Hi all, Now is the time to use the power of the 0 A.D. community to develop the next 1v1 event. This thread is the main place for you to share, and vote for, all of your valuable ideas for the style, duration, score system, rules, streaming, commentating, drawing of lots, level of players, awards, etc. anything. Let's all work together to make it better. Event Period: Late October 4 weeks + 1 week optional on Sundays at 17.00 UTC Here are the rules: -Single elimination, 8 Players, 3 rounds -The best players have priority to play. You need to be in the room early if you want to play. -Players are allowed to ban 2 civs before every round. -300 pop, small map, no dance -The best players have priority to play. You need to be in the room early if you want to play. -Players will be ordered by seed, best to worst. -If you win, you gain 3 points. 0 A.D. is a great game; but somehow, the general public is not aware of this. Previous attempts to rectify this situation have been ineffective in terms of publicity and management. With better organization, we can all enable the community to more efficiently utilize collaboration techniques. The 0 A.D. Community is growing; it is the right time for us to move the next step. Hi, I’m here to talk about a project 2 friends and I have. We really like 0AD, we’re not « hardcore » players but we enjoy playing it from time to time. We want to create a guide to introduce players to 0AD. It won’t be heavily focused on stats and other details that big players enjoy reading, it will be a bit more simple to understand and read for new players who just want to have an introduction to the world of 0AD. There will be descriptions about the different factions with all the different units and buildings you can create. We will talk about the historical periods in which each faction were at there peak of civilization. There will be many illustrations created by the 2 artists with who I’m creating this project. Like I said, it really is an introduction to the world of 0AD. We really are motivated and we want to create something that new players could read to make them want to play this amazing game. I’d like to know what you think about this project. Would you be interested in reading this book ? If so, what do you think should be in it ? And if not, why ? Also, if you have a word to describe this book ? (it’s a mix between a guide and an artbook but I can’t really find a word to describe it) I apologize in advance for my English, and thanks for reading this post. It's just a basic fact that since the source code for the whole engine is openly available modding said engine is easier though finding appropriate documentation is problematic and project dependent,closed source projects limit you to the scripting language that was chosen as well as making changes to the engine are precluded the Hyrule mod includes actual engine changes not just assets and scripting . Exactly ! I don't want to focus much on the gameplay because things could change in the future. I will focus on historical background and concepts art like you said I started writing and looking for informations this morning. I can only work on this project few hours every Thursday, and on my spare time. I hope I will be able to finish it on time, I think most of the work will be to create the artworks. I'll do my best to create something that the community and new players will enjoy reading and looking at.1 point

Great! My suggestion is that I think 0 A.D. wiki can be a great baseline for your project, at least the outline can be used. If you're going this way, then it should be easier since you don't have to work from scratch. You just have to add what you think should be added and remove irrelevant parts, for example historical background, i.e. why this faction is in-game, why are they represented by these units, etc. If these seem overwhelming to you and seemingly required extensive research, worry not, as it was already researched by 0 A.D. team right here in this very forum. References on historical background and concept art, discussion on gameplay designs and balance, it's all here. It is just a matter of finding the correct threads and extracting the knowledge for public consumption. I believe the guidebook you're trying to create will be very useful, as it will not only help players to understand the game, but also rope people who are interested in the history to play this game. Even game devs could potentially integrate your guide into the game in many ways. The problem is that this game right now is still unfinished, so any detailed information about gameplay could potentially be obsolete at any time. So my suggestion is to focus less on the gameplay and more to the historical background and concept arts.1 point

Can you bake the wood and the hay texture on a 2048x1024 texture ? As well as normal if you have it ? EDIT: Maybe your new barrels/crate texture as well ?1 point

Siege Workshop: I think a Town Phase siege workshop that creates weak battering rams is good idea. Like the "2 or 4 guys with a log" mentioned earlier. Then in the city phase new siege units become available based on civilization. I don't want to see universal covered rams or other siege units for all civs. Let each have their own devices. I don't think the covered battering ram should be an upgrade to the "2 or 4 guys with a log"; it should be a separate unit. The "2 or 4 guys with a log" should be less expensive than the covered ram and get built quicker. By the way, how about making siege weapons garrisoned in siege workshops automatically get repaired like soldiers regaining health in a temple? Walls: Here's my thing about walls - I NEVER build stone walls in the town phase. Seriously, who has time for that!? Committing soldiers to building instead of gathering resources to expand pop, and also delaying your ability to go to the city phase because of the stone requirement makes stone walls too cost-prohibitive for the town phase. I like the idea of cheaper stone walls that can be built quicker than city walls beginning in phase 2. But if they are allowed to be upgraded to city walls in the city phase the upgrade cost and research time needs to be significant. Fortress: Removing siege production from the Fortress is a tough call. I'm no historian but it doesn't seem realistic. On the other hand anything that makes it harder to defend your fortress by garrisoning and ungarrisoning battering rams might be a step in the right direction.1 point

Moddability; there are so many awesome mods (as you said) but it is also suprisingly easy to make adjustments yourself. - You like the slaves from DE but don't like that they don't turn to GAIA when too far away from your own units? Easy to change. - Strange to see units walking casually towards their target in the midst of battle? No problem, quick change and they charge. - Want elephants to run amok instead of fighting to the death? Lets do it! I could go on but I think you get the point1 point

@Sepelin I wouldn't bother reporting someone for leaving a ranked game. This always happens in every single game similar to this one and this game is no different. If anything your rank shouldn't be moved but the player that left should be. No need to report.0 points
