Addition of Han Chinese to 0AD
Carltonus replied to Yekaterina's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
To be honest, the Old Chinese romanization should be the one put in the specific name parameter of the xmls, and pinyin (or other romanization) mixed with English/transifex in generic. -
We have not seen any news yet from the original modeller of the palace. The feature freeze is in a few weeks, just to let the both of you know. Anybody else who is willing to finish the palace just in time for the above?
-
Are the drawings of the red sun and the soldiers moving from side to side like the other 0 A.D. backgrounds? Those would be much appreciated. A scenery of ancient Wa can be part of the middleground to complete it.
-
In the long-run, of course! To summarize: Cassivellaunus would be the same class as Boudicca, on chariots; same goes for Mandubracius and who is going to be the third one, both that may be swordsmen on foot and horse, respectively. All that with little to no change in gameplay or statistics, if that is what you mean...
-
If I can recall, isn't the cape model unified for all factions? Still rooting for an unarmored Boudicca. Historical attire, gear, and temple structure aside, the next issue that may have to be taken seriously is the Brythonic heroes being out of the current 0 A.D. timeframe. Sure, the current three can be put as Atlas-only units or preparation for the so-called "Part 2/Empires Beseiged". Those (at least) three during Caesar's invasions, anybody?

===[TASK]=== Crowd Sourced - Judeans (Hasmonean) [Faction]
Carltonus replied to wackyserious's topic in Game Modification
The Judean fortress is currently a re-texture of the Persian (Achaemenid) counterpart... so Kathy had not done any major changes to the texture files. "And the swine... you shall not eat", yes, the template file for the Judean corral obviously has not been modified yet. What permissible animal can be a substitute for the pig, or just remove it from the template altogether. In short, the faction still has placeholders until balance of (game) mechanics and history/culture are in harmony. -
Just the messenger here, nothing else. The only feature I have contributed currently is the proposed specific name for the building. Thanks for the offer, if only I had another computer with the space for such creative tools... expecting one sooner or later!

Don't think this will be implemented in the next alpha, since @Stan` is busy with more finishing work. It's been "a couple of months" since they posted the above. Time to concede with my first sentence above? Anyways, my impression on the current state of the palace model is... nearly done.

Question about A25
Carltonus replied to PyrrhicVictoryGuy's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
Ongoing discussion regarding the Tarantine cavalry: In short: the Ptolemaic mercenary cavalry javelineer could be corrected in the next alpha, most unlikely 25. -
===[TASK]=== Ptolemaic Tarantine Cavalry (Mercenary Tarantine Settler)
Carltonus replied to Hidan's topic in Official tasks
No response yet, think it would be too late already. The Ptolemaic mercenary horse skirmishers will still be Thracian for the next alpha. @wowgetoffyourcellphone, do you have samples of your take on the Tarantines in your mod? -
Unfortunately, its Old Chinese trascription would be something close to "qrum lang", or in the IPA, /*q(r)um laŋ/. Either "Yavana" or "Yona" is the best you can get close to given the features we already have.

===[TASK]=== Greek Unit Texture (General Thread)
Carltonus replied to wackyserious's topic in Official tasks
Great that the Macedonian and Ptolemaic archers have been remade. The Syrian archers still need their helmet and scale armor revamped. The Thessalian and Odrysian placeholders for the Seleucid hetairoi and Tarantine cavalry may need to be taken into account before the new alpha is out. -
===[TASK]=== Greek Unit Texture (General Thread)
Carltonus replied to wackyserious's topic in Official tasks
For now, @wowgetoffyourcellphone's basic rank Ptolemaic and Seleucid mercenary cavalry spearmen in Delenda Est should be a viable placeholder instead of the basic rank Thessalian spearman actor. Has anyone made the changes? -
While waiting for a willing modeler in order to finish the veranda (is it necessary?), let us pick the specific name for the new wonder. Am thinking of "Basíleion tôn Aigôn". Are the cases used correct?

Look of the athenian champions
Carltonus replied to Silier's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
That means Agis III should be replaced as well, as he lived after the Peloponnesian War. In that case, this would affect the Athenian marines as well, they require the Iphicratean reforms tech alongside the Cretan archers. Any thoughts? Back to the topic of the champion hoplite, "City Guard" is not a good translation. "Picked Hoplite" is a better one. Make him put on a full panoply with the bronze cuirass. The forking and/or sub-faction suggestion can be left as a modification idea. -

Carltonus replied to Silier's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
Has anyone been doing kitbashing to create hoplites of differing eras? This could be helpful in making some more special units while the 3D artists are away. If forking phases by era is possible, the faction could have at least three kinds of champion hoplites. Like this: Traditional Classical → armored Peloponnesian War → armored Reformed Iphicratean → the present epilektos (light and fast) Hellenistic → logades (armored hoplite in Macedonian fashion) The citizen elite hoplite will then be wearing decorated linothorax, or 10% chance of cuirass. -

Carltonus replied to Silier's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
The left is an elite Perioikos hoplite. As I and @Ultimate Aurelian have said, one-greaved men are a Latin thing. @Angen, what is exactly the matter with the epilektoi? They're supposed to be the more-athletic kind, hence the lighter armor than the usual hoplite. What about the logades? -
Addition of Han Chinese to 0AD
Carltonus replied to Yekaterina's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
It looks like some of the icons on the structure tree needs updating, more specifically the cavalry. The champion and citizen swordsman/archer icons are swapped and/or in the wrong class colors. Don't recall a female as an icon of a male hero as well. Have all the anachronisms (like the Qing flags and banners) been fixed? -
This fixes the rally point flag problem as expected. Relieved, don't have to post a video of the error. Also, some remnants from Delenda Est can still be seen, such as the specific name of the battering ram is in English instead of the expected "Krīós". The name of the Sacred Band can just be called "Hieròs Lókhos" as there are no other Grecian sacred bands as far I as I know. Looking at the main game, the Athenian battering ram still uses the Spartan actor (i.e. using the Lacedemonian aspides) since game-wide rams were implemented. This was corrected in DE.

Played with the mod, and when I place the rally point after selecting the barracks, there is at a random time an error regarding the Han Chinese flag. I will see if I can reproduce this in the next few days.
-
Captured horse's mane issue: Horse mane bug.mp4 The Scythian training ground cannot garrison archers, therefore no experience trickle. Archery ranges and stables for other factions do not produce experience as well, is this intentional and will be removed from the barracks?

Tested the latest, it’s a bit laggy even with low graphic settings. Cursor freezes for a few moments every few seconds.
