Norse_Harold is taking a break from moderation
Gurken Khan replied to Norse_Harold's topic in Announcements / News
I can't really say much about moderation, the people, the processes, the policies. But it seems obvious to me that policies shouldn't be decided by a single person. And it also seems obvious to me that the single address for a complaint about a person mustn't be that person themself. Regarding leadership and inaction: maybe it's time that the people who can decide something decide something. It's been over a year now that @Stan` stepped down as project lead? As far as I'm aware there hasn't been a word since regarding leadership or the general structure of the project. Let's hope we can sort out this situation and the way forward amicably. -
Sounds like a you problem to me. Maybe you could elaborate why you hate it? As things are I gonna continue building a ring of fields around my CC with a ring of houses around that, so my women don't have to go to some location to work but work right where they spawn and are easier to protect. (I do some additional farming somewhere in the back.) And what else should I build there? I never build markets downtown but at the very fringes to maximize distances. Apart from incentivizing farming somewhere off the CC with fertile land I guess a bunch of auras could be added to the CC to encourage building urban centers (houses get housing bonus, markets get resource trickles, forges get research bonuses...). If it is deemed worth the effort.

While one could win spamming only f&w units, there wouldn't be access to p3, certain buildings and a lot of tecs, the forge upgrades for example. With a slower eco (very limited gathering tecs) and a weaker army (because of few/no forge upgrades) it could only be successful to a certain difficulty level.

I once again want to mention that I'm very unhappy with the game using different numbers from what is shown to the player. Everything looks like I can build a CC, but when I press the button nothing happens. I didn't even get an error message, which I believe was the case previously. I had to get another metal to build, it's a rounding thing and a fringe case. Still I think it's fundamentally wrong that the numbers and the button make it seem like I can build that structure when in fact I can't. And it's still baffling to me that parts of the game think I can build it (as shown by the normal appearance of the button), while other parts decide I cannot (as evidenced by pressing said button). It would be better if the button was greyed/redded out and told me what the problem is, but ideally there wouldn't be different interpretations of 187. savegame-1459.0adsave

Planned Disruption - Migration to git and Gitea
Gurken Khan replied to Itms's topic in Announcements / News
I wanted to point someone to the FAQ, but the gitea version looks like an "AI" generated placeholder, no pics, lots of raw html... So if anybody were to look for something useful to do: I think the wiki could use some love... -
Hi @Pippo_Baudo, welcome to the forums. This would belong in the "Help & Feedback" subforum, but don't worry. Have you tried the tips in the FAQ? https://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/FAQ If that doesn't help you could attach your logs to your reply so that people could look into those. Here's how to find them: https://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/GameDataPaths

Ackchually, some civs don't have spearmen but pikes. And is it "basic" when it's p2? But maybe I'm too pedantic. I'm for rephrasing it to "huge" tracts of land.

Bulding Snapping Feature
Gurken Khan replied to vladislavbelov's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
I only use snapping when I'm iber and want my houses to align with the walls; the one-click orientation is just faster. I gotta do the actual placement manually though, because the houses ALWAYS jump off the position I want them at when I click; dunno if it's because I use it with shift, but it's annoying. I've tried it with palisades and walls in the current RC and was disappointed it didn't work. You still have to manually look for the right millimeter position if you want it to to start right at a building or mountain. And it's still annoying AF if you want to complete a barricade when (a) segment(s) have been shot out. -
Introducing the Official community mod for Alpha 26
Gurken Khan replied to wraitii's topic in Gameplay Discussion
Yeah, quite often. I find it aggravating when I'm pulling cav back and some pedestrian motherhugger hits me from ~halfway across the map. Maybe pikemen do it, but of course it's very noticeable with the punch crossbows have. -

Introducing the Official community mod for Alpha 26
Gurken Khan replied to wraitii's topic in Gameplay Discussion
I like the idea of giving sister civs sister bonuses. For me the Briton bonus always comes into play but it's not a big deal; for ten healers it's worth 250 res. It would feel like an upgrade to the brit bonus and gaul pretty much staying the same (doubling effect, halving affected tecs). I don't know if it's less generic and would actually affect gameplay. I guess you're proposing it here so it will be tested before going into vanilla? What I really don't appreciate is civ specific bonuses; if I don't have access to eles or mercs those bonuses are worthless. [I usually don't make eles or siege (unless I have two or more iber enemies), so those bonuses are usually worthless for me, but that might be a personal problem.] -
Archaeological potpourri
Gurken Khan replied to Gurken Khan's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
@Genava55 I heard about it yesterday on Deutschlandfunk and also meant to post about it. What I found interesting is A: that finds are skewed because flintstone arrowheads can't be found with metal detectors. And B: they figured from the arrowheads that the group from the south attacked at a bridge, were repelled, fled downstream where they were shot down with northern arrows. Here's the Antiquity article: https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/antiquity/article/warriors-from-the-south-arrowheads-from-the-tollense-valley-and-central-europe/C4F6ECB759833BFD337D37ADAE564C4B#article -
Yup, that was it.

If someone is looking over the loading screen tips: I just read one saying most champions are built in the fortress; which is not the case anymore...

Do newbs understand that terminology?

@alre I like that you cross-checked it. But I'm not sure if we can discern from the written Latin how ironic it was meant. When I think of all the dongs on Hadrian's wall or the graffiti in Pompeii I get the feeling they were a pretty mischievous bunch. (Reading up on the dongs they supposedly were meant to ward off bad luck...) -
I was in this discussion and when I saw the pic I went "huh?". I think the text should be even more detailed than what you wrote, e.g. not only including "right" but also left center and left. I don't find it ideal that the rally point is not visible on the ele.
