  4. I'm creating this thread as something I've been wanting to do for quite some time now. The goal is to receive community feedback on things they'd like us (The Art department) to give attention to for the year 2019. Disclaimer: Voicing your opinion here doesn't mean things will get done, but I hope it will allow me to see what the community wants. Do not hesitate to voice other people ideas that could be expressed on the lobby for instance IMPORTANT. I will not answer any comments related to adding new civs. Any such comment will be removed/edited. I know that's something you really want, but I can't give you satisfaction on it. If this topic becomes a bloodbath, It will be locked. IMPORTANT2: Do not post references here. Only text, if you need to ask for something specific make a thread and link it here. I will likely spend a lot of my time this year doing administrative stuff, like checking commits and answering the forums, but I still have some stuff I'd like to do on the eye candy for the game and the mapmakers, as well as some code too, to allow a deeper sound ambiance, working together with @Samulis I might also finish recording voices for the Kushites I also have the mods to attend to, and my personal one (Dwarves, go check the pictures on moddb) that I hope to finish this coming year. 6. You can only use one kind of material blending per object or actor. You could either give the golden fringe its own geometry in the mesh or make the fringe a prop with its own material blending (basic_trans.xml).

  7. SomeGuy just host a game by your own and play with the settings, then u will see where is that red line when u mark "Rated" and how it disapear when u unmark the option. best is to see it yourself. gl

  8. Dude you want to kill us with inflation like global economist did to us in real life?! Yeah, in OpenRA Ladder if you play with much better player and you lose, you will still get points. And opponent will get points as well. But both of you get so small amount of points which makes such matches pointless. That actually makes sense to me.

  9. @SomeGuy i suggest you start playing with real players, first team games / unrated 1vs1. its pretty different vs real players than AI

  10. 1. Huh, reset? I imagine I'd lose interest to gather points in that case. 2. Also not sure that it's "ratings nobody cares about" - isn't the recent community-mod tournament used Ratings to match opponents? Also I hope to see new tournaments organized and I guess they will use Rating to build up leagues/pairs. 3. Also one example from another open-source project (OpenRA Red Alert/Tiberian Dawn) - it has ratings website like this https://oraladder.net/ . It's divided in "This Period" and "All time" ratings with record to games. You can even watch replays. 4. One of parameters to seed leagues in OpenRA RAGL tournament is using Ladder ratings as well. So if you succeed to find opponent you could get into top league(s) in 1st season I think. Otherwise you start from the lowest league.

  11. Bear with me as I offer up the perspective of a noob (which understandably may not hold any weight with folks around here)... Having discovered 0AD recently and growing keenly interested in everything "under the hood" I've come to expect that playing against the AI will soon become of limited enjoyment. Which means I will eventually want to head over to play 1v1 with other live players. But I remain hesitant to take that step. My limited reading about live play suggests that the rating system is messed up (given comments on Youtube and this forum) and so I don't want to jump in and get tossed around by a confused rating system. Frankly, it has kept me from getting involved in live play. At a minimum, having a "non-rated" play arena might be more inviting ( = more 0AD users over time), as a kind of "live-play sandbox" where new players (or seasoned players, for that matter) can explore the game with human interaction without concerns about how it might affect their rating. This non-rated option has been offered in certain online chess platforms. If it were an option, I'd probably be playing there regularly - without concern for how all the blunders and mistakes I'll be making while I learn more about the game would be affecting my "track record" down the line. [And of course, if such a "non-rated" offering is already available, please advise! I haven't even bothered to search given all the complaints I see about the current state of the rating system. If it exists, I'll be over there looking for some 1v1 fun together.]

  12. Another question about textures that change to the player's color: Is there any way to retain transparency fo some parts of the texture? I really like the new feature of the banners for formations, since it allows me to easily include unique banners for every faction. However, since I don't want to make every banner a simple square or to individually model every flag shape, I was gonna use transparency to get differet flag shape. However, the player_trans material turning everything fully transparent into solid black is thrwing a wrench into that. Left is how it is supposed to look like, right is how it actually looks currently.

  13. This question deserves attention. Due to the way LocalRatings is structured, this is slightly similar to asking: what summary scores describe players' skills best? I am not aware of any (recent) related topic on the forum; if anyone knows, please link it. I personally find the default weights quite reliable, albeit not perfect. Any of the experienced players has a better clue?

  20. Sorry for the giga-necropost, but I was thinking of using some of the icons in this thread and also from the below topic for icons in the "unit specific upgrades" branch of the community mod. What is the ideal size for tech icons? (in pixels I guess)

  21. If you can sort out the legal issues, you should keep the game on Steam for free, and release the paid DLC as a donation for the developers.

  22. AFAIK neither gloox nor ejabberd support checking the current password during password changes, because you can change your password anyway only when already being authenticated. So to implement that you either have to check against a locally stored password or do some re-authentication during the password change. Checking against a local stored password is something which can be circumvented with a patched version of 0ad and isn't straight forward anyway, because storing the XMPP password is optional. Doing re-authentication with the XMPP-server during password change adds a lot of additional complexity and isn't as it's usually done with XMPP. Also keep in mind that most players which have stored their password in 0ad probably don't even know anymore what their password is and therefore wouldn't be able to change their password at all, if a password change would require typing in the current password. What would be the benefit of checking the current password anyway? In which situations would that provide a benefit? The only situation I can imagine right now is when granting an untrusted person access to your computer, but that's a case we shouldn't try to handle. If an untrusted person has access to your computer they can also simply install a keylogger and get the password that way. My suggestion is to keep the initial implementation as simple and straight-forward as possible. Avoid stuff which adds complexity in terms of code as well as in terms of user experience if it doesn't provide a significant benefit.

  24. I think Land Traders are also expensive. I think if there is a trader limit it could justify reducing production cost as well. 100 Food 80 Metal. 50 Food 30 Metal? Or just 50 Food? I think this would promote the use of traders and allow civs with trade bonuses and team trade bonuses to be worthwhile.

  27. SPI does work with a law firm but I don't know if they will help us in a timely fashion. (My experience has not been good in this respect.) I'm not sure I would handle this using legal means anyway. I would just write Steam and ask to take it down, and see what they say. I doubt that Valve would want to keep the game on their platform against the creators' wishes. That would be an unnecessary legal and PR risk on their side.

  28. Just a question: Has a weighting "meta" emerged? I think the mod is great but I don't want to spend a lot of time tweaking it so I thought I would benefit from others work if possible.

  31. Hi, i think its time to reset all ratings and change the system, nobody cares about rating anymore since there are lot of weak players with 19xx / 2k ratings... my suggest is to reset all ratings and change the system to that: -all 1vs1 games will be Rated. -u can't lose points (but u will lose your statistics), the points u will get will depends on your oponent rank. - if your oponent is lower than 200 points than yours, u will win no rating points (only statistics) i think this will drive again the passion to play 1vs1 games, anyway this is my opinion it could be bad idea tho
