I've tried that before but i had problems with it (at least with my kind of materials) and always end with over reflective stuff wich ends in the full sky reflected in the helmet (a full white zone with kinda like 200% overbrightness). handling the bronze, iron, silver, gold etc was one of the hardest problem i've faced when baking my first helmets because of that. TBH reaching this point with the ones so far i've made its a tremendous advance. Btw, when i ended with the neiderbieber i've started a cheiroballista (i wanted to update the scorpio because its pretty outdated compared to others siege engines but i don't find a whole perspective proper scorpio references), i wanted to test my new wood material in something good, (The chariot was ok but i have to find a proper UV and design for the wheel) Cycles preview:2 points

And the mesh looks good but on the asian elephant. @Stan` That reduce the amount of work.1 point

@Alexandermb Here are the (hopefully) fixed armatures. I made three blend files are there are three different elephants though the armature is roughly the same. Keep in mind you will need to reexport all the elephant animations just to be safe, and because else that would trigger the same issue than with the unit mesh. Asian elephants should have 63 vertex groups, and the africans should have 61. elephants.7z1 point

Easier then. Back to the cataphract, i have everything ready in blender. only need to bake two pieces and make the chamfron only. Plus bake the green/purple variant i bake for make the player color. But im my opinion, we should split companion cavalry from cataphract. Gameplay wise one could be expensier in metal and have more defense (same hp) while being more slow. in another gameplay-like mod: Special Resource: One could be expensier in special resource (coin, silver + metal) Moral: In a mod wich implements moral on the battlefield, companion could inspire morale while cataphract doesn't but sustract morale from the enemy. Upgrade: Make the cataphract as an upgrade for the cavalry spearman (For having both) or champion cavalry. We already have this kind of upgrade for others factions. Selection: Make the seleucids select wich champion they want to develop if they want chariots + companion or if they want silver shields pikeman + cataphracts.1 point

I like it, there's a classic mode toggle if you're feeling nostalgic and it loads original AoE sprites and mechanics if you don't like the gritty definitive look win/win i say, Glad it happened before my old copy of AoE stopped working lol1 point

The purpose of the single legal waiver is to leave no doubt about individual files. (If you would have to state it for each one, it's easy to forget, and if a licence isn't explicitly clear, a file can't be used.) You can use a similar but different wording if you like, the crucial part is the CC-BY-SA-3.0 bit. And no, it does not apply to works you don't own the copyright of; you can safely show (or quote) images from others.1 point

I think the key is don’t be shy and just keep talking as you said and gain more confidence. I found 1 0ad saved game which I already posted in the game replays and I will use it. When I replayed it back it feels so good listening to the music while watching. I think lots of 0ad players especially the pros can be of big help by doing YouTube of their very interesting game.1 point

@Servo Here are some comparisons: You should compare your current narration video with my first one. I had no editors that time, and it took me several takes to get it the way I wanted it. And I still ended up being to shy to speak. What I use is simplescreenrecorder to record the video, and my phone for recording the audio. Make Audacity get rid of some noise. And finally use OpenShot to sync them together. It's a hassle, really. In the recording department, I don't have the patience setting up OBS. The fact that you have it means you have already the superior setup. Here are my tips based on experience: Keep recording, and keep talking. Experience is important. This is the best way I got that "shyness" away. Also, it helped set my mentality from "You're talking to a computer" to "You're talking to people on the internet." Watch your own videos, observe where you think you're lacking in and improve on it. This one's difficult on my part as I didn't like hearing my own voice. If I didn't want to watch my own video, who would? But at least you have yourself as your greatest critic. Have a Model Youtuber and Watch His/Her early Videos. I like resonance22channel's style. I wanted to be like him. But watching his newest videos wouldn't help me a lot. His first videos are still way better than mine, but I did see how far he's gotten because of them. The same case can be made for ZeroEmpires. Comments Section This one I can't help you much. But I hope you get some form of encouragement / critiques in the comments section. I don't know if it's true to the other Youtubers, but getting feedback from people is encouraging for me. So I hope you'll get some too.1 point

