Middle ages seems. I dont like the art... Too phony... I really prefer 3. And I think that it's a bad decision calling it 4 (middle ages were done already)2 points

Hey all, I'm pretty new to the RTS genre, having only picked it up about two months ago and playing not too frequently, only about a couple hours every few weeks. Recently, I've been playing matches against 0 A.D.'s Petra AI on Medium and after losing 3 matches against it I managed to beat it pretty handily today as the Britons vs. Mauryans. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what I should improve on so I can take on harder AI and ranked online. I notice that I'm not too great at keeping units and buildings non-idle and I don't build things like barracks and houses soon enough. I also think I need to work on micro, which is kind of nonexistent for me right now. commands.txt metadata.json1 point

Now, don't shoot me dead, but I don't think it looks half bad... What I really like is the terrain elevations, the cliffs, the fauna and biome in general, as well as the renderer. That having said, it's obviously a carefully choreographed cinematic trailer, not even close to gameplay... It also doesn't give me an AoE vibe. Top comment: "For me its like The Age of Stronghold Settlers 4". What I don't like is the oversaturated, cartoonish look. I'm also a little surprised that after Alexandermb and wackyserious' work, a lot of our units in 0AD are looking better than that closeup of the Mongolian cavalry... Age of Empires' latest releases and announcements renews popular interest in RTS games, which is good for us, and the new titles aren't exactly 0AD killers either, which is also good for us.1 point

Luckily I doubt support will drop on the day of release. The current reaction on steam is around 74% positive. Hardly the best start, but I've heard of worse game releases.1 point

Ensemble Studios already knew they will screw it a lot if they didn't do medieval age. They know what a failure was AoE 3 era, not the gameplay, not the design, The Era. They could start from there a new 3D era for ensemble studios gaming, however making WW1 or WW2 is more difficult since it will be probably a copy from Empire Earth or Command and Conquer. Honestly the most interesting aspect of RTS Genre are: Fantasy, Roleplaying, Ancient History, Medieval History. The Gunpowder Era in RTS Genre doesn't sell too much unless you are ready to handle such amount of entities like Cossacks. Gunpowder era is more for First Person Shooter or Spionage. A WW1/2 game would fit perfectly with the Dawn of War gameplay. But in a game like AoE 2 or a Gameplay like Ensemble Studios does, is just a basic genre RTS. Unless they are going all in with a Settlers Economy management in AoE 4 mixed with the micro managamente of AoE 1/2.1 point

Someone else is disappointed with the Age 4 trailer. Sincerely and I was waiting for the Victorian age at the first war and I get out again with soliders throwing arrows and knights, sh*t!1 point

Here is an updated presentation, I didn't notice the other export to PDF-A was flawed because of alpha transparency. Also fixed some stuff, and improved some image quality. GrafikLabor 2019.pdf1 point

Another idea I'd like to try out but have no idea how to implement: 63. Instead of a player population setting, have a world population setting; each surviving player is then entitled to a 1/n share. E.g. a four player game with a world population of 600: all players have a maximum population limit of 150 at start; one player is defeated, the others can now have up to 200; then another is defeated, both survivors up to 300. Methinks this would provide an interesting dynamic (do you keep weak players alive to prevent stronger opponents from training more units?) while avoiding performance issues and improving realism.1 point
