Hello everyone, We are a bit late to the party but it's time for you to vote for the next name of the Alpha. As you all know we reached the end of the Latin alphabet. We decided that for this alpha we would instead choose a name matching the biggest feature(s). Our biggest feature for A27 is Vulkan support so naturally we are gonna name it after that. An obvious choice would be Alpha 27 : Vulcan the roman god of the smiths. But we thought we could pimp it a little by making a reference to it using another similar deity.1 point

Ok, but what makes https://code.wildfiregames.com/D4952 bad? There are already 2 very niche heroes for Maurya, one of which has an eco/military combination as @wowgetoffyourcellphone discusses. The other is a purely economic hero. It makes perfect sense to have a more militaristic hero in the form of chandragupta.1 point

I agree we should allow more rows on right mouse drag, with missiles on the back. I'm very convinced about this. Doesn't need to be hadled by formations code at all.1 point

possible UI control for formations: Selection of formation type for units like it already is, in lower menu. expand the menu to give settings for "attack" and "defense" formation. Attack determines how units move into combat, defense is for standing down (holding a line). Individual behaviour settings for both could be fancy (agro settings...). Controls: Ctrl + RightMouseClick = Attack move without formation Ctrl + RightMouseVectorDrag = attack with set attack formation in the drawn angle (draw an arrow or something) RightMouseClick = move / interact without formation RightMouseVectorDrag = apply defense formation to given area. Could give flexibility if the units would respect the length of the drawed line. for example, if you chose dense line as defense formation, the length and thickness of the line would vary based on the vector which the player has drawn. ...but surely there are other ways to do it aswell.1 point

New article from Appleesfera (Xataka web focused Apple products). https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.applesfera.com/juegos-os-x/he-estado-probando-0-ad-mi-mac-puede-que-haya-encontrado-solucion-a-mi-mono-age-of-empires/amp the article goes like this: ""In the absence of Age of Empires I have played 0 AD on my Mac: wololos missing but nothing else."" I've always had a little bug to kill since I've been using Mac(---bug or worm in this case is a expression for a curiosity---), especially during the last few years as the platform has become more and more exclusive: to regain my love for the Age of Empires game series. Microsoft hasn't made them compatible with macOS since the special version of the second installment, and it's missed being able to play the Definitive Edition and part IV that are available on Steam. I have tried an open alternative that may well entertain me and that works quite well even on Macs with Apple Silicon. I'm talking about 0 AD, known as "the open Age of Empires". Installing 0 AD on my Mac mini M1 was not difficult. Just go to the game's download site and select the 64-bit version for Intel chips or the 'M1' version for Macs with Apple Silicon chips. Download the application, move it to the Applications directory on your Mac, and that's it. Even at 4K resolution the performance does not disappoint, and its requirements support computers of a certain age. As long as you have macOS 10.12 Sierra installed, you're good to go. The game does not hide too many secrets for those who have already had their vices to Age of Empires of yesteryear: you have an aerial view of what starts as a small village and you advance as you collect resources and increase your population. YouTube is full of games recorded by fans: ---in the image they show a video of Mayorcete --- There are some differences, especially in what we consider 'villagers'. While in Age of Empires these only serve to collect resources and build (and for a very poor defense), in 0 AD you train warriors that make use of villagers while it is not time to attack. And right from the start you have several types of these warriors, each with its own resource requirements. And if you don't want that, you can always train female villagers that lack the warrior part. As for the fights, the system does not change. You train troops, explore the terrain, locate the enemy base to attack it and defend your city. The single player campaign is still very basic(They say that a is not developed), but we can generate single player games to pass the time. I'll keep an eye on the development of the original Age of Empires, no doubt about it, but 0 AD stays installed on my Mac mini for the days off I can take. If you miss the real-time strategy game, 0 AD is free and is still in continuous development.1 point

