The variety of weapons in this period is pretty limited. They seem to have mainly use spear, javelins and short swords.

I'm only talking about timings, what someone is first confronted with, the rest is a different matter. Really? Is that what you are going to quote as "utterly offensive"? People wanting timings 3x faster than SC2 and someone's experience? And I would have thought the mild trolling (not gigantic, though) is what bothered you. Disappointed. You can keep being dismissive of the reasons people give for leaving, threads here, opinions outside, foundational documents, variables from other games, statistics regarding their players (labelling all that "telling everyone how things should be done", no, I agree with that, you don't, just get over it), if I play the game at all (no, I got what I tell newbies from reading the non-existent manual), non-gameplay detailed posts (labelling them as "spam"), and those that apparently have "demonstrated so little" no matter how much time they actually invest (because, have you already gotten any sensible grasp of the time needed to summarise the information I have, or are you going to keep coming with laughable criteria like sign-up date?) in trying to make content more palatable for the astounding majority who doesn't give a single d*mn about competitive play. Nice mentality.

On the usage of AI to generate 0 A.D. content

You can train her to make weird helmet shapes; sometimes these drawings are even useful for drawing. Even if they are just conceptual sketches. I'm currently recreating troops from Palmyra; I'll have to draw them, since people call this AI slope, but it's always useful for inspiration. They are precisely lacking in illustrations, and although there is documentation and even visual material, no one has dared to depict these warriors. Niederbieber is another helmet that the AI doesn't know how to replicate. -

A horse hair crested bronze Attic helmet. Chrysaor emblazoned shield (sourced from pottery). 7-foot spear with butt spike. Scale reinforced tube-and-yoke linothorax with shoulder flaps, pteruges, and Gorgon medallion centered on his chest. Greaves. Sandals. Aegean seaside background. The face is a canonical master I trained into memory I can use over and over again. The only major problem I see is the length of the butt spike at the bottom of his spear.

There is a branch for r29 r29 branch. I have cleaned up and condensed files and more in the recent updates, both for 28 and 29. I would be glad to have your feedback

You guys actually got the zip to unzip? When I tried to, I got an error, and it didn't unzip

I took a look some time ago at the changes. They contain mostly single player optimizations. And beside some useful changes there are visual degradations. Our repo contains a PR with more appropriate LLM changes here: https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad/pulls/9257, but the generated code isn't in production ready state.

Maybe you just don't understand the optimization, bro. /s

It's the Comic Sans age of "AI", these are all explicit (presented by the AI provider as such) or implicit (from the model training) presets. One reason is the provider thinks some presets create fewer errors than others. It's funny how each generation of e.g. the OpenAI/ChatGPT image tool produces its own distinct look that has nothing to do with the one from the previous iteration. If you try to prompt a different style it just looks more like a filter applied. Things have been slowly getting better in that regard though. -

AI doesn't know how to make historical military equipment. Ai does not know how to create helmets like the Intercisa and others from the 3rd century. Another common problem is footwear. There are several problems, but these are the most serious ones. -

Map wasn't made to be 100% balanced, it is a Roleplay style map i made for a community so 100% balancing wasn't entirely needed but in terms of balance each civ starts with at least two metal and stone deposits close, certain civs have more in terms of resources due to the roleplay factor and each regions historical resource landscape. Give it a try it's still a very fun map and i put a lot of time into it to make it enjoyable to play and look at.

I know the timings. Do you really think it all comes down to that? Have you ever watched a good, average-level SC2 or AoE II player and then watched one of the very best 0 A.D. players? The difference in APM is OVERWHELMING. And the game is moving even further in that direction with patches like Box Targeting. You can keep telling everyone how things should be done, you can keep spamming every post that comes along with your detailed observations. but if you attack people you don't even know, you'll have to deal with the backlash. So I will quote your own words again, which were utterly offensive and showed absolutely no consideration for a whole bunch of people you don't even know.

Things don't change overnight; you need patience and to make "things work". -
Exactly that's what I meant when writing that we all try contributing different things - expertise, historical accuracy, programming, art, music, voices, reviews, whatever. Please don't get discouraged. Your contributions are valued! And BTW this is true for everyones contributions.

[Devlog] Burning Heart (a narrative campaign for 0 A.D.)
Nicolaus_von_Kues replied to lilypoppy's topic in General Discussion
My concern stems from the use of mods and repeated material in the campaigns. Imagine having many modes and many campaigns that redundantly use material, i.e., 3D and 2D art, even repeated templates, giving a large weight to the folders.- 31 replies

I can't understand how you can't just check them and see the speeds I mentioned are indeed those? What are you even talking about? And we have gone over this already once over 6 months ago, for which I have to say I must be a very bad lurker if I couldn't find more opportunities to cherry-pick instances to debate this issue, if that's what I actually want to do, according to you. The game is community driven, and I think it deviates from what the foundational documents describe. I don't know who is responsible in particular, and I don't care, since that's not even the point, no matter how much you want to hurl strawman accusations. I'm interested in the game the foundational documents describe, and if that has to be scratched out, fine, I would still think that it proposed a better game, and that there were well thought reasons for it. If all of that is so confronting to you, I'm really sorry, but that's what I think, and you just have to get over it, instead of reacting with highly inappropriate and nonsensical remarks demeaning the time I've invested, unless your intention is for people to leave to wherever their work is actually appreciated. It is, quite literally, an example of someone leaving for a reason similar to what others have stated. I'm not claiming it's the main and only reason why people do so, that's yet another strawman. In any case, I think this is way more abstract than the speeds I've mentioned before, so I don't even see it as a big problem (while I understand his view), and in fact I did state in that thread that stuff like that "would be interesting to have as Achievements" (but that's it, a challenge, a curiosity, not something that could end up having so much weight in the outcome), but sure, let's just ignore most of what I actually write for the sake of your indignation. Well, you know, it's actually quite hard to do so when being told that it's worth "so little" at the end. I'd like to see someone reading Morrison's book first, and then considering dozens on top of that, to have a grasp of how much "nerve" and "confidence" it would take to label summarising all that information as "so little", or if that wouldn't actually be a better descriptor of how much clue and shame one has to have to say such absurdity. Wasn't the rule "less than me, more than you"?
