players (labelling all that "telling everyone how things should be done", no, I agree with that, you don't, just get over it), if I play the game at all (no, I got what I tell newbies from reading the non-existent manual), non-gameplay detailed posts (labelling them as "spam"), and those that apparently have "demonstrated so little" no matter how much time they actually invest (because, have you already gotten any sensible grasp of the time needed to summarise the information I have, or are you going to keep coming with laughable criteria like sign-up date?) in trying to make content more palatable for the astounding majority who doesn't give a single d*mn about competitive play. Nice mentality.

You can train her to make weird helmet shapes; sometimes these drawings are even useful for drawing. Even if they are just conceptual sketches. I'm currently recreating troops from Palmyra; I'll have to draw them, since people call this AI slope, but it's always useful for inspiration. They are precisely lacking in illustrations, and although there is documentation and even visual material, no one has dared to depict these warriors. Niederbieber is another helmet that the AI doesn't know how to replicate. -
Other strategy games not RTS.

Total war rival. -
A horse hair crested bronze Attic helmet. Chrysaor emblazoned shield (sourced from pottery). 7-foot spear with butt spike. Scale reinforced tube-and-yoke linothorax with shoulder flaps, pteruges, and Gorgon medallion centered on his chest. Greaves. Sandals. Aegean seaside background. The face is a canonical master I trained into memory I can use over and over again. The only major problem I see is the length of the butt spike at the bottom of his spear.

There is a branch for r29 r29 branch. I have cleaned up and condensed files and more in the recent updates, both for 28 and 29. I would be glad to have your feedback

You guys actually got the zip to unzip? When I tried to, I got an error, and it didn't unzip

I took a look some time ago at the changes. They contain mostly single player optimizations. And beside some useful changes there are visual degradations. Our repo contains a PR with more appropriate LLM changes here: https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad/pulls/9257, but the generated code isn't in production ready state.

Maybe you just don't understand the optimization, bro. /s