I think both hardcore players and mod makers, as you say, have very different goals set in minds. Hardcore players have spent considerable time mastering current state of the game, therefore the mod they wish to make is one of subtle fixes and mechanics. Extreme changes means their effort learning the game could potentially be invalidated. Even bugs are embraced if it could be taken advantages of. However modders as a whole seek to exploit 0 A.D engine in any way possible to reach its full potential. Sometimes it means crazy weird changes with utter disregard of market needs. So in a way we're all biased toward certain goals. So I think we have to be open to new ideas and try them all, while the game is still unfinished and the risk of extreme changes is not as big as if we try it later on Beta stage. Although I predict whatever changes are applied to 0 A.D, some people will claim that it destroy gameplay, simply because they are not used to it. Look at every discussion whenever an online/esport game releases new update. But after a while the protests died down as players, hardcore and casual alike, get used to it and perhaps enjoy it even more. TL;DR: Modders wonder if they could, hardcore players wonder if they would, we need to work together to figure out if it should.1 point

For all and any content (I attached to a post samples of my portfolio, in my first post here, that content does not apply, obviously, as was not for the project) that I would make for this project I declare that : I am the copyright holder of original works I post in the Wildfire Games 0 A.D. Art Development forum. I hereby release all original works I uploaded to this forum in the past, and those I will upload in the future, under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license.1 point

That makes sense. Actually... otherwise, the way I interpreted it wouldn't allow either to post references, which is a must in a project like this... So, disregard my doubt about it.1 point

You had mod something I think. One day I hope when I become proficient and for the love of the game I can also make my own 0ad YouTube video. Like this one, on DoM. Bear with me and tbh I’m not snorting something. A Filipino voice hahah.1 point

If one wants to read that sentence carefully it can be understood as just be related to work posted in the art development forum. And the icons can be understood as something other than work in this context (as they were not posted as work done for the project, but as references of what you are capable of doing). Either way, the text is mostly so we have some way to show that people are responsible for the things they post to abide by the license.1 point

Wow, a lot of good discussions here. Thanks @Philip the Swaggerless for starting this topic! Exactly my concern, @wowgetoffyourcellphone. I grew up with AoEII and StarCraft, so it's hard for me to imagine the possibility of CC to not handle resource dropping as well, especially at early game. But then again, Strongholds games do exactly that, although it does force you to site your granary at the beginning of the game. Even going so far back to Red Alert where you can only mine ore after building ore refinery. As one of 0 A.D. principles is balance between history and gameplay, the notion to change this for historical accuracy should be considered. So I think this is achievable via tweaking. Perhaps with changing dropsite to only fire arrows if garrisoned, or by giving free sentries. I think in current state of the game, resources are always close to CC anyway, so dropsites near it should be within CC arrow's range. Your 0abc mod is one of my inspiration by the way. At first I was confused but when I finally made sense of it, it is actually a great idea. Also, isn't AI already automatically search for any building with metal dropsite attribute to build near metal source? Although you should probably check queuePlanBuilding to ensure forges has no minimum range to resources.1 point

I wouldn't mind giving the players 4 free (Sentry) towers at the start, like in AOM. You can then upgrade them individually to Defense Towers in Town Phase as is now. (Delenda Est does this already with 4 free wooden towers that can be upgraded to stone later).1 point

I would like to propose making an playlist of how to create a mod in official youtube channel for 0 AD. I can talk about some reasons, facilities of having a playlist called how to mod 0 AD. 1. People will have a clear idea about the setup and coding process. 2. very good idea on mod structure. 3. 0 AD can have a lot of programmers. 4. many mods could be build. 5. programmers will get a very intense and practical knowledge on programming. 6.people might encourage to play/help 0AD more. 7.It can generate a small donation from both channel and people. Some Pre Answer 1. Videoes make more sense primarily than reading. 2.Videoes inspire more.1 point
