  1. Partially because Saturday is a popular day to go out. For myself as the organizer i am more confident i will be home Sunday 8pm CEST compared to Saturday to take care of things.

  2. Sure, but one of the insights from @real_tabasco_sauce is that this isn't necessarily "bad" behavior and the "problem" we are trying to solve doesn't really exist. I agree with him on both points. I'm just pointing out that there is potentially a better solution out there.

  3. Agree--it hasn't been for a couple of years now. Agree. This would only take away control from the player. At best, it runs the risk of automating the game. Seems like the better solution is to revisit an "attack area" feature that would provide all the same, and more, benefits to the player without automating the game.

  6. Since the devs are busy with alpha 27, I thought I'd start work on alpha 28. Non exhaustive feature list, but feel free to suggest more, I will consider your opinions (no promises) 1. Name: Alpha 28 will start with B because a26 starts with 'z' and a27 with 'a' (loops back). The name that I have currently chosen is Brian Cohen (of Nazareth), who was a famous historical figure. 2. B for buff, so every feature will involve a buff in some way. 3. Slinger buff: Everyone has spears, swords and arrow, while slingers are literally throwing pieces of stone they found on the ground. No one will take them seriously. So now, they will have automatic rifles. 4. WFG Bot buff: He only has one line. He desperately needs some more. This update will introduce 100 dialogues for him. 5. Facts buff: facts need a buff. He is too underpowered, and everything around him is getting very overwhelming. 6. Shia LaBeouf: This will be a new unique unit. Whenever you are unsure, you can ask Shia and if he says, "Just do it!", you can go ahead without any worries. If you are unsure about my skills as a game developer. I can assure you that I am amongst the very best. I have won every game jam where I participated. Here is proof of my latest gamejam. This post is small since I've been busy. cheers, facts

  7. It sounds like those realistic ideas introduced at A24. You know who was making those gameplay decisions in those days.

  8. Why not Saturday? It's the day when people are the most flexible and allowed to sleep late

  18. These video platforms encourage a lot of human stupidity, look how TikTok is in China (supposedly). ------ The only thing YT knows how to recommend to me are gardening and AoE videos.

  19. @Yekaterina we should not call them idiots when it comes to choice of games or Operating Systems, If a lot of people find value in one OS or games, I believe that inherently it has some value, For example most software companies will only trust Linux more than windows in their servers because Linux is superior to windows when it comes to managing servers. Big tech companies are investing in Linux and they are kind of premium members of Linux foundation and linux is getting big money due to this companies. but desktop linux is divided into different distros and each distro is nothing more than a glorified repo to host OS and application and one different way to install linux. I felt like the leading Desktop Environment like gnome is kind of a copy cat of MacOS. also for general users using even a windows machine is hard I believe a lot of people use windows because the people sell them their machine don't know much about Linux. When I bought a laptop from a local shop they know how to install windows inside but when I asked them to do a dual boot and install linux in it. they kind of talked like superstitious people and said that is impossible to dual boot that laptop so I came home and installed fedora myself but I had to get help from online resources on how to do it and in the process I was able to learn some thing about the machine I am using. what I am asking is what choice does a non technical person have if the sellers won't support linux. It's plain simple like Linus torvalds said they have to do it themselves. most people are interested in using this sophisticated machine to do daily tasks and don't want to get in trouble by tweaking it or changing it because if they do something wrong all that the machine is going to show is a black screen. but I won't call them idiots just because they cannot change OS in their system. I own a motorcycle I don't change oil in it or change ABS liquid or try to tweak then engine. I take it to the mechanic and I will never try to do that myself because it's a life and death problem and I am not a mechanic Even if I can learn it I don't want to because I am not interested in it, I just want to ride my motorcycle from point A to point B. without marketing people won't learn about product I think we have to face the reality that not all people are technical. and technical knowledge varies from person to person not every 0AD player is a doing development of 0AD only a few people developing the game and I think they don't get much time to play the game at all. I also want to talk about AOE and 0AD comparison but I am ending this post because It seems like I wrote too much in one post may be readers will loose interest if I put everything in one post. I will continue If you want to hear about it and if you agree what I write makes some sense.

  20. Propaganda says that Linux is hard to use. Actually many distros are more straightforward than windows

  21. YouTube is the fastest way to popularise 0ad, because even though it is far from ideal, a huge proportion of population in the world still use it. Hence we can expose 0ad videos to publicity quickly by putting your excellent commentary videos next to Mr.Beast's stupidity demonstrations with 10M views. To show you the average quality of YouTube videos, I used a freshly installed browser with no history to open YouTube, and this is the home page. If I search 0ad: It only returns the most prominent YouTube channels instead of actually relevant content. You can't see a single non-cosmic player here; no Vali, no leopard, no Jim, no Zxphxr. When I scroll down the page all I see is some popular RTS YouTuber trying the game for once; there no good TG commentary videos. Even if I specifically search for pro games, I get Terminator and Resonator again and no actual good TG videos. Older videos are completely buried. YouTube's nub search AI prevents the best advertisements of the game from being discovered so we have few players even though the game has existed for more than a decade.

  22. 1* you don't need to be in passive mode to lure ennemy units 2* luring always been a tactic deployed by smart strategists on battlefields (napoleon and gengis khan) .. opposite to tactical cosmic that sends all and cross fingers 3* nobody can come with a clear line between "dance" , "micro" and moving units .. if your hero lost him self on the front lines , would you sacrifice it ? What's dance , moving the same unit 2 times per second ? Seems that moving back all the front melee is already too much dance for you 4* "dance" has been removed already some versions ago .. the 'dance' will get some damage no matter what whilst it was possible to have any unit moonwalking taking 0 damages 5* micro units is the answer that address the problem of short distance units bumping in each other. Slingers are still superior to skirmishers if the terrain is not total clear. 6* anti-"dancers" are those who are generally angry to see their op ranged units losing a battle ... " meeh, let me auto-spam units from 20 cheap wood barracks" 7* yes, "dance" is more clicks .. you can still play simcity if you think that 0ad should be nothing else that ecobotting the fastest, send all and win on auto-pilot bad idea for 2 reasons : - you may want the AI to compute at each frame - instead of each command - the closest enemy unit and this for each unit .. - you really want the AI to cancel each of your command so that your units will run after the enemy hero dancing behind your lines ?

  23. If you want to alleviate "turtleing", which does exist and can be a little annoying although not hugely problematic, directly address the problem: slightly increase ram hack armor. change building arrows behavior and/or damage. just addressing the symptoms as you have suggested would result in inconsistencies and further problems.
