mickmca
Not sure if this is a bug or a feature. 1. Building a wall at a shoreline is futile; the enemy just wades around it. 2. Building walls in the Lion's Den, some odd things happened. First, I built a wall that didn't end with an arrow tower (not sure why). This was impossible to fix, and the enemy just squeezed through where the tower should have been. Second, I built a wall across a canyon about six units wide. When it was done, I couldn't add a gate. Third, we really need some sort of error message about why the wall we are proposing just won't do, like the one you get for building locations. I spend more than half of my build time sweeping the wall proposal around the anchor piece and getting red here, red there. Fourth, and this is probably a feature, if you build a gate, you can put defenders ON the gate. Cool. 3. The Persian Gate is not a gate, and it can't be converted to a gate. Again, I found this out by walling myself in....
elexis
1+2 -> Yep, wall placement code is odd, leaves gap, can't continue walls if the turret is missing. Will be tough to fix 3 -> Had proposed some patch to make this an actual gate, but the model guys weren't really happy with it, wanted to improve it, and that's where we left last release. What was there actually todo @stanislas69 ? Making sure the towers don't overlap? The entire thing just being too huge for a gate? Only found this screenshot in the irclogs Afaics it historically was part of a wall too
wowgetoffyourcellphone
See DE for a semi working version of the ishtar gate.

Stan`
@elexis More was on that thread My issue was the size of that gate, in order to make it somewhat correct, the problem was the towers. it would actually be too big.
Lion.Kanzen
What happen exactly?
Stan`
Ishtar gate is bigger than the long wall, making it impossible to upgrade. Because the blue towers would overlap the persian tower, and unless they were much bigger which would be a ugly hack IMHO the only solution would be to get rid of the towers, hence making the Ishtar gate a bit lame.

FeXoR
Oh, the opening is to small for units to be passed by all units then, @stanislas69 ?

Sure, but then that is easily adjustable in the template.
Stan`
@FeXoR Yes. @wowgetoffyourcellphone Indeed but you'd have to do that for every scale.

How many scales are you going to have for one object? lol I thought we were just talking about scaling the Ishtar Gate to the long wall segment length, which is one fixed length. fatherbushido
I found that about the Persian gate (on Wijitmaker deviantart page) https://wijitmaker.deviantart.com/art/Persian-Fortress-20641348 I copy here the relevant description: Quote In the game, this is a fortress where troops can be garrisoned in. This building will likely change as we are not sure we like the blue on the front portion. It was intended to have the look of the famous Gates of Ishtar, but we might save that for the Persian special gates and make the front of the fortress look similiar to how the back looks now. What do you think?
Sundiata
You guys used the wrong reference for that special Persian Gate :-/ The Ishtar Gate was built by Nebuchadnezzar II of the Neo-Babylonian Empire in 575BCE in Babylon. Persepolis, the actual Achaemenid Persian capital should be the primary source for such buildings, like the CC, which is excellent. I've seen other people criticise the Persians for looking too Babylonian before in youtube comments. The Gate of All Nations, built by Xerxes I between 486 and 465BCE at Persepolis would be a much better option in my opinion. Stan`
@Sundiata the gate of all nations has been made by Enrique and only needs a few props. Search the art forum for it.
