  1. If you put archers on walls i believe they get additional protection from it. Agree vision obstruction from walls would be nice, but it needs really good code design because walls can be build and destroyed and vision is calculated from every player owned entity so might hurt performance a lot. Also currently there is issue with ai seeing everything by design and there is also unitai code depending on vision of units. To the original topic, with current rate of fire of units in game, checking collision for each arrow is performance nightmare

  2. Hello everyone, I recently had a few conversations with players on the lobby about "how to improve". When I am being asked, I usually reply with: 1. watch replays 2. watch ValihrAnt videos 3. read this file. This file is what I am presenting in this thread: it's a collection of tips & tricks I initially shared with my friends and then made it public on my GitLab page. It might be incomplete, it might be wrong in some of its parts, it might give importance to aspects that are not or viceversa, etc... I am not in the position of claiming this is a manual to become a good player. However, it might be useful to somebody and I'm happy to share if it helps. The file is divided into three sections: 1. Interface, 2. Logistics, 3. Fighting. Each section contains a list of tips & tricks in sparse order; each tip comes with an extra tip. Cheers Source: https://gitlab.com/mentula0ad/0ad-tips-and-tricks

  3. I am making a list of simple community mod shortcomings that would need to be addressed if/when it is implemented in a27. Roman Civilization Overview (perhaps specific technologies) should mention ability of rank 3 melee infantry to become centurions, should also be listed on Spearmen and Swordsmen tooltip for romans. Carthage team bonus should say "infantry mercenaries..." instead of "Mercenaries -50% train time" if you have anything else to add, mention it.

  4. Hey Guys, I finally have the motivation to write here and I feel very happy to mention it and if in case it gets implemented in the game. I was going through the tutorial of the game and watching other people play and I came across the Heroes of every other civilization, they all have Different kinds of buffs which is very fair, but it gave me an idea, Those heroes that have an aura around to motivate the units or regenerate the health of soldiers (eg Chanakya from Mauryan Empire) So If there's a Hero that can acquire the ownership of the buildings given that the Enemy Structures are exposed to the aura of the New Hero, just like Buddha convinced others to join him. In this case the player team can acquire the ownership of the enemy structures just like when a raid happens and it degrades over time(if no unit is garrisoned). Now it may sound not So Fair but the civic centres will not be affected as well as the enemy's organic units. I guess the game needs such kind of hero Please let me know what you guys think also let me know if it needs to be elaborated more.

  5. I don’t know the answer, but something like centurions will amplify any underlying imbalances. As a way forward, we shouldn’t carve those imbalances out. Instead we should just fix whatever issues exist underneath. Otherwise, it gets really complicated and logically inconsistent. With that said, I welcome changes to champ Roman cav, which, in my opinion, is the best unit in the game

  7. Good morning or afternoon; -The lusitanians are Indo-european Pre-celtic ( like the Vetonians ) and mixted them with the locals peoples and created the "Cultura Castreña" . The iberians was docen of tribes native of the east of the Iberian Peninsula ( not indo-european). Sorry for the inconveniences*

  8. Your reply is the closest I've seen to an explanation of how the rating system works at all. Thanks for your corrections. I wonder if a problem with the rating system is that it is difficult to find a clear explanation about how it works and so some of us build on misconceptions.

  9. @vladislavbelov Hi, I was recently talking with @Norse_Harold and was talking about support for large and very large widescreens with high resolutions and was pointed to make the suggestion on this forum. The reason being in such situations low quality textures and/or models can have very little detail and likely don't give much immersion. So were wondering whether support for these higher quality textures could be developed and included to allow for coping with such situations. The way to aid with this and maintain the high FPS is by utilising something like AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution and Vulkan API as it is what the technology supports. Vulkan API is cross platform supported on a wide variety of devices and hardware. Though doesn't work on NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards earlier than the 10 Series, however does begin support earlier on AMD Radeon cards in this case RX 460, 470 or 480 at minimum. The Vulkan API will work with a large wide variety of hardware as long as the following is met:- The Hardware is compatible The drivers are compatible The operating system is compatible There will be a large benefit to implementing this feature technology as it can maintain or increase FPS with high (or even very high) quality if it is implemented correctly. AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution | AMD AMD FidelityFX - Super Resolution 1.0 - GPUOpen AMD FidelityFX - Super Resolution 2 - GPUOpen (Recommended as it is for version 2.1 of AMD FSR - higher quality and speed) Is it possible at a later date to include support for this technology in the title possibly as a separate executable compiled or a settings option (based on compatibility probe) for supported systems? Thank you for your time and attention in this matter.

  11. What's the point of building walls if they don't protect? Maybe it should be done so that it is impossible to shoot at units behind the wall?

  13. I have a question, was it intentional that melee cavalry get buffed by centurions? Cause that does juice Consular up even more lol

  14. Do we have any place to actually discuss whether the items from the community mod should be implemented into a27? I think everything should get in. I would be in favor of slight tweaks to the CC radius expansion to make it smaller and making centurions more available somehow (still haven't seen one used).

  15. Yeah! I think the Iberians needed a related faction to balance out the gauls and britons. I've been trying to understand the differences between the iberians and Lusitanians; I believe the Lusitanians are pre Indo-European, whilst the Iberians are Proto Indo-European?

  16. Hi! Yes, I'm working on Vulkan support (#6636) and I plan to add upscale (nearest, bilinear and FSR) support in the future (A27 or A28).

  18. Walls don't obstruct vision either. Also trees, mountains, structures et al don't inhibit ranged attacks either, so why should walls?

  19. I don't think 10 wins will bring him many points or at least not significant. With every new win he will get less points. So for example if he is 1400 and opponent 1000, he will get 1,8 points. So he need to win ~50 games to get to 1500 rating. In case of 1500 vs 900, he gets 0.6. I guess this calculator is same as 0AD's ? https://www.omnicalculator.com/sports/elo ELO is fair rating system, 0AD should keep it. I'd only think about some slow decay so it's more realistic, so that it reflect fact that when players don't play they become a bit rusty. Tennis (ATP) has something like that. You need to defend your points on next year tournament, otherwise you lose that points.

  20. I think both "exploits" are fine. Building a CC in enemy territory comes with risks, costs and missed opportunities. Building an CC takes time that could be spent for other purposes. Building wooden towers and upgrading them isnt problematic either IMHO.
