  1. It's hard for me to understand. When we had slinger + ram spam in every game on a23, they complained that the game was basically limited to these few units. I remember very well many players asking for melee cavalry to be more powerful and appear more in the game. I also remember that they asked for melee infantry to be more powerful in the game, as we now have cavalry and melee infantry appearing much more, along with mercenaries that were once a completely equal unit. I agree that there are still some fine balance adjustments to be made, but bringing up arguments like "we should go back to being like a23" or "remove stables" is extremely ridiculous. It seems that most people would rather go the easy way of simply removing what's bad than working harder to try to fix it for the next alphas.

  2. StarGUI final.zipGreetings! I am proudly announcing my first mod: StarGUI. This mod aims to be a one-stop optimisation for your 0A.D experience, consisting of several other other useful and popular mods. It is a single zip file which is to be extracted and placed into your mod folder. I am still working on improvements to this mod and I am open to any suggestions! Please give it a try and reply below any comments. Download here:StarGUI final.zip Features: Autociv, Feldmap and Custom Rating all together, many thanks to @nani @Feldfeld and @go2die. The custom ratings mod had a bug which adds spaces after any numbers, but I fixed it so that the rating looks more realistic: my actual lobby rating is Sevda(1603) Large training icons to prevent misclicks (similar to the size in A23) Highlighted, golden projectiles. Amplified attack sounds from KateGUI. Borrowed metal mine, berries textures, blue chickens and enlarged British war dog model from KateGUI. (Thanks to @Yekaterina Golden projectile for better visibility.

  5. From a practical point of view, cavalry can't carry fire, how can they use a burning javelin? The Iberian Champion Cavalry feels to me now, as weird as I found out 8 years ago when I played Rome: Total War - Barbarian Invasion that the cavalry could fire burning arrow. Should the Iberian champion cavalry be replaced by infantry javelinmen if the incendiary javelin element is retained?

  6. It think one should be careful not to misquote people, but for me it is bad language/attitude to suggest that someone does so on purpose. For all of these changes, there are good reasons to accept them as well as there are good reasons to grief about them being eliminated. A23 is history right now. Some things have gone and some have come in place. Rather than saying this is bad, it is better to try to undestand both sides of the discussion. So we should look on how we can move forward. When discussing if something is unbalanced or not, the settings should be considered. Though there is a lot of complaining around here, there is not a lot of people that try to play in different settings. In A24 TG players said that there was to little metal, yet nobody with those complaints created a map where players start with 2 metal mines around their base.

  7. This isn’t true. When siege factories were unique to Mace you could push siege much earlier than with other civs. Now all the civs are the same with that respect

  8. Stop purposely misquoting me. I already said I couldn't care less about stables. And stop claiming responsibly for more civs being used now when those are just balancing changes (many of which you had nothing to do with)-- for proof see how a24 had people ONLY wanting to play Maurya because balance issues. Want a list on how a23 was more diverse? See below for a list off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more because I know I can't even remember all the civs off the top of my head in the time that I am willing to spend to write this post. Sele a cav health tech that actually mattered Persia a cav health tech that actually mattered unique stables, which are a handicap and much more than something that just "'looks' different" Brits building pop bonus Gauls building pop bonus Ptol free houses/storehouses/farmhouses/corrals Mace a unique siege building that allowed for unique strats Rome Camps could do more Sparta More champs options Less pop (I wasn't sad to see this go) Athens More champs options p2 champs Yeah, there are few things that are present in a24 and a25 that didn't exist in a23. That's a good thing. But almost none of those changes (I can't think of any besides mers, which have caused huge balancing problems) have anywhere near the impact that 1-7 above had.

  9. Do you think giving stables to other civilizations makes the game poorer? Is that your view of gameplay differentiation? Sorry for me this is very poor. When I think about diversifying civilizations I think we can be much better than keeping a stable for just one civilization because it "looks" different. Where was a23 most diverse? Only 2 or 3 civilizations were used, and the same units every game. Having a kennel or stable only for Persians does not make the game "diversified". The change in mercenaries is rather a design change and not just a balance change, and they are much more used now.

  10. Basiliskos got another opportunity, we been making some progress because he didn't left immediately when starting losing (maybe because I called on him beforehand for leaving previous games when I joined his game in lobby) so then he bragged he never leaves games. Along the game he shown no fair attitude blaming all the time for choosing ibers until left. commands.txtmetadata.jsonas ending: @user1

  14. 1. If you have the choice and it's the difference between winning and loosing, I guess it's worth it. And if you're already losing the eco battle I guess it's tough luck. 2. If that's the case you're team mate should cover the cav aspect. Yeah, I think ppl should be free to voice their wishes. Especially since MP with older versions has its downsides.

  15. Requiring stables is more expensive than having a barrack that can produce inf+cav. Stables make rushing less viable for p1 because it means a failed rush strategy can't be easily converted to boom strat. I don't think this is good thing. After p1, I don't think stables changes the game a ton. But I also don't see any real benefits of having stables and I haven't seen anyone put forth an argument on why they should exist where the reason why didn't already exist (i.e., scouting is always beneficial--I always want to know if my enemy made early military buildings). I'm personally not a fan because of this p1 issue and how it took away civ differentiation, but I am not losing a ton of sleep over it. Lastly, it isn't helpful to tell people to buzz off when they describe how they want the game to become. Sometimes people want the game to revert to have features it used to have. If you don't like that then you never should've downloaded a25 and should go back to a24 (see how unhelpful that line of reasoning is?).

  16. One thing I don't really understand: if you see that ppl with cav win while those without lose, why do you resist to build cav yourself? Admittedly, I'm a bit of a 'speed freak', so I had to get myself to build more pedestrians & take them along...

  17. Just because you have an option to play with cavalry doesn't mean that it should always be viable. RTS is simply about adapting to the game you are in at that moment with the tools you've been given. Which is why pizza maps (or other weird settings) can be fun, because it shows when someone relies on a strict strategy across the game.

  19. Allowing cavalry to come out of infantry barracks only helps the cav spammer and makes you die more quickly, because the spammer only needs to get 8 barracks and suddenly he can spam either inf or cav en mass. But if cavalry stables exist then they have to build inf barracks and cav stables, which cost more time and resources. About cav being OP, that is true. If you only have spearman then I can kill all of your 100 spearman without loss using only 10 ranged cavalry unit. One can simply retreat and free-draw an arc around your spearmen then fire, repeating this process whenever your spearmen gets close.

  24. DE features nudity IIRC. Originally Mauryas' maiden were topless. When it comes to mods it's the responsibility of the authors to decide their audience. I would go for a safe approach though, with straps of some kind.
