As the current system works, if a unit garrisons in a building, that structure regenerates loyalty and, if it is a defensive one, they add to the arrow count. Personally, I would prefer it if melee and ranged units offered distinct functions for garrisoning. Ranged units could add arrows, but not contribute much to the loyalty, and melee units would only provide a substantial boost to loyalty. I think that this approach would make defending and attacking buildings more nuanced since one kind of unit would be good as anti-personnel at the cost of keeping it vulnerable to capture if there would be a substantial enough force present. Melee units might make the building resistant to capture, but occasional sorties would be necessary to mount if the player wants the structure to stay up from direct attacks.3 points

I will proceed to commit these materials tomorrow if there are no more objections regarding this thread.3 points

Here is a tiny A23 mod with six Thracian units (actors, icons, templates; three ranks each), made with existing art assets: thracians.zip [EDIT]: As you can see the swordsmen use the Iberian falcata; they actually should have a sica, but I need a new weapon prop for that; see https://wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?/topic/26405-request-sica-and-falx/3 points

Edit: Hello all! I meant to reply to this thread with my repository a long time ago but... Here is my Thracian mod with the thracian units that are already in 0 ad and @Stan`'s thracian buildings from https://github.com/0ADMods/thracians https://github.com/lefty-studios/thracians2 points

I think that a list of the currently active hot-keys should be added to this thread as it would highlight the fact that there are in fact very few not used key combos available for any new hot key this apart from the how it would work with non QWERTY keyboard layouts. Enjoy the Choice1 point

Saw the git repo, most of the ones you would need to edit are chin gathering, and hoplite one because of the phalanx formation you made. The rest have 3yago date so probably unused.1 point

Meh I don't care. How often do I edit variant files? Almost never. How confused am I about the current animation structure? Not at all. Will massive changes for meager benefits annoy me? Yeah. Will I adapt? Yes.1 point

Those two animations weren't in the blendfile, may have been in another blend file or an unsaved version of the blendfile1 point

Nice you are saving a big part of art! If you need help for something don't hesitate to ask. What do you mean?1 point

Just go ahead with whatever you think is best, I trust you know what you're doing, you've far more experience with the art files than most.1 point

In the spirit of the following article http://www.cysion.be/aocbox/?p=188, I thought it would be nice to share some of the remarkable things we have learned from 0 AD about the past. To start off: In the ancient times, people (other than women) always wore full armour even when going about their daily activities, quickly making them disappear whenever they needed to grab tools. Soldiers often liked to make victory poses in the middle of battle. This resulted in a completely new outfit and temporary immortality. Unfortunately, posing never caught on as a mainstream tactic due to the presence of champions, who refused to pose because they thought they were already cool enough.1 point

otherwise capture technologies should be developed and basically avoid capturing a lot in the first phase, the first units should hardly be able to capture, unless it is a huge army. And certain civic buildings raise loyalty, like temples.1 point

I like the loyalty thing, heroes and champion units should have more loyalty.1 point

I remember there was a config file that macOS users had and shared among themselves back in the day. You might try reaching out to them, either here, in the lobby, or on IRC #0ad-dev. Same with AZERTY keyboards and probably others. I wouldn't be averse to including several default hotkey configurations for different systems (in fact, it was always my goal to have "hotkey sets", for different keyboard layouts and such which could ideally be switched via in-game menus).1 point

I have made a pull request at:https://github.com/0ADMods/thracians/pull/1 @wackyserious I think the owner of the repository has to push my pull request. I think this is what you meant? I am not that familiar with git/github...1 point

UPDATE: I have updated my mod with @Nescios actor files and his archers and spearman unit. (I need new icons for the new units.) https://github.com/lefty-studios/thracians1 point

I would suggest looking at how hotkey.selection.idleunit is implemented. First you need to add the hotkey definition to default.cfg. Then you would implement something like findIdleUnit in binaries/data/mods/public/gui/session/input.js. Here are a few tickets covering this feature: #1899, #1492. You might be able to reuse some or all of those patches.1 point

There are many hotkeys already in game, probably more than a normal person can remember. However, I'd like to have one more: pressing `Home` to cycle through your centres. Any suggestions on how to implement that?1 point

I like the idea! I haven't really dug into it, but the victory conditions itself can be found in: `simulation/data/settings/victory_conditions`, whilst the scripts they refer to are located in `maps/scripts`.1 point

Here is a Spanish Colonial Period Filipino structure plugin that I made for the game. Been playing this game for a week now. I am trying to blow-off some steam, since the new semester is about a month from now. I did create a new twitter account, do check, it is @wackyserious I will post contents from 0ad art development from there too.1 point

This doesn't really seem to be possible to lead anywhere positive, so I'm closing this topic.1 point

I found some totally legitimate pictures of 0AD's gamer girls: But seriously though, there's even some females working on the development of the game. There were at least a few working on translations... I'm pretty sure I got my butt kicked in MP by a girl at least once or twice. Then again I pretty much get my butt kicked by anyone above 1300 @Boudica are you actually female, or? And whatever happened to that Viking girl here on the forums? Also, we need some sexy Scythian Amazon warrior women ASAP Don't forget Cleopatra and Amanirenas1 point

That map you shared is not good with regards to Africa... I'll also remind you to read through this post first: Some further elaboration: There's not much there to reference, to be honest, in terms of "civilization" during the BC period... The Nok culture from Nigeria produced a ton of stunning terracottas, almost enough to derive a unit-roster. But architecture is a relative unknown, for now. Advances are being made, but all the looting really destroyed a lot of sites... The Bafour/Imraguen of the South Western Sahara seem to form a missing link between the Tichitt people and later ethnicities like the Mande people, but there's not really much material to research... I'm still waiting for the MILLION manuscripts of Timbuktu to be translated and analyzed/interpreted. They will surely shed some more light on the ancient history of West-Africa. But that will probably take another generation or so. Iron Age cultures like the Nok were already spreading across West Africa and even the Northern part of Central Africa since the early 1st Millennium BC (perhaps even earlier), but we just barely know anything about them yet. The oldest Iron Age sites in Southern part of Central Africa date to the 4th century AD... Around the equator and south of it, Africa was still populated by ancient Paleolithic African Stone Age hunter gatherers, related to Bushmen of the Kalahari/KhoiSan (South) and Pygmies like the Baka (Cameroon, Congo, Gabon) or the Mbuti from the Ituri rainforest (Congo). From the 1st millennium BC onwards these Palaeolithic Africans were slowly, but entirely replaced, absorbed or exterminated by the Iron working, sedentary agricultural societies in most of Central and Southern Africa, a process referred to as the Bantu expansion. I hate the term Bantu, because it's one of those stupid terms that lumps everything together, referring to everything and nothing at the same time. It has also become a derogatory term, even used by "non-Bantu" Africans... There were also Nilo-Saharan and "Cushitic" (not related to Kushites) speaking pastoralists, in East Africa, but nothing of real interest (just cattle herders). This stuff is only interesting for mini-civs/map-creeps. But their geographical isolation makes it not a priority. Basically, during 0AD's timeframe: Very... @stanislas69, is it possible to split this thread, and move everything from Lion's post onwards to "===[TASK]=== African minifaction buildings", for now?1 point
