  3. That's correct. Luckily for you, we already did this for a few maps, because of the iberian walls. The lines you are interested in are 75-79 of the following file https://trac.wildfiregames.com/browser/ps/trunk/binaries/data/mods/public/simulation/data/civs/iber.json#L76 That is incorrect. You just need to edit the civ.json file.

  4. Putting some measure to limit the number of Spartans is a great idea because the main problem of Sparta was that the number of the Spartiates declined over time due to losses and debt. Their numbers could not be restored due to the rigid social structure.

  5. There are a couple obstacles to that from a historical perspective. First, kings had little authority outside of military matters. Of course they did sit in the Gerousia, but Ephors were much more influential. The second problem relates to the heroes used. Brasidas is not a king. The simplest option would be to introduce two kinds of heroes: Eurypontid and Agaiad, and have two or three of each. The player could train one as the primary dynasty, and the second one could be unlocked via technology. The Spartans did besiege cities, but this was usually done by building siege walls (Take the siege of Plataea). The ram is an adequate way of represent their less than creative means of taking cities. I appreciate your advocating for Spartans being available at phase 1. I would, however, encourage two suggestions that I have made in a previous thread: make them free albeit with a long training time, costing 2 population, and limiting the number of Syssita to 1 +1 per next phase. This would encourage Spartan production yet make it extremely difficult to mass.

  7. Another proposal: Helots lose the ability to advance rank with experience, and Introduce a technology pair: 1) Krypteia: Helots have (slightly) increased gather rates Or 2) Neodamodeis: Helots gain the ability to advance rank with experience The idea is to give the choice of either having better economy to support the production of the best infantry in the game or to have more variety in the military

  8. I can whip up an "Administrative King" actor very quickly.

  9. It would be really fun for every hero to recruit their administrative king. Administrative kings would have economy aura while combat kings would have combat aura. For this though we need some additional modelds. Maybe in the short time the idea of being able to train two heroes at the same time is more interesting.

  10. it shouldn't be hard. i remember @edoput and friends (ping @Mentula) tried that already maybe a year ago, I could definitely edit the ranking algorithm to include team games (multiplayer is not the correct word btw). we have mainly two problems: - this could multiply the cases of ranking offence claims - everytime a change to the ranking system is discussed, it never gets out the bog of discussions. I'm not sure how or if the lobby code is maintained.

  11. No worries, is there any change you could upload the walls/gate/towers that you see in this picture? Everything about this castle is perfect for that I want to make.

  12. Only one king is allowed to lead the army in battle since shortly before the Persian Wars. We do not hear much about the co-kings of famous Spartan kings, probably they are overshadowed by their more famous counterparts. Maybe there can be a unique technology called Second King with unique bonuses for the hero trained?

  13. Hi guys, I found the Kite Shields. My Knights are looking awesome. I just found the thread on BigTigers mod as well, his starting castles looked awesome! Surely the mod can be made publically available.

  14. The Atlas grid lines are showing tiles. The emphasised lines show 16x16 patch borders. Its an engine constant, https://github.com/0ad/0ad/blob/6f02aadf5b3ae6996a3fbf6a10a18ec22a406ad9/source/graphics/Terrain.h#L40 There is a scale discrepancy so not sure if calling them meters is actually accurate. But they are called meters which should be read as Pyrogenesis units.

  16. @wraitii I see that there are many python files to help in the development of the mod, but I don't know how to take advantage of them in automation, where can I find out what each one does? I plan to make new campaign maps in the future.

  17. My idea of an announce mailing list is for it to be read-only except for wfg addresses. Traffic should be very low, announcing releases certainly qualifies. People subscribe to the list if they are interested instead of you directly reaching out. Target are primarily direct or indirect contributors, but anyone interested is free to subscribe. This would obviously replace you actively reaching out to distributions via mail.

  18. The other solution is that training Leonidas bring immediately another king (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leotychidas_II), the same with Agis III (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleomenes_II). While Brasidas (not being a king but a general) wouldn't bring a new one. The other king could have a generic model. Or, the two kings system could be simply a bonus if the hero dies the player got a large discount for the next one.

  19. I was thinking this could be a feature for the Ptolemies. Choose either the Temple of Edfu or the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

  21. Thoughts on a 10% range buff for units garrisoned in walls?

  22. I have been thinking exactly about this and I have a lot of ideas. If your concern is that spartan champions may be too strong in p1, but relatively weak in p3, we could just have a series of technologies for pumping them trough the ages. Greek historians give us a lot of clues for interesting technology names. About the next ideas I'm going to share: many require coding, but I'm just brainstorming ideas, consider them as such. Helots Spartan women are costlier than other women (they are decent fighters) and maybe limited in number (if spartiates are also), but you can trade male helot workers, they can't defend, and are limited in a number that depends on spartiates. For instance, every new spartiate could raise the max number of helots by 2. Spartiates would be important for economy as well as for war, forcing them to be more than meatshield strategically. It would be even more fun if helots rebelled everytime the max number of them would go under the current number allowed by spartiates. Bonuses Civ bonus - Two kings: Spartan can have two heroes at the same time Spartan enduring system of law established the coexistence of two kings at any time. Team bonus - Leaders in war: all spartan heroes have effect on allies too Spartans were regarded as war specialists in Greece and all over the world. When called to fight by allies, they were given the command. Leonidas rework Spearmen hero 300 Spartans: all allied melee infantry gets +20% speed, 2 pierce resistance, +2 hack resistance, +20% damage. 30m radius. This ability only works when Leonidas is engaging an enemy. Last stand: when Leonidas is engaging an enemy, he cannot be ordered to disengage.

  23. I think that for act of differentiating factions, Sparta has the art disadvantage. Sparta has the least amount of different units neither does it have many special buildings. While I think we should make the most of the art currently available to us, we need to accept more art is particularly useful for making Sparta feel more unique.

  24. yes I think staying on the middle ground is good: the basic CS units are very similar, but civs have additional unique buildings, units, upgrades, and bonuses. Hopefully, we can do this for a couple more civs later as well.

  25. Additionally it would be nice to have more coherent borders for territories. This is purely arbitrary preference, but I would find a map done in the style of Ptolemy's description of the world to be a fun idea. This is obviously not the original, but it would be a fun representation.

  27. I like your mod...love the music too... ...I have been playing like for 5 months now, and decide to make a scenario too.. At first, It was design for 8 players, but issues with the population, and the game freezing, forced me to make it for 5 players instead, with the other factions becoming buffer states...As you, I am also working on a scenario base on the map of Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. I have named O AD Empires at War... Hopefully it will be published soon.. here is how is looking so far.

  28. I think the topic: https://wildfiregames.com/forum/topic/82176-differentiating-civilizations-persian/ was a success so i will continue to sparta civilization. Well I'd like to start with a few small ideas. It seems to me that the Sparta civilization should be focused on its infantry and especially on its champions, which are rarely used. - Sissitia moved to phase 1; - Sissitia range aura of gathering rate on farms for citizens infantry skimishers near. Gathers like a woman, but her attack is reduced a little. - Champions spearman can be trained on phase 1; - Champion spearman can up to rank 2 (olympic champion). Current hoplite tradition also affects champions. - New movement speed technology for champion infantry; Well this is one of the ideas that i have at the moment, i will research more about sparta culture. I would like to hear everyone's ideas and opinion.
