  1. You should not put the mods in 0ad/mods/mod/ but in 0ad/mods/

  2. Well, one could argue it's about "customization" of the gameplay, but now you're putting other players at a possible hidden disadvantage because they are using the default 5-batch, unawares of the customizable batch option. IMHO, UI things should be a level playing field.

  3. Mga Kabayan! (Fellow countrymen!) I didn't know that you are Pinoy @sphyrth! Sorry guys, it's just a Pinoy thing (Filipino pride and all). @wackyserious - those are nice textures. It's interesting to see pre-colonial Philippines represented in 0 AD.

  4. Hindi po ako sigurado. (I'm not really sure) But my thesis will make use of this game, I will be creating a Philippine pre-colonial period mod which is very relevant to this topic. I will soon open a thread in the Modding section for it. There are still a lot of things that needs to be done. Specially the buildings (Luckily, most of the buildings will just be nipa huts)

  7. Hi alekusu! First of all: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/Alpha21 http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/Alpha22 Don't really think there is one that is best. Mauryans, britons, gauls, spartans, macedonians, athenians, carthaginians, romans, iberians, persians seem to be the best ones, i.e. all but ptol and seleucids X) - What is the worst civ in Alpha 21 and why? Not particularly happy about ptolemians not having infantry champions, but ptolemians much better this alpha since elephants got buffed much and they get infantry champions in alpha 22. Wouldn't really call any of the civs bad. Seleucids are slightly slower to train champions and you have to decide between chariots and swordmen champions. Phase 2 faster than in alpha 20 now, maybe minute 8? Depends on how much population you want. Phase 3 should be done reached at minute 12-14 maybe. Slingers, skiritai, elephants if done early, spear infantry champions, roman cavalry champions is what I recall. slingers, skirtai, spear infantry were nerfed in alpha 22. Iberian fireships, naked fanatics strong too. Not that much. One measurable change is that arrows aren't as accurate anymore at range. If they don't it's their own fault. Corrals are (still) really good to replace females on fields later on, since one cavalry gathers food much faster than a female (5x without upgrades, 2x if females have all upgrades IIRC), and the cavalry can be used to fight too. Fish still 2x faster than women on fields and you can train fishing ships from a dock simultaenously with women at a civic center, so if you have fish close, there is a significant advantage. Much stronger, catapults too. But you need to guard them, back them up with citizen soldiers too More useful after they were buffed by causative, but depends on the situation. Temples are still more useful, but you can't build them in enemy territory. That's a major change in Alpha 21. It's economically not useful anymore to destroy buildings with infantry and cavalry, since they have much more armor. Also champions more expensive and much slower to train. Still quickly, the old "300 pop in 16min" thing should still work. Probably borg- Delenda Est is nice, but you might want to ask niektb for a greater list

  11. Limiting the number of units one can produce of a specific type is a bad choice. Units should have particular roles that make them able to be defeated by specific tactics or unit compositions. For instance, horse archers could be good at hit-and-run, but when fighting the more cost-effective foot missile soldiers, though they may win in some brief engagements, the cost would strain an opponents eco. Also, foot archers could have good range and decent damage, yet due to line of sight restrictions, they could not fight to their full potential without other units doing recon.

  13. And I thought that was the point... especially for those factions like the Iberians who get 3 pop per house, and the Celtic factions who get some pop bonuses per structure.

  14. I imagine there will be this odd little meta game to decide the "optimal" batch training size and once someone finds it, everyone will be forced to use it to remain competitive. I find it strange that the option was added.

  15. I love the straight edge daos! I've definitely seen those photographed and they fit the time period. In fact, they're used very often throughout Chinese history. e: I don't know about the length though. If experts think that's accurate (and being iron it most likely is). I've seen photos of bronze daos more often. e2: quick Google showed that iron jians swords were developed even before Han!

  16. Hi @andy5995, I have obtained a confirmation. Please check the the e-mail address associated with your PayPal account.

  17. They do, and at least for those donations we do get an email telling us that the person in question has donated. And I think that the donation process there includes a thank you message (and the email contains that message at the very least), so I don't think we've had reason to consider doing anything different. If the PayPal donation doesn't we might have to do something about that.

  18. Thanks for your donation, @andy5995! My name is Aviv and I am a member of the 0 A.D. Treasury Committee. I agree that a confirmation e-mail is in order. I believe that people who donate using Click&Pledge get one automatically, but donors who use PayPal might not. Unfortunately, we cannot see donations or directly issue confirmations. Software in the Public Interest, Inc. (SPI) handles the donations for us and only they have direct access to our financial data. If you can kindly provide the sum donated, the e-mail address associated with your PayPal account, and date of donation, I will gladly ask SPI to confirm that the sum was donated. You can do this via private message if you prefer. I apologize in advance as it could take quite some time to get any response from SPI. Last but not least, I have made a new thread in the announcements forum with a copy of the financial report. I have also edited the link in the news post so that it now points there. I thought the treasury committee forum was open to the public. Thanks for letting me know otherwise.

  19. Quick meta-input: It's largely true that we haven't changed gameplay significantly since forever. The main cause of this is that not a great deal of people on the team actually play the game, and the few that do seem largely content with the breakneck speed and the current mechanics. There is a metagame, and it's a relatively simple one since it's rather poorly balanced on the whole. Furthermore, many devs feel that changing something now is useless since we're still in Alpha. Now this is something on which I could complain at length, but it's there. Personally, I believe we're a little too hung up on Age of Empires - and my personal preference would be for a complete switch to a production/consumption system over the "one shot" AoE like system of gathering resources. Each unit would consume some resources, each unit would produce some, and houses would give you manpower instead of raising the pop cap (which would then be soft-capped). On the whole it'd make eco more interesting. I also generally agree that the game goes way too fast in the early stages and that units are inherently too cheap, but that is definitely a matter of personal preference - and many would argue that AoE 2 goes way too slow. We've also had weird effects at play, such as the big unit speed and very large vision ranges, making our maps feel extremely small. Relatedly, our counters are crap - that's because we have far too few units per civilisations, and made some braindead decisions such as the pierce/hack attack we chose. But to go back to my first point: even perfect mods won't be played much, since the team doesn't play much, and that means that imperfect mods (such as my trade changes) have basically 0 chance of convincing anybody.
