Very nice, but why not just play on A25b like we all did?

Because:

  • I am usually not the person to do "like we all did".
  • I only play SVN.
  • There were concerns about SVN being slower due to the new acceleration feature.
  • I did not want to end up in a list I don't belong in.

:)

This is a new record! It would be nice if you can upload your replay to show us how you achieve it. I will put you and your time in the leaderboard if you post your replay. Would you consider posting your replay with commentary on your Youtube channel? It is remarkable to achieve 100 pop in 7:19.

Yes ;-))) i am trying to optimize every single step. The 7:19 was my first at all try :-) so i know there is room upwards. I will test some new Ideas this weekend. I can say that there are a full lot of small things in timing to do. I will upload the replay but actually I first want to challenge some top player in 1v1 cause i know that theese small things in the start might change a lot in pro 1v1 start - it might even be 10+ seconds the first minutes can be improved. not milliseconds ;-)

Hello,

I tried this  several times and my best time was 7:20.

EDIT:  I didn't read the instructions carefully enough so I thought I could not take extra hunt.  My time was with hunting only the beginning chickens.

Would you be interested in designing efficient build orders to take the following challenge?

(1) Use Spartans on a small mainland map (subalphine biome) with low starting resources.

(2) Don't take any extra berry beside the starting berry (but you can take extra hunt).

(3) Don't make more than 50 women.

With the above setting and requirements, please try your best to reach 100 pop in the fastest time. The 100 units need to be on the map (units in the queue don't count). You may make the pop exactly 100; once the 100th unit comes out, you may stop and record the time. Please post your time and your replays here.

I would like to suggest a more practical version of this challenge with a more meaningful goal that actually helps you to improve you eco performance:

The player who completes all of these tasks in the shortest time wins, no matter what build order you use:

1. Have 150 soldier units: can be infantry, cavalry, champions or merc. The other 50 can be women or siege.

2. Research all military upgrades to at least tier 2. Eco upgrade is not taken into account for this contest, but you ought to have some.

3. Get a hero and at least 1 piece of siege weapon or elephant trained.

4. City phase (ofc) and 200pop.

Additional rules:

  • Use standard TG settings: 300 starting res, 200 pop, Mainland. No regicide or team bonus or nomad!
  • No taking extra berries or hunting anything other than chicken. Delete your cav when it finishes the chickens.
  • You can make as many women as you want in early game but you have to delete them to make space for your soldiers and siege.
  • Some civs will be faster than others for sure (e.g. Ptols and Athen), so this contest is not to prove that player A is better than player B; it is a place to share good build orders for every civ. Just pick your own favourite civs to boom with. I will only compare 2 players using the same civ or economically similar civs.
  • No requirement on what buildings you build.
  • Don't get rushed while doing it :D
  • I will make your final armies fight each other in Atlas map editor and post recordings.

Woo, a new record ; )

7:01, almost 7:00

By the way the rules mean "dont make more women than they are 50"  instead of "dont make more than 50 women so the maximum number is 54", right? Nobody ever exploited it.

7:01 is a very fast time. Incredible. Congratulation!

If you further optimize it, you may be able to achieve < 7:00. That would set a new standard for 0AD boom.

Would you like to share some key points how to achieve such a fast time?

When I made the rule of woman count, I meant that the maximum woman population is 50. I have revised the wording to make this rule clear.

No. It's better to keep it secret ; )

I've been checking my local games for the players that reached a pop of 200 as fastest. The total number of players evaluated (incl. multiples) is 3435 and of that only 2150 reached 200 pop in the whole game so got further processed. These include weird settings like medium resources, maps with treasures, and proGUI users. But the top happen to be mainland on low resources. The only check is that cheats are turned off. The metadata.json only stores data every 30 s.  These were selected from natural games. To make it in this list the player wants to boom himself and not be attacked.

In the bar diagram one sees the civs of these top 68 players. To make it in the data you needed to have 200 pop in under 13 min.. Pers is occurring the most. I see a reason in this that pers is strongest in the late game, so the player himself it more incentivized to boom. Kush did not make it in this list. I play/spec games with random civs for 8 players regularly.

The 3 fastest were Decger (two times) and Havran that made 200 pop until 11:30 (so somewhere between 11:00 and 11:30). Of the top 3 one was with a old community mod, so I cant replay it. One had 3 berry patches (Havrans). And one where Decger played rome with only one berry patch between his mines and only some extra sheep with the normal a26 version. This game seems like a particular good example for a good boom. In my top 68 games only 2 players had rome. Note that it does not mean that this is the best way to play the game in general at all. But a player occasional gets to play the pocket in a game where sometimes it makes the most sense to boom. So being able to boom is at least one quality a good player should have and display some times.

Regarding this challenge 100 pop is reached in this game about min 7:00, but for the units on the map: I'm not going to count it manual in the replay at 0.1x speed and Decger made 63 woman at that time. If you would like to add it to this challenge subtracting the extra ~13 woman, go ahead.

Decger is built different. The curious thing with persians is that they don't have strong eco bonuses for booming. Cheaper production buildings is great but they still cost stone, and after spending the first 300 you don't save enough to cleanly spend extra stone on another production building or a tech. All persians eco buffs usually after they already reach 200 pop (more prod buildings more savings, also res trickle from ice houses, hero building). The reason I think they are so fast in this data is less so because they are faster at booming (I would say gauls, brits and even rome are faster), but because players are very incentivized to boom with this civ.
