  1. my plan is to add a couple of propos as a kind of mini plaza. The back requires a couple of things because there is literally nothing.

  2. Windows doesn't save you from terminals, it just gives you a stupid terminal that is almost unusable. If you don't like terminals, check out Deepin OS (if you don't hate China), Manjaro (for nubs and gamers), Linux Mint (I think Letswaveabook is using this), Ubuntu (a lot of 0AD players are on this) Using Linux does not necessarily mean you have to use terminals; Linux gives you an option to use terminals which makes a lot of things very simple and efficient. There is always a long-winded graphical way of doing things but most users would rather type in 1 line of command and hit enter instead. The habits of these people give you the wrong impression that anything other than Windows is CLI heavy but in fact they just give you an efficient alternative that you will eventually fall in love with. The same applies for BSD. But Lion I would recommend you to stay away from Arch because that stuff is actually command heavy and you need to install it by command yourself.

  3. So lions now won't ever stop tracking/following a unit if they ever saw it from afar, while eles will stop in their track even if the unit that attacked them is still in sight? Seems like the worst of both worlds to me (to make the game more micro intensive).

  4. I don't think so. In windows land, things are not that modular. Maybe it's time to ditch windows. Yekaterina, what OS do you recommend?

  5. If you make mods then that will not affect the basic functionality of the game and therefore you will not get OOS errors as soon as you disable your mod. The files in your mod folder should have an identical hierachy to the public mod, and the game will prioritise reading from your mod folder instead of public mod. The game only searches for the necessary files in public if it can't find the correct files in your mod folder.

  6. that works. Extract it and delete the original. You might need to restart the game a few times but when it runs stabily that is when you can start making changes. I recommend just tweaking the damage values slightly in the template xml files to begin with, so that you don't break something and confuse yourself. That was how I started. Note that once you tweak your xml files you can't play in the lobby anymore; you will always get an OOS error because the templates between you and your opponent are different. Therefore I recommend preparing to reinstall the game before starting this.

  7. As you can see here https://code.wildfiregames.com/D3891 some work has already been done towards fixing it. It's usually better to work on SVN for such matters, because the file might have changed between the release and the moment you are changing it. You can also make your own mod https://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/Modding_Guide

  8. @Grapjas Thanks for the neat hint to enter 'cmd' into the Windows file explorer's address bar, which was new to me until today :-) @Stan` Maybe this could also be linked & pinned over there? https://wildfiregames.com/forum/forum/312-game-development-amp-technical-discussion/

  9. I would put it in Off-topic because it is not really related to 0AD You can also put it in help, because you need help with understanding and explaining why the forum has changed. I believe Invision Community is resposible. Let's check other forums powered by invision community and see if similar changes have occured?

  11. yes definitively, as long as you only want to change javascript / strings / unit stats ect. In these cases you can make patches based on the svn autobuild and there is no need to build yourself. When you want to change c++ code or anything that is related to how the engine works, then you probably want to rebuild, to actually test what you are doing.

  13. Wow, a jump from 20GB to 64GB (number sourced from Microsoft's website). What on earth is even in there. The aesthetics are just weird now. File explorer is somehow even more lacking, still no tabs ftw. And I don't like rounded corners, I like sharp right angles and defined lines. Startmenu seems to be better. Those atrocious tile things are no more and was replaced with widgets which seems to be a bit less atrocious. Seems like they optimized for tablets / touch controls. The size requirement alone makes me want to not update. Windows 10 supported until 2025, so there is still time.

  17. This is incredibly embarrassing. After weeks of trying to resolve the issue, I posted this topic, and we one more time went through all of our possible solutions. We started with disabling the TLS option. Him: "I've disabled it, but it's not an in-game option." Me: "... What? No. It is an in-game option. Go to Settings --> Options --> Lobby, and disable TLS encryption" Him: "... Oh... I haven't tried that yet. I only disabled it in Windows' options." Me: " " Apologies everyone. He can now connect. All is well. We've been trying to play this game together for 4 weeks. Finally, it's fixed.

  18. My take on how you can easily install SVN (latest development build) on windows: Download and install (make sure you check the command line tools option) https://tortoisesvn.net/downloads.html Make a folder where you like, name it whatever you like. Open this folder. Click the adress bar, type cmd and press enter. into the screen that popped up copy & paste: svn co https://svn.wildfiregames.com/public/ps/trunk/ If it says 'At revision xxxxx' it's done downloading. run \binaries\system\pyrogenesis.exe to start svn. To update svn, right mouse click the folder, choose 'svn update'. (made this post for revival of the thread to attract new people for testing / showing easability to install)

  19. I really want to model a new republican CC for the game. Haven't had time yet.
