1. I haven't yet to check the related code entirely, so my opinion here is based solely on my incomplete code checking, observation on in-game behavior, and also my brief experience joining marching competition as high school boyscout. @wraitii and @Freagarach please correct me if I'm wrong. Formation as currently in 0 A.D. use FormationController to direct the formation. The controller seems to be placed in the center, so when the formation rotated, the units in the center stay put while others move to accommodate this. Also when some of the units are leaving the formation, the entire formation would be rearranged from scratch. However, it is a bit different in reality. Usually the equivalent of FormationController would be the commander, which is placed not in the center of the formation, but usually on front left. Each formation member on the front row would try to follow the one directly in his left, while others would follow the one directly in front of each. When the formation is rotating, every member would not rotate unless the guy in front of him is turning. If you want to check how this behavior look in-game, say you have 10 soldiers. Set Soldier 1 to Guard Soldier 2, Soldier 2 to Guard Soldier 3, and so forth until Soldier 9 is set to Guard Soldier 10. Then move Soldier 10 anywhere, and see how the other units behaved. This is how a column formation is supposed to be moving in real life, only they stand closer of course. My suggestion is that we keep the current Formation.js behavior on the front row, while the second and so on rows using this 'guarding' method to follow the first row units. When some members are leaving the formation, each member that left would first check the front and move forward if his front is empty, and otherwise check the left and move if empty, otherwise stay put. So there would not be too much shifting because the formation is adapted to existing formation members and their positions, not recreated from scratch. MoveMembersIntoFormation function in Formation.js might need to be revised like this. Hopefully I have time in the weekend to check on this further.

 2. I found this so useful and therefore quote it here. Maybe it can be pinned, so also new users, who would like to help, can see it immediately?

 3. Hey guys I'm wondering if anyone is up for a $50 0 A.D. 1v1 Cashcup. the game would be 32 players, starting in Groups of 4, only 3 ppl from each group would enter the final stages, (8 groups) starting - 8 players would be eliminated. Games will only be allowed by players with similar timezones and a maximum of a 6 hr difference between players, exceptions can be made if the player is okay, if the player come 15 minutes late to the agreed time then it is forfeited (NO EXEMPTIONS) will be round robin for group stage

 5. They are both Greek One is a spear civ one is a pike civ. Seleucids boom faster than Macedon but Macedon can use its spear cav for more efficient hunting and harassment.

 7. @DerekO I don't think your challenge board will work. Player of 0AD (aka weirdJokes) will smash PyrricVictoryGuy instantly... we don't stand a chance against him! You probably would want players of the same level competing in the same rounds I am 1400 Pyrric is 1300-1400 weirdJokes is rated 1700 but actually 1800+

 8. Sorry, the image itself needs to be square (i.e. have equal height and width), but it can have transparency so can look like whatever you want it to. I'm sure it's possible to create a new theme that does that, but it would be a lot of work, and be something that potentially needs to be updated each time the forum software is upgraded.

 9. We could take the civ icons, because they look nice. Problem is that would maybe imply some kind of rating of the civs. But we could also use other technology or building icons. I made some based on your suggestions and what was available: forum_ranks.zip

 12. svn updates on the instant a patch is approved, so you can get the absolute latest and greatest. git waits for 1 day and updates every midnight. That means git is slightly more stable than svn because the devs have a few extra hours to correct any mistakes. But, you are a few hours behind svn people. both are fine for submitting diff

 13. A trail of breadcrumbs would be nice, but, as said, is a rework of the system. @alre You can remove "<!--" and "-->" from template_formation.xml to visualise the formation controller in the game.

 14. Well, it needs more refactoring and generalisation in the Production Queue code. I tested it a bit some time ago, but there is still too much hardcoding. So for now: not possible.

 15. I was mostly joking, but thanks for the answers anyway. Aside from my computer at home, literally every other computer I interact with runs Linux. Ironically, my work machine runs Linux too despite my own machine not running it which is usually the opposite problem to have. Then there are the servers.

 17. Ooh, Music stuff. Here, some Australian style stuff. Warning: Rude words here. (From the country down south where we have discovered how to say "Go @#$% yourself" when we actually mean "I love you".) If you like any of it, please visit the bandcamp sites and buy something. Covid hit us harder than most developed Countries and our music scene is collapsing because of our incompetent GOVT. Every donation helps! Bread and Circuses, right? Music being circus. Let's start with some of the classics, Frenzal Rhomb, the One band which has been holding up the Australian Punk rock scene on it's (Camel-like) shoulders by itself from 1992. And they only have 1/1:30 songs too. And darn did they do a great job. ^One of their better songs. If you want to listen to all the music or even buy some, go here: https://frenzalrhomb.bandcamp.com/music Next: The Up-and-coming big guys from Tasmania (the little island south of Sydney in NSW AUS) Luca Brasi, if anyone's watched godfather i bet you know where they found that name. https://lucabrasipunkrock.bandcamp.com/music Next: The Bennies, A Ska Band from Melbourne. They Really love Drugs, Specifically Cannabis. Trust me, I've seen them do a lot of it with my own eyes (my family are friends with most of the bands here, so.... rigged advertisement? :D) They're like Frenzal Rhomb in that they do short-fast songs but they have lots of them, so it makes up for it. And having a joint between each song... You can imagine how high they get lol. https://thebennies.bandcamp.com/music Next: One of my personal Favorites, Amends. They are an Up-and-Coming band from Western Sydney (Blues). They also have a new album they released last month, which is very good too. They're a very light-core Punkrock band and this is their outgoing song from the album So far from Home. Also my favorite. There's also "Hells Bells" which is very unique and creative. Got a beat to it. You can find their stuff at https://amendsmusic.bandcamp.com/music Next, Corpus, 2 Brothers who have a mental disease, Clinical Depression i think? So they took up music and went Crazy with it to keep their mental problems down. darn they are intense live. https://corpuscorpuscorpus.bandcamp.com/music
