Should we go towards less units on screen (but keep similar gameplay)?
alre replied to BeTe's topic in Gameplay Discussion
good question. I always thought it was the third one, but now I want to hear it from someone who actually likes the high popcap games. anyone? in the end, you still have a game that is like rock-paper-scissors, where rock and paper overlap for a good part (booming=turtling), so the third option (rushing) cannot compete. you gotta decouple the best booming strategy from the best defensive strategy, otherwise you'll still have everyone going for that one strategy only. -
right. I was confused. arrows don't auto-follow btw.

they used the engine from aoe4, it was easier to them to keep the aoe4 layout anyway. of course 0ad vanilla GUI feels pretty outdated on modern monitors, but you don't need to look at aoe4 to see that, just check boonGUI out.

buildings have lower contrast compared to the original version. It seems to me the did a better job with units.

I haven't been playing for a lot of time, so consider that when you read this: I hate to see that @real_tabasco_sauce actions pass as liberally informing people of facts of interest. He's committed in a war against a part of this game's community and, unprovoked, he harasses players who he knows to use ProGui. I want now to make some points in order to ground what I said. That I know of, there has never been an actual, true quarrel about some player stealing their rank with this mod, or trying to swindle a competition. I actually made the only claim of this kind in this forum, and everybody knows a quarrel like this would be settled easily. This is important: real_tabasco is not backing the protests of wronged players, he's fighting his own fight against people who have an idea of the game he dislikes. He's not going in games Atrik's is in to generously inform players about the game and its mod, he's targeting another player and trying to put him in a bad light because he did something that was never disallowed: creating a mod from others that already existed and were widely accepted already. If you agree with real_tabasco you may think now that Atrik crossed a line with ProGui, but the line was one real_tabasco traced only after the mod was already out. Of course there are many players who dislike the mod and would rather have it banned, but there is not the consensus for this. There are also good long-time players of this game who like the mod and don't want to stop using it. They don't agree with a ban and have reasons, even if you don't agree with their reasons. I should remark now that I don't know the whole history of the discussions that came between @Atrik and real_tabasco, very little of it in fact, and it only happened once to me that - it was either him or his brother, can't remember - joined one of my games as a spectator, and warned the others about me and ProGui (btw I was host, wouldn't hide anything). It was just one time, I don't know if he would have insisted if I kept playing. Still, I feel offended that someone that wasn't even part of the match, tried to convince others that I was cheating them. He didn't manage though, they also stayed for a rematch. Another time, I was trash-talked by a spectator who I can't remember, because of ProGui, and then I've also seen many other fights about ProGui in the lobby, none of them with any consideration for facts, same as most smurf accusations thrown around to raise flame and troll around. If the community is ever to heal from this, it needs some positivity, it doesn't need real_tabasco's crusade.

on which topic exactly? Geriatrix is not being accused of any violation. this topic is not more useful than the other one.

less precise sorting in range manager
alre replied to real_tabasco_sauce's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
so all position data is integer values? does this mean that each turn units movement is rounded down according to isqrt? just curious. -
ProGui was never intended to give an advantage to people using it, the main reason for using ProGui is that it makes the game more enjoyable by providing less demanding ways to control production, which is the least fun part of the game to many people. then it came the anti-ProGui sentiment and players accusing others of using ProGui to take an edge over the rest of them. it built so much distrust... even after the whole smurf drama, things managed to get worse.

there is a problem with creating teams rating, which is that it needs a pull request to the lobby code, which is harder to test (easy enough to change though), possibly on top of a mod to the game as well. @Dunedan is the lobby maintainer. last time we had this same discussion he said he would accept a pull request with good enough guarantees it wouldn't breack anything.

I believe all hits count on 0ad.

which? seems like they're going to do all of that. gameplay is also updated. they had announced that all god powers will have unlimited uses, on a countdown, but from the video above it seems maybe they walked away from that idea. pity, I liked it.

BUG: Using the hotkey allows sending flares when not intended
alre replied to Vantha's topic in Bug reports
just enable flares to winners. viewing flares should always be allowed as flares could be triggered by a script. -
Introducing the Official community mod for Alpha 26
alre replied to wraitii's topic in Gameplay Discussion
first, units select palpable targets from the preferred class enemy units within range, then minimum distance is used for the final choice. -
Alpha 27 Pre-release/Release Candidate Build Testing
alre replied to Stan`'s topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
that's not the case for a26, don't know about a27. it would be very strange a map like fortress changed auras behavior, did you test this in other maps? -
already in the game. the last tab of end game statistics shows all the charts.

potassium allone will make your tongue blow up, potassium salt is fine. what's the problem whith licking Helium?

it could have been because of the follwers too.

you cannot give that guarantee, you can only speak for your taste. I can't see why you should try to change the mind of someone who clearly wants to try the game differently. You rightly warned that a lot of PvP players would consider it a cheat, but all this animosity towards Atrik - who just provided the OP with exactly what they asked - is unjustified.

Others RTS - Discuss / Analysis

I'm not convinced at all. Manor Lords looks incredible for many reasons, but in terms of combat strategy, this video doesn't really say anything interesting to me. -
the game is better at lower pop imho.
-
like what? every statistic has its graph, personally I only look that. There you can see peak and end values as well as the whole history. I second that. fgod mod had a nice feature on this matter (currently discontinued).
-
it could start as a mp-compatible mod like boonGUI. A mod could even save the whole history of kills of each unit and display that.

JC is very foul-mouthed.