Nevermind, I misunderstood. I thought I was polishing the civs because they will be added to public in some later alpha, so I was wondering which one to add first. Since the Germans are for Terra Magna, then I will just work on them and ignore whatever goes on in public.1 point

Every single unit uses one of the 10+ meshes and just changes skin texture, helmets, weapons, shields, greaves... using a system called "variants". Here is an example here https://code.wildfiregames.com/D4938 on a usage of variants for biomes. Note that this system is quite complex, if you want to handle all the cases, you need n*n variants for names like "tech_a-tech_b-tech_c" and "tech_b-tech_c-tech_d" (One can order techs alphabetically to reduce the amount, but still)1 point

Then why this thread? Why all this debate about the Cimbri? Is this what you want?1 point

Although I don't understand why we are talking about including a German faction in 0 A.D. vanilla, it is very sudden. Scythians, Xiongnu, Lusitanians, Thracians, Cimbri, Maya, Zapotecs... is there some kind of euphoria spreading in the forum or just immaturity?1 point

You can use "last survivor" setting aswell, so that only one player may win... //EDIT: too slow...1 point

Why dont you use the feature "last survivor"?1 point

Probably wise to hold off on that, however, because there are some huge changes to eles: https://trac.wildfiregames.com/changeset/27391 This will make them less effective against buildings and much more effective against units.1 point

Only one reference to "elephants" in the Gameplay FAQ. Maybe someone will add some of the info from this thread...1 point

I play a lot with ele at the moment maybe it was with me you had as opponent this game? I'm not sure how to counter this kind of gameplay, but i can tell what's annoy me when i do this strategies. What i prefer to do is ele + slinger it's really efficient, but once i start attacking i almost produce only elephants (at leas with 3 ele stable) in continue, so my eco is focus on that : 50 women on food and 15-20 guys on gold. if you kill my slingers, it will be hard for me to replace them because I won't have enough stone and wood to replace them. What you have to know is also that in fact i lost a lot of elephants and they keep coming again and again to replace just as a meet shield, so if you go in my base killing few women or capturing my ele stable, it's over for me. Also those armies are slow if you move you army fast enough my ele would not do any damage. Now few tips to play like that : Ptols are great good food eco, slinger are great with elephant, awesome. Koushites : Ele are cheaper (best is to play ptol with a teammate as koush) beware archers are not as strong as slinger you'll have to focus on eco to replace ele and archers Mauryas are great +20 population easier to have a good eco, archers are weak, but you can build ele sable sooner, wich make ele faster. Make at least 3 ele stable and produce them in continue do not hesitate to put them in the middle of the battle, and loose them. keep ele in a control group, and beware to make them attack units all the time, if not they start destroying stupid thing all around. Have fun!1 point

1. check that your forge techs have been researched. Your enemy may have had a substantial advantage due to researching upgrades. 2. Don't commit the fight to only the elephants. If too much of your army is only attacking the 12 elephants, then the enemy can easily defeat your army. After this, they are down 12 elephants, but your entire army has been defeated. So, If they are not an immediate threat to important buildings like a fort or a civic center, you should focus on killing the army accompanying the elephants. Then once you have an advantage, then go after the eles. 3. when using eles, you need a sizeable force to accompany them. There are also heroes that effect eles such as Seleucus Nikator of the seleucids that provide valuable bonuses to elephants. Elephants can also be strong versus infantry because they can 1 hit depending on the upgrades and hero auras available. general tips for fighting (under the current balance of the game): do not attack an enemy with a long, strung out army. Say if you task your army to attack something far away, your ranged units will arrive first one by one and get melted. It is easy to lose a fight even with a massive number advantage like this. generally prioritize ranged attack upgrades and pierce armor, as ranged units are generally more powerful and influential in fights than melee units. if you see enemy defenses (temple, fort, etc), this a good indication of where not to attack, just go a little bit past them and make the fight awkward for your enemy. Likewise, don't spend time putting up tons of defenses in one area, just for your enemy to walk around. Don't take a fight you are not very confident in.1 point
