wackyserious
The developers should have stayed with the gritty look, smoother graphics makes it look more cartoony, IMO.

I see Malian villagers are still white people, because why not... And what's up with those walls? The buildings looks so generic. Sad because the Mali Empire was one of the pioneers of the Sudano-Sahelian architecture style, which is pretty distinct and still popular in the region today... I'm sure we can do a lot better for one of our future mods... Spoiler Sudano-Sahelian architecture: Some concept-art Some of the other architecture sets look really nice though! Cumans look delicious... Edited June 18, 2019 by Sundiata

The rest of the set is a little meh (same for the Ethiopians), but then again, age of Empires goes for uniformity over historical accuracy, so they have a very narrow format to work with, I think.
Thorfinn the Shallow Minded
I just wish that popular culture based its understandings of the Middle Ages from this game. I don't mean to sh*t-talk AoE or anything, and this AoE II DE is looking promising. As I said I actually like a lot of the architecture sets. I'm just always a bit nit-picky with my favourite histories. Anyway, renewed popular interest in classic RTS games can only be good for us, so it's a win win either way.

A villager have walk, hunt, build, slaughter, fishing, foraging, meat gather (hunt), meat gather (sheep), wood cutting, cutting the tree down, mining, shuttling food, shuttling wood, shuttling stone/gold, shuttling meat from hunt, shuttling meat from sheep, shuttling fish, shuttling berries, idle and death animation variations. I have AoC, so I went ahead and took the sprites out a while ago. And I decided to count the number of sprites for the villagers. There were over 7000 sprites for a single unit (male and females combined). $ cd Units/Villager && find . -name \*.png | wc -l 7035 Going 3D was the only reason 0AD manages to have so much unit variety. 35 civs each having unique unit variations would make the Genie engine cry. av93
At least black villager. I hope a toggeable regional unit DLC, that would also a winwin. No more full plated european champs for aztecs
